    Hi, are you having any mic input issues if you rock the input left and right? This is a realistic scenario and I'm now considering returning my F2 and getting Tentacle Sync Trac E.

      @poutineitup9510  3 роки тому

      Good question. Someone on my full review video of the F2 asked something very similar to this. I tested it out for them and when I screw in the connector the connector seems really solid and doesn’t move and fiddling with it didn’t seem to cause any popping sound in the recording. Only when I had the connector very loosely screwed in and fiddling with it caused it to move in the jack did it cause any popping sound. Now that you are the second person to ask I’m wondering if there is some problem with some of the recorders or perhaps with some of the lav mics in the kit. I can try and retest later and see if I can detect anything.

      @@poutineitup9510 I had this issue while the mic input was tightly secured. It seems like a tolerance issue.
      Looks like I'll be returning mine unfortunately as I can't have this possibly happening during a production.

      @@AsianWithHat if it is screwed down tightly then perhaps you are right that it is a tolerance issue. Have you tried with another microphone? I’m curious whether it is the male 1/8” connector or a problem with the female jack.

      @@AsianWithHat so I did manage to get this to pop but it wasn’t super easy. I had to wiggle the connector back and forth a decent amount to get it to pop. The next test I bundled up the mic cable and used a twisty tie to keep it in a bundle. I then shook the lav mic bundle around pretty vigorously and it never popped. If your’s pops super easily and there is a zero tolerance for a pop to appear in your audio for paid professional recordings then I would say you can try to get a replacement or you could go with an entire different brand. For me and my purposes this zoom recorder will work for my purposes. I recorded with this on my pocket for over 2 hours and I listened through the whole clip as I edited the video and I didn’t notice any pops. Perhaps I didn’t happen to hit the connector in the wrong way but I felt for my UA-cam video purposes this was a pretty good field test. I wish you the best of luck getting a better replacement F2 or another recorder entireLy.

      The sound isn't quite the same as my large condenser mic but it still is decent audio quality and way better than any of the built in microphones on cameras. I actually just ejected the card from the zoom F2 and imported the clips into my computer that way.

    I recently purchased the ZOOM F2 and I'm using it with the included lavalier microphone. However, my recordings are coming out very quiet. In your video, the audio seems much louder. Could you please share any tips or settings you used to achieve that?

    • @kenjihorvath3163
      @kenjihorvath3163 3 місяці тому

      I don’t recall the settings but because it is a 32 bit recording you won’t peak as much but the sound may be quieter. You can adjust the gain in post production in davinci resolve or whatever your audio/video software is. It is good to post process your audio regardless because microphones are not perfect and how people talk isn’t the same. So you can drop the harsh sounds in post to make the audio sound more soothing to the listener.

      @@kenjihorvath3163 Thanks for the info! So it sounds like this is normal and there's no issue with the equipment itself. I guess I just need to adjust the audio in post-production then.

    Can you record straight from the mixing board?

    • @poutineitup9510
      @poutineitup9510  3 роки тому

      I’ve only recorded straight into the zoom F2. I then connected a usb C cable and pulled the wav file from the device onto my computer where I then added it to my video. I hope this answers your question. If not can you clarify your question a bit more please?

    • @MoonlitFilms
      @MoonlitFilms 3 роки тому +1

      @@poutineitup9510 no, I mean, can you connect it (with mini jack to jack or mini jack to XLR cable) to dj mixing board and record into zoom f2 with good quality and without clipping?

    • @poutineitup9510
      @poutineitup9510  3 роки тому

      @@MoonlitFilms oh I see. To be honest I’m not sure since I don’t have a mixing board to test with. I would assume you could though if you can send the line out to the zoom F2. I’m sure others would be interested in hearing whether you could. If you happen to pick up one of these and try it out, reply back with whether it works and how well. Sorry I couldn’t give you a definitive answer to your question.

      @@MoonlitFilms You bring up a great question! I've never thought about doing this since I use a Zoom H6 but I may have to try this! I don't believe the F2 is designed for this or at least not marketed that way but I guess the only downside (without knowing the product) would be that you are at the mercy of the device's software to adjust the levels of what comes from the board and all you would have for reference is the small screen. There also may be limitations related to phantom power/ voltage. I've been using the DR-10L but this is coming in the mail!

    The lav mic is horribly undetailed and muffled. I wish you plugged in a 3rd party higher quality one like a Rode Lav, Sanken Cos11, Sennheiser Mke2, DPA, etc.

    • @poutineitup9510
      @poutineitup9510  3 роки тому +2

      I appreciate your thoughts. I wanted to show how the included lav mic sounds so people know what to expect by the stand alone kit. Additionally I didn’t have another lav mic on hand to do a side by side comparison. Do you think if I use something like my deity D3 to plug into the F2 would be a valuable comparison for people to hear along side of the included lav mic? If so I can create a video with that.

    • @costinvaly1
      @costinvaly1 3 роки тому

      @@poutineitup9510 Definitely! You should even rent a couple more lavs mentioned above if possible, for just one day from your local video equipment dealer, there's many other film makers with ther higher quality lav mics wondering how their current mic would sound on a 32bit recorder like the F2. No one else did this test on this form factor 32bit recorder, neither with the similar Tentacles E Track that also records 32bit, so i think it would be really interesting for the fellow film makers out there who'd like to see if a 3rd party high quality lav mic would improve the quality dramatically over the included mic.
