I remember this TGIF Christmas lineup! Thanks for the trip down memory lane. I loved TGIF, but my favorite was the Christmas lineup of shows each year. 1995 was the last holiday season with all of these shows on the lineup. 1996 Sabrina the Teeneage Witch joined. Step by Step had a delayed start until Spring 1997, so no Christmas episode. Fall 1997 TGIF changed a lot with Family Matters & Step by Step both moving to CBS. At least they both got to have Christmas episodes, but as part of the CBS Blockparty lineup. I'll have to look back on 1998 and 1999 Christmas lineups. I watched TGIF until its cancellation in 2000. Friday nights were never the same as they were back in the 90s.

@@rememberwhenchannel They really did! Every Friday night my family would gather and watch TGIF. It was a weekly ritual. lol. 90s tv shows were really about 'family matters'. No pun intended. lol!

@kc1184 facts, it united the whole family. Friday nights were family nights, get a pizza and make some rootbeer floats and watch TGIF.

      It’s due to multiple factors.
      1) Aging sitcoms like Family Matters and Step by Step moving to CBS (who started - and ended - their own family-friendly Friday night sitcom line-up in 1997-98 called "CBS Friday Night Block Party")
      2) The over saturation of supernatural/magic type shows (Sabrina the Teenage Witch and new series You Wish and Teen Angel, the latter of which both lasted only one season)
      3) The failure of Two of a Kind (which was the last sitcom produced by the previously reliable Miller-Boyett group) starring the Olsen twins the following year (1998-99)
      4) Boy Meets World ending after seven seasons and Sabrina moving to The WB after the 1999-2000 season.
ABC would bring back the TGIF brand for the 2003-05 & 2018-19 seasons, but it never met the same success it had before.

Nah. It’s not the nostalgia alone that makes this channel great (although I do love it and that’s the glue connecting the channel’s theme). It’s the great comedic timing of hilarious one liners and clever jokes. Both the set up and satisfying execution kept me hooked o clicking on video after video. I love finding a new channel that makes me do that- hours going by not realizing I’ve now watched like 20 videos from the creator.

ABC's TGIF block died beginning in fall 1997, stemming from a combination of aging sitcoms like Family Matters and Step by Step moving to CBS (who started - and ended - their own family-friendly Friday night sitcom line-up in 1997-98 called "The Block Party"), the oversaturation of supernatural/magic type shows (Sabrina the Teenage Witch and new series You Wish and Teen Angel, the latter of which both lasted only one season), the failure of Two of a Kind (starring the Olsen twins, which was the last sitcom produced by the previously reliable Miller-Boyett group) and Brother's Keeper: the following year (1998-99), and ultimately the ending of Boy Meets World after seven seasons and Sabrina... moving to The WB after the 1999-2000 season.
ABC would bring back the TGIF brand for the 2003-05 & 2018-19 seasons, but it never met the same success it had before.

Today's tv environment is too cheap to make something like TGIF work. I don't even count 2018-2019 as a serious attempt. Only 2003-05 was serious.

@@averymerrick The good news is that there's still a decent audience on broadcast that is worth programming for despite demo ratings being the smallest it's ever been but with all the options for entertainment, that was inevitable. Look no further than The Penguin on HBO. That show is as popular as it gets and its viewership is on par with broadcast.
