Very impressed! Not only in your perseverance, but great video over all! Building drones is not for the faint of heart, but is so rewarding! You went through every challenge in one week that most spread out over months.
This is amazing for your first built FPV drone! I am working on my robotics and building stuff for right now so i am not that experienced, but this is so cool!
I liked the build. You are a great guy. You do it well. A small tip. Try using other soldering tips for soldering. b2 is good for small parts, for thick power cables it is just hell. For power cables, C4 is good, you can also try K or KU. For other wires on FC, bc2 or d24 are good. My personal preferences are C4 and bc2.
I completely understand your frustration. I built enough RC helicopters to learn that I suck at soldering and that I should stick to BnF with my drones.
Nice effort man. amazing video. Small tip for any beginner, the quad size depends on the prop size, which depends on your motor size and Amp draw which depends on ur esc and FC. So first, decide which frame u want, then look for which motors and props fit that frame as the mounting holes are different for each size, then the ESC and the FC.
really good stuff dude, I built my first quad for only 200$ despite people telling me to get prebuilt because it was so time consuming and difficult to build one, but it paid off because I now know all the ins and outs, competely worth teh learning curve.
As an experienced one, U should build first drone having a big frame like F450 frame(make this one cheap as you are learning, that's what i did)then come to 5 inch then come to smaller, that's better as u directly won't have to suffer from hard things at first
Awesome video Caleb! I hope you stick with the hobby it's alot of fun and gets less frustrating the more experience you gain with building! :) I subbed to keep up with your progress
1 tipfor starter.. never get yourself AIO... better start with stack FC ESC.. easier to solder mostly comes with large pad and solderlress vtx, tx connector
a little bit of advice dont set the soldering iron to max. maybe 10 degrees above what ever the solder is rated for and clean off the tip as much as possible. but also make sure the tip is tinned as this is what makes it melt the solder faster.
9:30, or just cut the uart 2 wire if you don't use the dji controller. I'd recommend getting a bigger soldering iron tip and some flux in a tube, that works well for me. Good job on the build and enjoy the hobby, fly safe!
Yeah I saw people saying that, but I didn't want to cut out the possibility of using the DJI controller. I have a larger soldering tip now. Thanks for the comment!
Most of your issues came from having little soldering experience. Once you have that down a lot less can go wrong. Nice find with the blades being on upside down.
Good video. You are right about the cinewhoops. If I get someone new into the hobby and they want to build a cinewhoop as their first one, yeah I'll try everything to keep them away from it. Not only is an AIO (as you noticed) not the best thing, a CineWhoop is also just not the most fun drone to fly. When I started I wanted to have fun, so I built a 5". Now I want long range, so I built an aiplane. A cinewhoop is good when you want to have indoor footage that can be used as a job or smth. But why the hell fly outside with it or try to do things it was not designed for?!? My best recommendation for a beginner is a 3.5" Freestyle. Take the Volador 3.5" Frame for example, I want this so bad but rn I don't want to buy another Walksnail Kit. Next thing. You use DJI, I use Walksnail, many people use Analog and a few HD0. The last 3 are great. DJI is dog s h i t. It's expensive and won't let you fly with other systems. I can easily use analog or hdzero with walksnail, and most modern Analog goggles can use walksnail and hdzero, and vise verca. DJI only lets in analog in the V2 goggles, which aren't produced anymore. So I'd get analog if I was starting new, but Walksnail is the next best thing. HD0 personally doesn't turn me on, but it sure is a great option! Now for some positive things. You watch bardwell, which is the best thing to do. I see many people stick to someone like Brodie Reed. No offense but he doesn't really talk that good stuff. Next. You informed yourself. Like with the prop thing: You went onto reddit and searched for the problem. Not spam any dc's full... You mentioned linux doesn't have the DJI activation app, and I think informing yourself and getting things done by yourself comes from something like linux. All in all cool Video, hope to see some more content, but please keep it in a style like this. Again, no offense, but someone like chase momo, nah that's not really it. Greetings from your FPV mates in Germany
