  • Dull tools are a pain. This applies especially to kitchen knives. There's nothing more annoying than preparing food with an implement that squashes the ingredients rather than cutting them.
You can probably imagine that I have quite a few sharpening implements around my house. Still, I am always keen to try new methods of achieving a razor edge on my cooking knives. I have lately been bombarded with advertisements for these roller-type sharpeners. Of course, I had to test this principle!
I hope you enjoy the video!

Video should be called "how to sharpen a knife with a can of beans, plywood, glue, a block of wood, a protractor, pencil, saw, sandpaper, vice, drill, magnets, planer, oil, scissors, rubber feet, and two hours of spare time.

Nice! I cut off the end of an old table leg for my abrasive roller. It's too big and this is a great idea for a substitute.

Thanks! It works great. But I’m a bit scared that one day I’ll drop it and all the goo comes out :)

Very good BUT: How do you open the can for the beans now???
Sieht gut aus und funktioniert, ABER: Wie kommst Du jetzt an die Bohnen in der Dose?

With a knife this sharp you can slice it right open.

Very cool.... How come you didnt sharpen from the heel of the knife?

Thanks! I’m not sure what you mean. But I think as long as you end up with polished surfaces it doesn’t really matter how you do it.

@@imadethischannelhe means: why didnt you sharpen the entire cutting Edge surface on the knife? Why just the middle? Cause now you havent sharpened the part closest to you (the heel)

The way you made straight 20° аngle cut is amazing.
Perhaps, you dont have a lathe machine to turn the round piece of sharpener?
I have a feeling that you might have enough skills, but witouth machine.. don t you?

    • @imadethischannel
      @imadethischannel  Рік тому +2

I would love to have a lathe at some point. But with too many technical aides, it also becomes boring at some point..

1000 years from now someone finds your jig without knowing what is the use of such device, looks for some details on them internets, but cannot test it because they don't use knives anymore and after accidentally dropping the can and a red liquid comes out of the . . . device, they conclude: _ahh, so this is the lubrication liquid, but how did they got it to get on the abrasive side?
    Anyways, interesting people the 2000'neers._
P.S. Very nice to watch, your work process. Also, nice to see the replication of overpriced products.
    Cheers.
