Plot twist: Five years into the marriage, the beauty filed for no fault divorce and got half of the beast's assets, including the library. The beast committed suicide and she lived happily ever after. Can't wait for a woke Disney movie with this more realistic twist.

Belle never thought she could fix him.
"There's something sweet, and almost kind, but he was mean and he was course and unrefined.
But now he's dear, and so unsure. I wonder why I didn't see it there before. ...
New and a bit alarming. Who'd have ever thought that this could be. True that he's no Prince Charming, but there's something in him that I simply didn't see."
She didn't see it in him, she had no intention of fixing him. She was surprised he didn't make her live in the tower dungeon. Then, through her mere presence and a single act of compassion after he rescues her (granted he scared her out of the castle which is why she needed rescuing) he began to change himself for her.
She was with the beast as a prisoner in exchange for her father's life. Even after their relationship improved and they had the romantic evening together she was surprised that he released her from her promise so she could save her father.
This is a story of a beastly man changing himself for the better by the mere presence of a woman in his life. This is not the story of a woman taking on a project to rescue a despicable man. This is not the story of a woman falling in love with an abusive man despite his abuse. This is the story of a man who finds what has been missing in his life and makes himself worthy of her. She falls for him AFTER he has made changes. She falls in love with the improved man. She rejects the man who clearly is incapable of making changes.

I actually recently watched the movie. What really struck me was how moved by belles selflessness the beast was. He was shocked she was willing to take her fathers place. He was shocked at her kindness. And he even was shocked at how she wouldn’t let him mistreat her. And because of her example he wanted to be better. It’s that dynamic where someone is so beautiful in spirit (not just physically) that it moves you to also be a better person. It’s in that effort to be a good person that Belle starts to fall in love.
The beast loved belle before belle loves him. She didn’t “train” him she set the example for being a good person and it was so beautiful that the beast to wanted to be good.

At first I thought Jordan meant that Beauty was keeping a psychopath - her monster - at bay by loving him. That didn’t make sense to me. Then I realized Jordan meant that by training her monster, with love, then the monster, the beast, will be able to keep the psychopaths at bay. Because the Beast isn’t a psychopath - he’s just disagreeable and strong and doesn’t have a direction or motivation to direct his strength.

    • @KaarinaKimdaly

I do not think that the beast within JBP is kept entirely at bay, but he likes to teach/direct others. After all, he IS an academic.
      But, honestly, is he sage?
I would think that someone with credentials as he has would have been aware of the extremely addicting nature of the benzodiazapine, 'Klonopin'. It is commonly known for that. Nevertheless, he took it and became so addicted that he needed medical
help getting off it, breaking the addiction.
I guess when someone is in enough psychological pain, sometimes they will do things that in the long run, here the addiction,
help only with symptoms,; the help is only temporary, and then the stress of the addiction breaking occurs; more psychological pain.
I wonder if in retrospect he thinks it was worth it ?

He knew. He wrote his PhD thesis on addiction. He either overestimated his ability to not become addicted or decided that the benefits outweighed the risk.
When he got addicted, he could've followed his own advice and endured his suffering until it passed. Instead, he underwent a medically-induced coma in attempt to skip the suffering, and he paid for it with his reputation and his mental health.
Knowing the path but lacking the strength to walk it fits *very* well with the archetype of a sage.
However, none of that is relevant because a flaw in someone's character doesn't diminish the validity of any idea that they share just because you heard it from them, especially when it's irrelevant to the topic at hand.
It's an ad hominem, which is literally illogical.

@@Matdildi It's not from the movie. It's an observation about the movie and relationships.
In The Beauty and the Beast, Belle is repeatedly harassed by Gaston. If you remember, in the first act he comes into her house uninvited, puts his smelly feet on her table and starts telling her how she was going to become his wife, reading (her hobby) was pointless and that she was going to bear him 10 sons. Now, she can refuse his offer, but if he wanted to he could force her. He's at least twice her size and the town hero.
She also couldn't kick him out physically or make him stop making a mess because she had no way of overpowering him.
Then the beast comes into play and now there's someone that can keep creeps like Gaston in line.
That's basically the point. If someone big and scary is walking next to you, less people are likely to mess with you.
As an alternative, I'd recommend getting a big dog. That'd work about the same.

For me, it was the library in the castle. I would have happily lived in that room for the rest of my life. I dreamed of having a library like that since i was a kid.
After my bachelorette party (which was just me and my best friend book store/thrift store hopping where my then fiance gave me the rest of the money we saved for the money to spend on books as his wedding gift to me) i came home to find out he turned our third bedroom into a "reading nook" where he lined all the walls with book shelves and put a little bean bag chair in the middle. I came home with my arms full of books and pretty journals i planned to fill with letters to him through the years. He ran me a bath, poured me a glass of wine, sat with me while i showed him all the books i got and then led me to the room of shelves i could fill. It was the best and easily the most seen ive ever felt in my life. To this day five years later, he still get me books for part of every gift/holiday and he still sits in the room watching me rearrange and giggle over my growing collection. Our three year old daughter now has her own little bean bag chair in there and during quite time, we sit together in our chairs reading/looking at our books. Sometimes its really just knowing the person youre with sees and appreciates what you love and finds small ways to make your dreams come true. Even if/when they dont understand 🤷🏻‍♀️ thats what the beast did. Gaston just acted like she was crazy like everyone else and only wanted her because she was pretty and "unattainable". He wanted the chase not the person. The beast loved HER once he learned who she was. 🤷🏻‍♀️

And monster... Isn't Gaston the monster in the story? He refuses to accept her no and keeps chasing her. He believes she fits him even though he ridicules her interests and tries to force her into a role she doesn't want. The beast lets her be. I read something about that Belle and the Beast recognize themselves in the other: they both don't fit in and are ostracized by the others. They understand eachother. That's why she chooses the beast.

Gaston is not an archetype. The beast is, and the beauty is; but Gaston is not. He's a clearly Feminist invention, an inauthentic addition to the myth, inserted in 1991. If anything, his character seems designed to flatter developing women that they'll find it easy to recognize and eliminate the Gastons of the world. How well that's going, well, you be the judge.

The beast was also a psychopath! He went ballistic when people trespassed his castle, he kept Belle’s father in his dungeon when he tried to get a rose for her off his property. And then he also went ballistic when Belle entered forbidden parts of the castle.

    • @lovetobe6118
      @lovetobe6118 5 місяців тому

Can't blame him for being upset at going to the forbidden spot. It's his castle. He asks her to stay out of his bedroom basically. He over reacted, but I would be mad if someone went into my bedroom when I told them not to. He at least has the decency to knock on her door rather than go into her bedroom uninvited.

The kind of plan you're suggesting doesn't come from strength but from a fragile and weakened position. Also women who have high self esteem and value integrity in men won't be interested in this kind of game - which just sounds boring and exhausting. On the other hand though, insecure, needy, women (who might also be the type to look for validation elsewhere if it's not provided) might fall for it. On the whole this kind of plan has all the ingredients for a really miserable relationship - for the sad and fragile man that lacks integrity and for the insecure women who has to put up with these kinds of shortcomings.
