    Hey here's a comment that's actually relevant to the video!
    Laser projectors are amazing. They're slowly being rolled out at the university I work for and they require virtually no maintenance, the image is bright and they also effectively remove the potential for timing errors between them and the control equipment that the end user will operate. Not to mention of course the instant on and off is super helpful when you're trying to troubleshoot a professors laptop connection in the middle of their class.

    You forgot to mention that laser projectors are closed systems so the cooling doesn't suck in the same amount of dust and particles, prolonging the lifetime. However, this means that changing it will be much more expensive than the separate conventional bulbs we have today, should you need to do so. They also emit less heat and can be used in any angle. Regular projectors need to be told what direction they're hung and often switch to a portrait bulb in case you want to use them on the side.
    The high end units we use in the rental business start somewhere around $20.000,- with a default lens kit. Then you want to add more lenses, brackets, flights and infrastructure. 😎

    You've seen all the warning that come with laser pens about looking into the beam. This makes me wonder, do laser projectors have the same dangers. If your laser projector is set up in your living room and your kid catches a faceful of HD glory as he walks between it and the wall, are his eyes going to literally get burnt out of his sockets?

  • @JoLouisLA11
    @JoLouisLA11 7 років тому

    You have a better control on your colors with three seperate monochromatic light sources (unique wave lenght). lasers are also coherent sources (a simple wave, so not multiple phases at the same time), we can create inteference with two beam that come only from the same laser (it can't work with two laser, even if they produce the same wave lenght: waves are not perfect). So for laser projectors, no intefrence are created. A fun fact with interference and laser, we can do holography : recording the 3D perspective of an object by recording with a photographic plate the interference between two beam (one reflect on the object and the other come directly from the source) with one laser, and reconstruct the object with only one beam.

    So here's a question. Say I am pointing my laser beamer at a white wall and I have it turned on for about 3 - 4 hours every night. Will the laser have any long term effect on the paint of my wall?
    Will I notice more wear when compared to a normal beamer?
    How long will it take for the laser beamer to have a visible effect on the paint on my walls?
    This problem would probably be avoided by using on of those projector screens, would I need a special screen for a laser projector however?
    So maybe more than 1 question but still, if anyone knows the answer I'd love to know.

    The majority of laser projectors (not just in the consumer space) are laser phosphor. It's not cheating.
    Whether RGB laser or laser phosphor, the the primary colors are combined to make write before getting to the light engine, where they are then separated by a prism the same as in a lamp projector.

  • @zodiacfml
    @zodiacfml 7 років тому

    I did a quick search and found that most laser projectors employ one laser light source and the operation is the same as LCD and DLP projectors. The laser is only better because it is potentially brighter and more efficient light source, similar to the success of LED over lamps

    • @zodiacfml

    One of the best features wasn't even mentioned: true blacks. Just like OLEDs in comparision to regular LCDs, the black pixels are actually "off" (or in this case not lit by the lasers), and not just backlit dark pixels, which leads to insane contrasts.

    You didn't mention 'Infinite Focus'. Laser projectors do not require a lens to focus the beams. This allows them to project onto a curved surface without any blurring. I've always wanted to see a rear projection, extremely curved, display using multiple laser projectors (even pico-projectors). One that literally gives you 180 degree field of view.
    Edit: You also didn't mention that laser projectors use scanning technology. The laser beam scans left to right, and top to bottom of the image just like the electron beams of CRT's do.
