Stuff we use:
CAMERA - This is the camera we have used to film 90+% of our interviews (over 200 interviews and counting) It continues to be our workhorse - amzn.to/2u66V1J
LENS - Most people ask us what camera we use, no one ever asks about the lens which filmmakers always tell us is more important. This lens was a big investment for us and one we wish we could have made sooner. Started using this lens at the end of 2013 - amzn.to/2tbtmOq
AUDIO
Rode VideoMic Pro - The Rode mic helps us capture our backup audio. It also helps us sync up our audio in post amzn.to/2t1n2hx
Audio Recorder - If we had to do it all over again, this is probably the first item we would have bought - amzn.to/2tbFlM9
LIGHTS - Although we like to use as much natural light as we can, we often enhance the lighting with this small portable light. We have two of them and they have saved us a number of times - amzn.to/2u5UnHv
COMPUTER - Our favorite computer, we each have one and have used various models since 2010 - amzn.to/2t1M67Z
EDITING - We upgraded our editing suite this year and we’re glad we did! This has improved our workflow and the quality of our work. Having new software also helps when we have a problem, it’s easy to search and find a solution - goo.gl/56LnpM

"It doesn't have to be perfect, it just has to be what you want"
The woman knows what she's talking about!
But what if you want it to be perfect?

I’ve attended her classes in London. She is amazing and really knows her stuff. This is a woman who has experience and vast knowledge. Extremely easy to learn with and makes her classes so much fun.
Not sure exactly how I came across this channel but glad we crossed paths.
"Write your story then find research points that suit that story." On procrastination through research. GOLD!
I had the pleasure of attending high school and college, for awhile , with Pilar. Went to so many parties at her house. Always cool, smart, fun. I should have taken her online class years ago.
She has the charisma, i love her bright smile
"Write what you want and then find things to support it." Love that; so true. Thank you.
Just found this channel today, I'm working on my first screenplay after being a music journalist for 5 years, you ask really good questions ! Love it.
Hi Taylor, we're happy to hear of your discovery. Here is one of our best screenwriting videos that we hope helps you ua-cam.com/video/13KcN-fRLFI/v-deo.html Also thank you for your compliment, knowing you are a journalist, it means that much more to us. Cheers!
At 3:45: About getting it right vs getting it written. "It doesn't have to be perfect, it just has to be what you want" Excellent!
I just got into Pilar"s podcast on the page. She has absolutely swooned my psychological need to progress as a writer with her podcast.
Film courage is just the same with the informative content. I am so grateful to be alive in our present day.
Learned a #ell of a lot! Thank you! BTW I've been working crime scenes for 16 years. No amount of research will EVER change your story. Write your story, let research support, not derail it.
I have found this channel today. I love everything here. I am stuck with the first draft for two years now. I always go back and try to perfect. I have never done five chapters in all those years. I am ashamed of myself. I am glad to discover this and hopefully I will start afresh. I am a teacher in Kampala Uganda, East Africa.
Thank you
Watched hundreds of vid on this channel and She is one of my absolute favorites
She's great. I'd love to take a class from her. Have put her book on my list of must-reads.
Her book is marvelous.
Definitely recommend!
Another fantastic interview! You guys bring out the joy in people--brilliant. Thank you.
one minute listening to you turning a negative artistic outlook into a relevant positive point of view.....lovely
Back to work people, start writing!
recomputed 🙌🏼🙌🏼
I'm eating right now, give me a sec.
I can't focus on two things at once, man! D:
@@Thenoobestgirl focus on the one thing you enjoy!
I'm presently reading her book "got 10 minutes? write your screenplay" Such a helpful book. Thanks Pilar!!
Why didn't I see this 6 years ago?!?
So much great advice in a 20 min clip.
I never actively want to tune in to this channel, but the great content always draws me back in...
How bout dat!
We appreciate you coming back Gregg!
@@filmcourage I appreciate the content!
Wow, on the page was literally the 3rd podcast I subscribed to back in the iTunes days, she really made the idea of screenwriting accessible to an outsider. So valuable.
This is a very intelligent lady with loads of useful information.
I love this woman! Her podcast is so helpful!
Trying to sign up for her writing marathon right now.
Pilar is insightful and generous with her wisdom.
I absolutely love Film Courage. I always come away with new ideas and screen writing techniques with every video. And, they're usually very inspirational. There are times when I ask myself, am I really making a healthy choice by trying to write screenplays? This usually comes up after an hour of struggling with a script. But, all I have to do is watch another video from Film Courage, and my confidence returns. Now...back to that rewrite. :P
Refuel and back at it!
Great interview questions!
And answers!
Agree with Taylor. You ask really good questions, Film Courage. 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Thanks Mauricio, it's not always easy but we do our best to ask new questions as often as we can.
Her comments and advice on time usage and management, short writing blocks are acceptable, are useful. I will incorporate it, and make systematic progress.
Her presentation is genuine, I really enjoyed it!
Awesome input. Thank you.
Pilar is truly amazing and very generous with her time here. All the females script consulting and coaches (i.e. Linda Sager) are so nurturing with their advice, they touch me. Thanks, FC, for the most inspiring, educational and the best Q&A interviews in the film industry. Have a blessed and healthy new years and thank YOU for existing. I'm a better writer because of your amazing roster of great guest.
I just writing my first biography script..... and I love her 10 mins idea. I find that ideas flow easy and fast when I know I’ll not be stuck with it all day.
I also love the fact that you write first and do the research to fit the writing ✍🏽..... SO TRUE.... that’s what I have been doing so that I don’t get distracted with the idea I have on my mind.
I put it very quick in writing as soon as I’m inspired and I do the research later....
that’s for searching this..... do many USEFUL TIPS
Great advice! So glad I found this channel
Working on my first screenplay now. This was super helpful. Thank you both!!!
Nice to hear Tim. Keep creating.
Thanks! Great advice!
Fantastic points!
An excellent Q&A.
Pilar is a great teacher
Wonderful interview
Great interview
This may the best video about writing... glad to find this video.... \,,/
I Love pilar
"A year ago" but this is just what I wanted to hear just now. Stuck around the midpoint of my story--constantly looking back as to keep the hinges on the story... but I have my foundation all laid out (it's been that way for a long way) and I'm going to get right on that "vomit draft".
Another good one.
Thanks Mike!
Pilar is wonderful
I wish doing the thing you truly want to do didn't hurt so bad. How long have we created the habit of finding a safe place to hide instead of just doing what scares you. I really need to reframe the narrative of my life and just do it. Good luck to all of you.
"A walking hidden agenda" ... I'm stealing that! Great video, thanks Pilar. Good luck to you both.
A humble influencer. I like Pilar.
I try writing without internet, so I can look up the stuff I am not sure about later... (or better most of the time: delete them)
Dear Film Courage,
Yours is the best channel.
Sincerely, an (actual) writer
I love the interviewer. "no pressure." lol.
you should always have a lot of options from A thru Z…if one story doesn’t work the way you want , then make sure you have more ideas..
Ive been writing short films because features scared me however if i can write a 10 page short in one day...i think i can write a 90 page script in a month or so....
Really happy I came across this channel. Just throwing this out there and seeing where it lands😎 I’m looking for a writing partner for screenplays. I have a ton of ideas and would love the chance to work with a like-minded writer.
These Rock!
Some good advice here!
The questions asked are so exceptionally relevant and absolutely on-point.
I noticed hat as well.
Amazing! This is super useful information! Thanks Film Courage for uploading this videos.
Any tips for a person who want to reach the US community reader/producers but live outside US??
Thanks Leniel. We haven't covered a lot of success stories outside of the US but here is how it happened for David F. Sandberg - ua-cam.com/video/VQUuDkxrrQA/v-deo.html
@@filmcourage Thank you, I'm learning a lot from you guys! Greetings
Best part... 8:29 to 8:40. Thats my kind of thing.
Thanks film courage.
I love writing.....it’s the paperwork I can’t stand. (The antagonist (stuff don’t want to do) must always be ten times greater than the hero for the hero to be a hero)
She seems like an excellent professor. Has anyone taken classes with her? Reviews?
hi film courage, just want to thank both you and pilar for saving me from eating the tip of my pen off.... lol...gratefull. aspiring actor/writer Boston ma
Nice book “the coffee break screenwriter”
NO... FADE IN...
that is just extra words that doesn't need to be there anymore...
It's tradition like Once Upon A Time or In The Beginning, and such. I feel it anchors the portal of the story structure. When I write revisions, it can act as a buoy or marker when you are moving scenes around or writing non-sequentially.
I don't put transitions in my screenplay unless there's something specific I want anyway. Imo that comes later
@@georgesikorski9891
I agree.
Anúncio de 2 em 2 minutos é demais.
3:20
A Good Script-Story = Action + Emotion
Action begets Emotion which begets more Action...
Far less than 1% of the scripts submitted every year get produced...can you deal with that fact?
That's because a majority of the people who take on screenwriting do it for the lottery ticket and don't take it seriously or treat it as a profession. They're posers.
There is a reason for it. I try to keep that in mind, though I do get the problem here.
In the words of Nathan ford from leverage “you should start at plan M.”
This is what I should do because otherwise I will never get started and never get it done. 10 to 20 minutes is all I really have time for (and there I go again, exaggerating the 10 while forcing time I don't have!!)
Pilar!
7:18 Relates to the title
Thank you!!!!!
the majority of people writing do have issues of discipline; successful writers overcome this...
What if I want it to be perfect?
I think this is a great book but my scripts turned out terrible.
