Dog nightmares is genuinely terrifying, it makes it worse that the hole in the wall was actually based off of piggy sodas old house as he said on another analysis on the series
Bad take: the dog creature is a place holder for trauma and an abuser/event she’s trying to forget about but it keeps coming to haunt her Good take: there is a dog man living in her walls and used to star in commercials
angelic take: this series is actually what scrappy doo has been up to since being forgotten by the Scooby-Doo franchise. he just needed a place to crash for a while till they will totally bring him back, promise
the scene of the hole next to the stairs has unnerved and unsettled me more than anything i’ve ever seen, i’m pretty sure, and i don’t even have negative memories of these dogs. It’s just so well done
I like to think that the dog man is a physical representation of her trauma, not in a symbolic sense, but in a legitimate narrative sense. The dog man is a real thing in canon, a manifestation of her childhood trauma that she's forgotten but never really gotten over. It comforted her in the past, but now as an adult, it feels sinister. Not just because it's a man with a freaky dog head, but because if she forgot all of this, being friends with this thing, what else could she be forgetting? It's a fear of losing your past, losing your memories, that really hits home for me.
My first traumatic dream tormentor took the form of a dog, just like this, a Weimaraner, with a human’s body, chasing me through the house floating above the ground. Since then, all of the Historical texts on dog headed men, the commercials of dog heads on human bodies, it just ruins me.
I remember watching the actual dog show that this base off. I was 4 in 2014 when my dad putted a dvd of it and I was scared. You just brought me back to that old memory.
I like to imagine this dog creature was actually the good guy of the story. It was the man in the picture, likely Emily's father, who "is still there". He was abusing Emily in some way and the dog creature was futily trying to help her, but due to his lack of communication skills, he appeared terryfing to her. Later in the story, he finds Emily's dog and tries to contact her, but he cannot speak, so he just hangs on the line trying to do anything. He later resolves to tearing down posters to make Emily understand she does not need them anymore - he has her dog. But Emily, completely unable to perceive canine way of thinking, assumed it's a threat. Later, we see Emily in a black void, paiting her dog. It was creatures last, desperate attempt to shield her from something or from the world as a whole. Now, alone with her paintings, she may not be free, but she's safe and even happy in some bizzare, otherwordly way. Idk, it is some random theory, it may be wrong, but it's cool imo
The dog man being the good guy is actually a very good concept, if he’s protecting her from her abusive parents, Either he is a guardian angel, or a supernatural entity that is friendly. The Dog man hasn’t shown any signs of aggression yet, but people are already saying that he is plotting against her. He’s even in the Villains Wiki.
@@JakubWojciechowski933 yes it would be interesting for it to end up ur theory being correct so I headcanon it and plus i personally love analog horror monster evilish but good intentions story
It’s funny how simplistic the design of the dogman really is, yet its simplicity is what makes it way creepier than most horror movie monsters. Even when compared to the smile dog creepypasta, the thing that kind of ruins the experience is that one of the images (specifically the one that’s a lot more red and exposes the teeth a bit more) winded up being too oversaturated/overdesigned that it comes off more goofy than scary. The design of the “best friend” is more quaint in comparison (with the only thing added was the eyes being blacked out) and manages to be way creepier as a result.
My theory is that the dog man is a character from a movie or movies that she watched when she was a little kid. Then, something bad happened with the adults from the picture (maybe her family), so she covered the trauma with the dog character and her head mixed all up
Woah im so happy you checked Dog Nightmares! I do love this series dearly, theres such a calculated level of horror and artistry on this series, I can't help but love it. It deserves all the love it can get
I seriously love your deep-dive videos on analog horror and just horror medium in general, I personally don’t care for reaction videos. But that aside I love these types of videos, whole reason I subscribed was your deep-dive into the V/H/S films, can’t wait to see what’s in store for this Channel this year, happy new year to you!
Now… what if the dog man, was her father..? Like, he was the source of her traumas and the dog people commercials remind her of him, which is why we see him with a dog head? What if her dad had something to do with Bailey’s disappearance? This would explain why we never seem… he’s absent from the picture because he did something to Bailey. However, he’s still out there… maybe he stalks her and her family, maybe hiding/living in that hole at one point. I feel like the dog man we see is a representation of the father, but takes the appearance of one of the dog people due to trauma, maybe as a way for young Emily to grasp what happened, or the dog people and her father were somehow tied to some past traumas. Or maybe, the dog people commercials remind her of Bailey, which is why it’s such a precious memory, and maybe finding Bailey will help prove something to her… I think the scenes we see in the commercials might be a reference of what possibly happened to Bailey… like a fishing trip. I dunno, I could be wrong, just a thought I guess…
I think k you may be right about the father thing. I mean dogs are generally seen as a source of unconditional love and safety, but with the human body it almost seems like an uncanny perversion. You still recognize the dog, but there's something off about it that's very unnerving. Maybe something like that can be said about the father. Something that's supposed to be a source of love and warmth but is doing something that contradicts that.

Hi 4 Plus (if your seeing this), keep up the good work! I am bingeing your videos and just finished your 3 Monument Mythos videos and its very well done. I will keep on watching them and I am suprised you dont have 100k from how good your content is!
This reminds me of some super weird things we had when we were very young that had pictures of dog/humans in fancy suits and shit. There was a super creepy basset hound one in a black suit with a top hat, my brother also was freaked out by it but used it to fuck with me and said it was 'The Lone Dog' he told me that bastard would be outside my window at night just sitting super high up in a tree or would be in my closet. Not cool bro
After finishing the video and thinking about it for a while i really like your read of the dog as potentially an amalgamation of childhood trauma. The idea of a monster within your own home is pretty indicative of it imo, and I connected with that a lot which really helped to make the horror more effective. Whether its a real monster or not it works. Also proud to say i actually was able to sit through the hole in rhe wall section lmaoo
One time i actually had sleep paralysis of smile dog after having a dream about it ( i absolutely hated the smile dog picture because it was like the only creepypasta that actually scared me mainly because of the picture ) dog nightmare is prob gonna appear next in my sleep paralysis lol
Honestly i was more creeped out when i thought this was literally "stuff dogs see in nightmares" because the setup is perfect. A dog can't tell you what's bothering it. It doesn't know there's nothing semi-real or supernatural about dreams, and it's essentially a mute child at the mercy of its own imagination. And lord only knows what a dog's social instincts recognize as uncanny and creepy. Or how a dog would process seeing a human death or human violence or another pet dead, not even knowing what death is.
I remember those scary ass dog commercials and when Vine was big there was this girl who made similar videos of her dog. Her name is Marlo Meekins... so so creepy! Idk if maybe you saw those and are overlapping memories with that!
good idea to watch this with there being a BIG HOLE IN THE WALL in the stairs leading to the basement (my bedroom is down there)... atleast i haven't heard noises coming from it- wait...
But also i dont think he could be imagined cause i think he did rip them down but wouldn’t someone see this dog creature or he wasnt a dog at all and it was just a man and he killed a dog and put its face on and found his way in her walls
@4Plus419 Not sure if anyone has brought it up, but those dog head clips that look like adverts or shorts are all from Sesame Street in the 80s/90s. I'm almost 100% certain, especially with the Dog Nightmares series referencing Wegman how did that sort of Dog Head photography and video work in that time period.
I think the guys from Red Letter Media watched one of the original dog videos that some sad person made in the 90's. I wonder how dognightmares was able to use the footage
I just watched dog show and you know there was that picture the main character held up but it was too dark to see? I just edited a screen recording of it to try and see what is said anymore I’m pretty sure it says he’s still out there

The chances of a deadbeat retired dog man actor living in your walls are low, but never zero.
bespoke take: its both a real dog man that lives in her walls that is thematically tied to her traumas
