I HAVE LEARNED THAT THE REAL SOLUTION IS WITH USING EVAPORATIVE AIR COOLERS
ULTRASONICS ARE NOT HEALTHY AND USELESS IN LARGER SPACES
I live in a dry and warm climate. The humidity is very low here. So I've tried and tested different ways of adding humidity into the air. One of the first things that people do is to by Ultrasonic Cool Mist Humidifiers (they are cheap for a reason). I tried 9 of those before I fully realized that what the Internet articles say about avoiding them is true. Do not buy! They are not healthy at all and they spread bacteria.
SMALL EVAPORATIVE HUMIDIFIERS ARE HEALTHIER BUT ALSO USELESS IN LARGER SPACES
Next I tried evaporative humidifiers. They are much healthier if they don't use a wet filter or wick that needs to be constantly changed or otherwise become disgusting. Also keep in mind these small humidifiers only work in a small room (150 sf) with doors and windows closed. Otherwise they will not work. This is why evaporative humidifiers made for large spaces cost many hundreds of dollars and use multiple fans and are very large and noisy. That option didn't work for me either.
    EVAPORATIVE AIR COOLERS
Next I tried and tested Evaporative Air Coolers. Think of them as a much quieter, healthy version of adding humidity into large spaces even with windows open. So, they are great for that. They are also good as a fan. But they do not cool down a room like a A/C. No product can cool down a room like A/C. That option doesn't exist. If you need an A/C, get one, nothing else can cool like that.
The best way to add humidity into a large room with windows open and not being forced to buy very large and expensive multi fan units is to buy a smaller Evaporative Air Cooler. They do the same job, at cheaper price and much lower noise. They also fan the room. But don't expect A/C performance, nothing works even close to an A/C.
The Key Features a Great Evaporative Air Cooler Must Have
    1) Remote Control.
    2) Fully removable and detachable water tank. (Otherwise the tank will become filthy and unhealthy. The tank must be removable so it can be properly washed and cleaned.)
    3) A reusable and washable wet filter. (Otherwise too expensive to keep buying filters.)
    4) Must be very quiet at the lowest fan setting. (Otherwise useless in bedrooms.)
    5) Large water tank. Must be 1.5 gallon or larger.
    6) Auto shut off of the water pump when out of water.
    7) Dimmable display so it doesn't get too bright in bedrooms.
    8) A good warranty and support.

I recently purchased an air quality monitor while running my ultrasonic humidifier since I have a sore throat at the moment I noticed a spike in the PM2.5 detector and the quality became progressively worse and worse to the point of reaching 200+ PM2.5 mg/m^3 needless to say I ordered the exact evaporative humidifier shown in this video a couple of minutes ago... I'll expect to see a increase in air quality for my two little babies to breathe in clean fresh air.

Thank you for that. Small Evaporative Humidifiers will work in small rooms with windows closed, such as a bedroom and they'll increase the humidity. However, these will not work in larger rooms with windows open. In that situation you'd need an Evaporative Air Cooler. In case one would need to add humidity to larger rooms with windows open a fan needs be working to help spread the humidity. That's how an Evaporative Air Cooler becomes useful.

That noise test was essentially useless. Next time, use a noise meter app to get an actual dB reading. They're not that accurate, but are sufficient for a comparison. Also, do the measurement with each device running separately to avoid picking up the other machine's noise.
Also - and most importantly - you are vastly overstating the "dangers" of ultrasonic humidifiers vs evaporative. Ultrasonic do aerosolize more of the particulates contained in the water you put in, but this effect can be greatly reduced by using distilled water. There is also no evidence that the minerals emitted by ultrasonic humidifiers are actually harmful. The type and amount of extra particulate matter is usually no different than they are in a kitchen while cooking.
On top of that, it's simply false to claim that ultrasonics spread bacteria while evaporatives do not. Evaporative humidifiers spread just as much, if not more bacteria than the ultrasonic ones by creating a warm environment for bacteria to multiply in the tank. This can be alleviated with a rigorous cleaning regimen for both humidifier types.

Hi, I have used both and use an Evaporative Air Cooler (it's an evaporative humidifier with a fan) on daily basis. I can tell from experience that the evaporative methods do not harm. I think the problem with ultrasonic is the method that is used to send the vapors into the air. That’s the key issue. That ultrasonics create white dust (sediments). Furthermore, ultrasonics change the color of gas burners from blue to red, due to sediments. Evaporatives do not do any of that harmful things. I think the exception could be an old school evaporative with a very dirty wick. The one in this video does not use a wick.

What are you using for winter humidity? In the video, many hazards of ultrasonic humidifiers have been included but have you tested for yourself to see if the hazards also apply to the ultrasonic humidifier used in the video. Why aren’t there benefits of using ultrasonic humidifiers and hazards of evaporative humidifiers in the video since it’s deciding which is better. I am just trying to better understand your perspective because after watching the video, it could seem that all ultrasonic humidifiers should be avoided.
From what I’ve seen from numerous other reviews, ultrasonic humidifiers have improved people’s life. Some of them testify that they have been using ultrasonic humidifiers for years and that it has been a better choice for them because of maintenance, health, etc.

    • @premiumpowermedia
      @premiumpowermedia  2 роки тому

Hello, There are no benefits to ultrasonic humidifiers. Naturally regardless of how you add humidity into a dry room you’ll get some benefit. Even if it’s going to be harmful in the long run. People still smoke cigarettes today and they believe it makes their lives better, no matter the arguments against smoking. Also, almost 50% are now obese. You can’t go by general mindset.

We have another video in this channel where I show 5 ultrasonics tested in 1 video ua-cam.com/video/vQl9uNTTHsk/v-deo.html so I obviously gave them a fair share. I also mention that I tried overall 11 different humidifying devices.
IMO, if the room is small and the doors are closed a small evaporative humidifier is the best option, it also acts as a air washer or cleaner. If the room is large and or windows or doors are open, none of these will make any difference in the humidity setting of the room. For that you need to use a Evaporative Air Cooler which will add humidity rather quickly to a large room.

@@Adeline9418 The cartridges are really not sufficient for most tap water. Further, tap water contains a ton of other impurities. If the unit being used is an evaporative humidifier or a boiling water humidifier, this is mainly a moot point (except for spores, which is more of an issue if the unit is not properly cleaned). If the unit is an ultrasonic (or less common impeller-type) humidifier, it is an entirely different story, as these units will aerosolize whatever is in water and this is why you should use only distilled water in an ultrasonic humidifier and it should be kept clean enough to literally eat off of. Ultrasonic and impeller humidifiers can rapidly degrade indoor air quality if tap water, spring water, or purified water is used. With respect to the health harm that comes directly from the mineral rock, this is still a bit up for debate, but do you really want to be breathing in mineral rock? That seems like a bad a life choice. However, with respect to some of the bacteria, viruses, heavy metals, and toxins that can be in tap water, these are things you clearly do not want to breath in, and you will if you have an ultrasonic humidifier and use tap water in it. The bottom line is that ultrasonic and impeller humidifiers are safe when kept clean and distilled water is used. If they are not kept clean or if tap water is used, they can contribute to high levels of indoor air pollution, dispersing both harmful microorganisms as well as mineral rocks and any other contaminates present in the water, and this is something the makers of these products are not forthcoming about.

Nah, it's not about the Xiaomi in specific, there are other evaporative humidifers.
Where I live, we have sediment rich water and it's somewhat common knowledge that ultrasonic humidifers cause alot of white dust, especially during winter months where our indoors become very very dry (hence more need for humidify). Ultrasonic ones also pollute the air with small particles from the water (read with an air particle meter) and can cause issues with breathing, especially on allergics and asthmatics or whose immune systems are more responsive to pollutants.
Essentially ultrasonic humidifers are good options only for places with very clean water (no hardwater or other stuff like metals etc). Why they're more common in the market than evaporative ones is a guess but might be because "ultrasonic" sounds fancy but idk.
Note: sediment rich water (like hardwater) can cause shortcircuits in hardware (like computers) too if there's enough accumulation (same goes for smoking indoors but I digress) because of the metals in the water. Here's a study about ultrasonic humidifers emitting metals into the air: www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/abs/pii/S0043135419306736
