The addition of Dave Gregory & Nick D'Virgilio was a masterstroke. They make all the difference in the world to BBT and the band is going from strength to strength with them. Cannot wait for the album!
Dave Gregory is indeed a magnificent guitarist and NDV a brilliant drummer and vocalist. David Longdon is also an amazing singer; they have developed with him on board. All the other members add to the massive talent pool in the band. I believe they can do just about anything. They're that good.
Wonderful band, and as much I like prog metal, it's liberating to hear one band that leans more towards folk and symphonic prog than metal. And no speed metal guitar solos, fantastic!
I never need to fear getting some Top 40 trash stuck in my head, as i happily welcomed this song and all it's amazing melodies into my head a year ago and haven't looked back since.
+Gabriel Rico ... if you wanted me to; but it's a voyage of discovery best made with minimal guidance, otherwise the wonderful journey that you will take might lead you to the wrong destination for your needs
I got a email from amazon suggesting some albums and this was one. I've never heard of them and after listening to a few tracks, I've ordered the gatefold vinyl. I'm impressed and my dad, even more so.
Let us begin where it all began Fireside flickering flames Make the shadows dance Heigh-ho so we go we pass it on We hand it down-o We tell our tales, we sing our songs While we have breath left in our lungs Heigh-ho so we go we pass it on We hand it down-o We pass it on down To the young from the old We feel it deep down in the soul Heigh-ho so we go we pass it on We hand it down-o Sometimes truth hides beside the lies Grist to the mill, fuel to our fire Heigh-ho so we go we pass it on We hand it down-o For it is said, so it lives on We pass it down, it carries on Oh down we go into folklore The pen is mightier than the sword The music of the word is scored Heigh-ho so we go we pass it on We hand it down-o Our satellites they span the globe Lo our stories shall be told Heigh-ho so we go we pass it on We hand it down-o For it is said, so it lives on We pass it down, it carries on Oh down we go into folklore I am a messenger: I speak With integrity, truth, love and light For it is said, so it lives on And when we're gone, we carry on Oh down we go into folklore
Love the gnarly organ sounds in the verses. Adds a bit of grit to contrast the folky bits. Like others here I'm also loving Dave Gregory's soloing. They're a super band these days.
Echoes of the best parts of Duke by Genesis - especially the arpeggios at the end. But the production is so fantastic - the brass, the violin, female singer, real flute a la Gabriel, great drumming - fantastic stuff.
One of my favorite songs at the moment, pure magic guys !!!........I love it !!! .........also excellent live performance at last years Francis Dunnery CKDCF charity event here in West Cumbria.
This may just be one of the best things I've heard recently, the video is incredibly weird, but when I listened to the album earlier today I couldn't help but to drift away in thoughts, beautiful.
BBT seemlessly combines progressive and folk-rock - two of my favourite sub-genres of rock - to produce utterly sublime compositions. "Folklore" represents the perfection of this synthesis. I cannot recommend it enough.
BBT are growing on me, badass stuff like genesis, marillion and Tulls love child. I will ask Rothery and Hogarth what they think next time I see them! 👊 great band
I love this song, and it always reminds me of the wicker man through the video. Strong, brilliant uniquely british/celtic influences. Bought tickets to see them at Cadogam Hall over a year in advance. I was not disappointed.
I was looking for some bands similar to Unitopia, and finally I found one that is very similar to it. By the way, if you've never heard of Unitopia (or United Progressive Fraternity), please, do it! They're awesome as well.
RIP David Longdon.
It is a sad shame, that I never got to see You play here in the USofA.
I had no idea the beauty that was missing from my universe. My goodness. This is fantastic.
Agreed
Just discovered this...
Suitably impressed!
Nice to see Dave Gregory, ex XTC, involved.
Lead singer sings and plays flute like Peter Gabriel..

The solo at the end had some shredding, but it was tastefully done. ;)
LOVED 70s prog. Bored by second wave prog. Despise prog metal. LOVE this band!! Full circle.
*R.I.P. David Longdon (17th June 1965 - 20th November 2021)*
You can really hear Genesis as major influence on this band. Which is great. The singer sounds similar to Peter Gabriel.
Albeit the 40 years difference
Dave Longdon was actually the temporary singer for genesis
No he wasn't. He auditioned for them and was one of the two main contenders, but for some inexplicable reason, they chose Ray Wilson.
The more todays music is influenced by Genesis the better.
To me, with most of the vocals being harmonized, this sounds more like Seals & Croft than anything else, and that's a very good thing!
RIP David 😭
Very nice, and I love the Jon Lord keyboard sound :)
Music teachers working with children should be playing this music for their students.
I watch this video over and over so I must really like it.
I never need to fear getting some Top 40 trash stuck in my head, as i happily welcomed this song and all it's amazing melodies into my head a year ago and haven't looked back since.
Brilliant song from the top 21st century prog band :)
what about tool
+Gabriel Rico .... Tool are interesting; but hardly top of the pile (or even close)
+Richard Thresh I differ but im not gonna get all fanatic bout this lol, can you recomend me good prog?
+Gabriel Rico ... if you wanted me to; but it's a voyage of discovery best made with minimal guidance, otherwise the wonderful journey that you will take might lead you to the wrong destination for your needs
+Richard Thresh So will you?
Great Band 👍
Big Big Love!!!
Fantastic! I pass it on and hand it down!
So very gutted, by this insuperable loss.
I got a email from amazon suggesting some albums and this was one. I've never heard of them and after listening to a few tracks, I've ordered the gatefold vinyl. I'm impressed and my dad, even more so.
Loving the song, Dave Gregory's two solo spots are spine-tinglingly good.
Oh, yes!
Hey kids, rock and roll
Nobody tells you where to go, baby
Cosmic, a true sonic cathedral of sound, I wan't to visit Avebury again now.
This album and this music is so awesome! All the best from Brazil, BBT!
Good song and entertaining video. These guys are really good. I just recently discovered them ,glad I did.
Rest in peace great soul David Longdon.
Came here from a piece on a Prog Magazine CD... Thanks to the guys for allowing a piece to be used.
Let us begin where it all began
Fireside flickering flames
Make the shadows dance
Heigh-ho so we go we pass it on
We hand it down-o
We tell our tales, we sing our songs
While we have breath left in our lungs
Heigh-ho so we go we pass it on
We hand it down-o
We pass it on down
To the young from the old
We feel it deep down in the soul
Heigh-ho so we go we pass it on
We hand it down-o
Sometimes truth hides beside the lies
Grist to the mill, fuel to our fire
Heigh-ho so we go we pass it on
We hand it down-o
For it is said, so it lives on
We pass it down, it carries on
Oh down we go into folklore
The pen is mightier than the sword
The music of the word is scored
Heigh-ho so we go we pass it on
We hand it down-o
Our satellites they span the globe
Lo our stories shall be told
Heigh-ho so we go we pass it on
We hand it down-o
For it is said, so it lives on
We pass it down, it carries on
Oh down we go into folklore
I am a messenger: I speak
With integrity, truth, love and light
For it is said, so it lives on
And when we're gone, we carry on
Oh down we go into folklore
Thanks- never get tired of this

All of Folklore is brilliant.
RIP David :(
Don't neglect the input from excellent musician Rikard Sjöblom (former Beardfish)
(as a fellow Swede I wanted to point that out)
Sweden very involved in my fave music.
Add Roine Stolt!!
(Flower Kings + Transatlantic, and solo/collabs like w/ Jon Anderson :)
This song really expresses the meaning of the word folklore. David is really good in this.
The most English band ever.
…with an American drummer...
Heard of Stackridge? Hatfield & The North?
Epic and amazing
Wonderful, truly wonderful
Thank you for the brilliant music
Epic, what a return guys!
Echoes of the best parts of Duke by Genesis - especially the arpeggios at the end. But the production is so fantastic - the brass, the violin, female singer, real flute a la Gabriel, great drumming - fantastic stuff.
Great song, great concept. The countries have all the right to preserve the culture and traditions. Keep passing it on!
These guys are such freaking nerds, and I mean that as the highest of praise. You can tell they had a blast shooting this video.
Went to see them last night in Edinburgh.....absolutlely fantastic.
Loving the new album.
Great as expected. And featuring Rikard! So good.
Awesome band saw them in Leeds loved it magical experience
RIP DAVID LONGDON
Folklore - my album of the year 2016. Delightful.
Utterly magnificent discovery on a wintery Australian morn. Long live the world's folklore!
I know nothing about this band, but I appreciate anyone who writes a song about the folklore process.
One of my favorite songs at the moment, pure magic guys !!!........I love it !!! .........also excellent live performance at last years Francis Dunnery CKDCF charity event here in West Cumbria.
Just superb!
Superb.
Rest in peace David Longdon :(
This may just be one of the best things I've heard recently, the video is incredibly weird, but when I listened to the album earlier today I couldn't help but to drift away in thoughts, beautiful.
Belleza!!!
Loving it
Music full of power in positive sense. That's the world is needing now! No growls and screams!
that is truly wonderful
Wonderful!
Fantastic. Love it. Can't wait for the album.
Awesome! I can't wait for the new album
RIP David Longdon
i love thus piece great
It sounds great!
Love it guys! Baffled how I haven't heard of you before :)
BBT seemlessly combines progressive and folk-rock - two of my favourite sub-genres of rock - to produce utterly sublime compositions. "Folklore" represents the perfection of this synthesis. I cannot recommend it enough.
The use of a brass section cements it all together.......
Wow I found something interesting here!!! Love the progressions and and guitar and keyboard solo's
Apart from the band the stars of the video are Nick Hale, the loose dog and the hedgehog boy :)
Hedgehog boy??
BBT are growing on me, badass stuff like genesis, marillion and Tulls love child.
I will ask Rothery and Hogarth what they think next time I see them! 👊 great band
Awesome!
What a wonderful video and a fantastic track. Love it.
Phenomenal!
I love this song, and it always reminds me of the wicker man through the video. Strong, brilliant uniquely british/celtic influences. Bought tickets to see them at Cadogam Hall over a year in advance. I was not disappointed.
Excellent! I heard this on Bob Harris Sunday radio show.
I was looking for some bands similar to Unitopia, and finally I found one that is very similar to it. By the way, if you've never heard of Unitopia (or United Progressive Fraternity), please, do it! They're awesome as well.
Excellent
Outstanding band seen them 2 years ago in Edinburgh as good live

Optimal BBT! Superb
Stupendifying.
Folklore by Big Big Train
Awesome band, superb musicians all. Particularly like the unassuming and modest Greg Spawton who has written so much wonderful material.
The dancing is very impressive ;)
