If you have Battle network collection (or just wanna scour the internet) you can look up the concept art for the first few games. There's a lot of Legends looking characters in there, so it's most likely the same artist I'm guessing.
I haven't finished watching this one yet but I just wanted to thank you and your videos for reigniting my decades-old love for the Megaman series in general. The Legends series seems to have a lot of potential and could do with a remake rather than a port. Stranger things have happened!
Regarding the Servbots eating, everyone in the Legends series is actually a robot, but some are more humanoid than others. Apparently when Volnutt gets out his special weapons, he just kind of unplugs part of his arm or something.
This game just has a special kind of charm that you don't really see modern companies put out. I kinda miss the olden days when games were cheaper to make so you just had ton's of people's passion projects. It kinda sucks that you only really get that from indies now.

It's wild that this looks like it would conceptually be one of my favorite Gen 5 games. Especially the Servbots, the way you interact with them is like halfway between Pikmen and the Chao Garden and I LOVE that! Too bad the game looks rough as heck, I really wish the Legends series had more time to find its footing.
It was a cute game, but I would have preferred a more traditional legends gameplay. I think this game was the reason why Tron was the face for the series, with her showing up in fighting games and such, but like you said, weird how her and the serve bots became these mascots despite the games not selling as much compared to other games.
I'm guessing the reason why early PS1 boxart is bad in general, was because of Sony's obsession with 3D graphics. They wouldn't shut up about it in their marketing, at least outside of Japan. It wouldn't surprise me if they mandated that 3D PS1 games had to have 3D graphics on the cover.
It wasn't just Sony, but just the general gamer mindset at the time. There was the whole case of Castlevania SotN being dumped on because it wasn't 3d like Castlevania 64.

I remember playing this game to death as a kid, I adored the different mix of genres they put in the same, some of the best music in gaming too. I always looked back on this game as a classic, hearing that it didn't sell well makes me understand why a physical copy is nearly a thousand bucks now... Still a great game :)

I feel like Legends just kinda chugged on for a bit just because the employees at Capcom really love this cast of characters specifically. Also why the cast keeps showing up in Capcom's crossover titles when it would make more sense to put the battle network guys in said crossovers.

I'll forever love this game specifically because it WASN'T just more Legends. It feels like there's just enough variety here to give it depth and nothing overstays its welcome. You don't have to complete everything, making it really replayable. In fact, it's a bit more in line with traditional Mega Man in that sense, pick a stage and go. It really was a vibe that I spent hours with, and I miss games that dared to be this character focused and succeed with the charm. I struggle to think of any recent game I've played that engrossed me the way this one did.
Regarding the franchise low sales numbers compared to other Capcom triple AAA games of the time. Thats just how plataforming games in general perfomed (except for huge mascots like mario and sonic) this genre rarely took the world over after the ps1 generation and never sold as well as the triple A games, and thats probably why the franchise slowed down considerable after that. But, the biggest advantage that plataforming games have over other genres is the fact that they cost much less than the other genres to make, they require much smaller budgets, a much smaller team to make them, they are shorter games, usually not story heavy saving a lot in animation and voice acting, and appealing to a very large demographic, meaning that 9/10 they would pay themselves easily or hit the jackpot and bring huge returns. But since now companies are only interest in chasing huge numbers, they arent interested on making these smaller games with medium returns
Vaguely remember my brother playing this on a PlayStation TV Box or whatever they're called. Things that didn't sell well stacked on top of things that didn't sell well as far as I'm aware

To answer the question from up top, I think the idea is that it's basically a "demo disc" game to help set up Legends 2, or at least get players used to the controls and new physics. Sort of like how Sonic Adventure 1 was basically a Dreamcast "demo disc" with a narrative.
You knoe, Capcom could make this as a pretty 3D open-ish world experience and update control schemes to more modern adaptations except also add in Hard Mode that allows the game to become a Megaman Souls-like game. Not the whole respwan thing, but dodging, mobility, and attacking when the narrow window presents itself... Or a more dynamic combat flow. Have some aide missions where you're the Bonne's also showing off they can hack it too for variety.

Despite some flaws, (I'm looking at you farm stages and some of the mini-games). This game is one of my favorite Mega man Spin-offs. It's a shame that Glyde's voice get's replace in the next game. I wish they would've kept him. I think he's my favorite voice for the character in these spin-offs.
I've always thought MMBN Yai looks kind of like a duck. And to find out that THIS is where Glide comes from and also he has a little duck minion is wild.
I always had a soft-spot in my heart for the Servbots even before I ever played Misadventures of Tron Bonne (Legends 2 being the only Mega Man Legends game I actually played during childhood) because I always found them to be a little cute and a little charming. But finally getting around to Misadventures cemented them as one of my favorite aspects of the Mega Man universe due to how much fun personality each has. Sure, they're somewhat limited in the way PS1 games all were, but you have all these little personality quirks that come through as you interact with them: Like the #35 who likes to paint and just wants to find some stuff to doodle with. Or the #1 feeling responsible for his younger brothers while #2 looks up to and tries to emulate his older brother. Or #20 who is a psychotic piece of work hanging out in the torture room because he likes it there.
To explain the Servebots eating: The line between a Robot and a Person in MegaMan Legends is... very thin. Agurably, the Servbots have more in common with Rock then Rock has with Roll.
But we love the angry teen and her lego robot army. Not to mention the lego robot army are her babies....... The very same ones that she abuse for most of the series. Still mad that I never got a chance to play this one which again capcom legends legacy collection right over there you can do that.
A cute game. While it's quite apparent to see why it didn't sell at the time, it's definitely worth a $6 PS3 digital experiment to any Mega Man fan. That said, John... try as you might, but you can't run from Star Force 2 forever...!

The farm missions make a _little_ sense when you take into account that Loath is (allegedly) one of the ranch's owners, making it a middle finger to him on top of a money-making scheme. ...although, Tron didn't know about this when she first planned the heist, the rumor was told to her by one of the Servbots during the briefing... Still doesn't make it an interesting level choice for a late-game mission.
Fear of failure means means never trying (creativity goes out the window). On the other hand...trying to milk an IP till death isn't a good idea either.
I find it ironic how the complete lack of sales and refusal to rerelease makes this game very tempting to “pirate”

God, I played this game SO MUCH. Like, I've put more hour into this than both Legends 1 and 2. No, I wasn't a normal kid.

Despite some flaws, (I'm looking at you farm stages and some of the mini-games). This game is one of my favorite Mega man Spin-offs. It's a shame that Glyde's voice get's replace in the next game. I wish they would've kept him. I think he's my favorite voice for the character in these spin-offs.
I've always thought MMBN Yai looks kind of like a duck. And to find out that THIS is where Glide comes from and also he has a little duck minion is wild.
I always had a soft-spot in my heart for the Servbots even before I ever played Misadventures of Tron Bonne (Legends 2 being the only Mega Man Legends game I actually played during childhood) because I always found them to be a little cute and a little charming.
But finally getting around to Misadventures cemented them as one of my favorite aspects of the Mega Man universe due to how much fun personality each has. Sure, they're somewhat limited in the way PS1 games all were, but you have all these little personality quirks that come through as you interact with them:
Like the #35 who likes to paint and just wants to find some stuff to doodle with.
Or the #1 feeling responsible for his younger brothers while #2 looks up to and tries to emulate his older brother.
Or #20 who is a psychotic piece of work hanging out in the torture room because he likes it there.

The line between a Robot and a Person in MegaMan Legends is... very thin.
Agurably, the Servbots have more in common with Rock then Rock has with Roll.

These graphics are really neat
But we love the angry teen and her lego robot army. Not to mention the lego robot army are her babies....... The very same ones that she abuse for most of the series. Still mad that I never got a chance to play this one which again capcom legends legacy collection right over there you can do that.
A cute game. While it's quite apparent to see why it didn't sell at the time, it's definitely worth a $6 PS3 digital experiment to any Mega Man fan.
That said, John... try as you might, but you can't run from Star Force 2 forever...!

The farm missions make a _little_ sense when you take into account that Loath is (allegedly) one of the ranch's owners, making it a middle finger to him on top of a money-making scheme.

Still doesn't make it an interesting level choice for a late-game mission.
