    If this team has a weak mentality and is full of children (which I generally agree with) that is 100% the fault of the coach. As a large part of the fans have said for years, Gregg has done what very well may be irreparable harm to our team and player pool. Gregg has shown through his interviews and his actions that he is a coward who refuses to take accountability when things go wrong and guess what? Now are players are doing the exact same. Again, this should come as no surprise because anyone who was willing to look neutrally at the situation could see it clear as day.

    Didn’t Arena have almost a full squad of experienced MLS players but lost to a T&T B team, which resulted in not qualifying for the 2018 WC?

    • @Beefski
      @Beefski 3 місяці тому

      Arena made a bad decision to play almost all the field players for that 2nd game after beating Panama in Miami 4 days earlier. He also put in Tim Howard which was a mistake. Throughout the WC Qualifiers we played the second game with 6 or 7 different starters and kept the same GK Guzan and we got ties away.

    • @psu2dcu
      @psu2dcu 3 місяці тому +1

      @@Beefski True but it really was a fluke situation; it should not have mattered because of the massive difference in level. The two goals T&T scored were a ridiculous shot from 40 yards that its crazy Howard didn't make a save. And the second one which was a fluke own goal off Omar Gonzalez clearance that looped back to the goal. And on top of that a phantom goal in another qualifier put Honduras through. Going into that last game the chances that the US would fail to qualify was something like 1-2% and would take a series of strange results and that is what happened. Still when you control your own fate you have to come through and not worry what else is going on. I couldn't believe GGG was looking to Bolivia to save the US.

    • @Beefski
      @Beefski 3 місяці тому

      @@psu2dcu I agree about the Ghost goal that hurt the USA but our players were too tired to show up and they took T&T too easy with no drive to finish that game. I remember Jozy missed a shot that he hit with no real intent and then the next game in Toronto FC he has the same position and shot and drives the shot into the goal with real malice, And I just yelled out load yes that is what we needed against T&T where was that just a few days earlier. We can never underestimate our opponents and think we will get better throughout the tournament. Max mentioned that the team said that they were not training hard for Copa America----What??? That is on the coach and staff.

    I think the problem is, the USA team has a lack of depth in a few positions, especially the defensive positions. So the players are getting too comfortable, knowing that they don't really have to fight for their position on the roster. Since most of our players have known each other since they were teenagers, they probably see the tournaments like summer camps where they get to hang out with friends. There is definitely a lack of maturity on this team. When I watch this team play, it sometimes seems like I am watching youth players. It's obvious that the players like GB because they know they are able to control him. It's like when kids have a favorite teacher in school because he is chill and let's them watch movies in class. My problem wasn't that GB was including MLS players in the roster, it was that the players he picked, were not the best players in MLS. It seemed like he showed favoritism to certain MLS players. I don't have a problem with the next manager using MLS players. I just want them to be the best American players in MLS.

  • @sacpasse87
    @sacpasse87 3 місяці тому +1

    The reason we lost was not a lack of MLS players who've proven over and over again theyre not good enough in big moments. Zimmerman gifted a PK to Wales in the World Cup and Acosta almost gifted a goal with a giveaway in the same game. Roldan over his illustrious career has no goals and assists and his level was on full display during last summers Gold Cup and the Panama away WCQ for which there are compilations of his disaster class.
    If youre going to mention "experienced players", mention John Brooks who's actually played in a World Cup even scoring a winner. He's by far the best passer outta the back in our pool and that would have been needed as no one offers what he does. No CB 's defense has been good enough to justify his continued omission from the roster.
    The reason for this failure, which you pointed out is that the players have become too comfortable and complacent under GGG. It's as if once you learn his complex system, you're in. And when you're out you're out with no way back in like John Brooks or even Steffen whom I'm surprised you've omitted now that he's in MLS. Can we say Turner is better now that his competition has been exiled.
    It's also a feature of his teams to make silly errors in big moments and this goes back to WCQ and the WC itself ball watching, failing to track runners, trying to PoB instead of clearing, silly fouls that cut our momentum and so many more.
    In closing, to say the reason why the USMNT failed this summer was because a lack of MLS players and that we didnt have a guy line Roldan pushing Reyna for minutes is at best oversimplistic and at worse cheap MLS propaganda. The reasons are myriad and the current crop of players are at fault, especially Weah for his meltdown, Mckennie for being fat and so on. But all of this starts at the top and it's not like we can replace the players so a change at the top is in order. Next coach should be a disciplinarian that strikes the fear of God into these spoiled princelings.

Avoiding impropriety as well as the appearance of impropriety is just as important. he didn't have the credentials for the job, these things don't inspire confidence in a fan base. Sure they didnt create enough but they were playing a very good team, how much did England create VS Slovakia? How much did Portugal create against Slovenia? Uruguay had the better stats by a small margin, the play on the field to me showed a 50-50 game with a tourney favorite. Max, have you ever wondered how the USSF let a quality coach like Jesse Marsch slip thorough its ranks?. Can you imagine the USMNT having him as their coach? I think the USNMT would've progressed a lot further. Sad to say, the USSF's loss is Canada's gain because they made history in the Copa America. Whether or not they make it to the semi final of the Copa America, in my humble opinion, it is a success, even though it is a small step. I really believe that under Jesse Marsch, Canada is going to get better and be well prepared for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Playing against world class opponents like France, Netherlands, and Argentina will only make Canada stronger, and the experiences they get will be very valuable down the road. And more importantly, they are learning how to win.
    When you think about it, Canada and the United States are on the same level as they both want to get better in soccer on the world stage. The problem,, however, and it is ironic, that we have an American coach that is going to bring the best out of the Canadian players, and showing them how to win. It will take a while but it will bear fruit down the road.
    Sadly, the USMNT have a coach that's going to make things worse by accepting mediocrity. and if changes aren't made very soon, American soccer is going to suffer, and lose the hard-won respect it has gained both at home and abroad.

    @jonathonedwardmiller 3 місяці тому +1

    Points made:
    1. Nobody was right about the US situation. False. I, and many others, were warning people for 6 months since the draw went out. You can claim something as true, doesn't make it. We've been warning people about this since BEFORE he was rehired.
    2. This is not a golden generation. Again, false. In terms of pure talent, this is 100% our best group of players. Just because they're not playing at that level for country doesn't change the fact. This is NOT the best performing group but it is the most talented. Alabama was the most talented team in CFB last year but MICHIGAN won the natty and beat Alabama to do it.
    3. We can't be naive to put all the blame on Gregg Berhalter. You're either making up a scenario in which fans are 100% blaming the coach or you're not informed. Either way, it's a wrong point. EVERYBODY who is mad at Berhalter is also mad at the players. Yes, the players deserve blame for carrying out a terrible mentality throughout this tournament.
    4. Why would you play a team without experience. Ah yes, the MLS shills favorite argument! Are you seriously trying to tell me if Gregg started Shaq Moore and Miles Robinson and had more MLS players against Panama, they would've won that game? That "experienced" team argument doesn't work when that "experienced" team lost to Panama in the semifinals of the Gold Cup. But let's grant your experience: where is Lennard Maloney? Why is de la Torre not getting minutes in this tournament? Why did Sargent not get minutes? Where's JOHN BROOKS? Where's AUSTON TRUSTY? Does their experience not count in your opinion over MLS experience? Experience only matters if the experience is quality. If the experience isn't quality, it's dead roster spots. On top of that, you started off by saying these players are entering their prime.
    5. Jurgen Klopp might've played MLS players in this tournament. Stop it Max. You have no clue what he would've done. Every coach has a different vision for the player pool. That's MLS shill bullshit.
    6. We had players (Turner, Ream, Reyna, Pepi, Musah, Balogun, McKennie, Weah) not playing tons of minutes for clubs. We need guys playing for clubs. Ok, who would you rather have over those guys? Name me better options rn than those guys who are playing for clubs by your standards. And btw, when Pulisic or Dest weren't playing for their clubs AT ALL, were you on here trying to ask for Gregg and US Soccer to start Jordan Morris or Shaq Moore or Paul Arriola over Pulisic and Dest bc they were starting for club? I don't think so.
    7. Former generations were always the guy. Cool. When the previous group came back to MLS, the USMNT didn't qualify for the World Cup even though they were all the guys on their teams. You're gonna need to explain why that was in order to make that argument for the future.
    8. You would've brought Long, Roldan and Zimmerman? Do you HONESTLY think those players are better quality and put us in a better spot to win than fucking Malik Tillman (who didn't even play), Gio Reyna (who you said is the 2nd most talented player in this pool), McKennie, Johnny (who had an amazing half season at Real Betis), Chris Richards, Tim Ream? If you do, I don't know what to fucking tell you.
    9. I don't understand why you think we are toxic when Long and biased towards Richards and CCV when they make mistakes. If you would unblock me on Twitter, or read my comments and respond to me instead of hiding, you would know that I was not happy AT ALL with either of their performances. But that doesn't mean Long and Zimmerman would be better.
    10. I think a new coach is going to come in and not play players if they're not starting for clubs. Are you implying he'll turn to MLS players? That's not how this works. Players like Reyna would be more likely in a situation like that to find a club that will start him and figure his shit out. We agree players should be playing for clubs. But the problem is that Gregg Berhalter doesn't give incentive to make that happen. He plays the players anyway instead of sitting down and caring about their future. A disciplinarian coach still wants the best for their pool and will push them to be their best selves.

    1.Win with 10 men vs Guatemala, in Qualifiers.
    2. Not lose less men like example: draw with mexico, at Aztec 1997. Italy at the World Cup 2006.

    I know certain MLS players like Jordan Morris have become a meme to USMNT fans. However one advantage MLS gives us is we have players in mid-season form. The whole USA squad was on their off-season and I guarantee you GGG enabled the weak mentality to permeate thru the camp. I guarantee you a couple of MLS guys brought in to camp simply to kick the shit out of guys dogging it in training would eliminate our careless approach to this tournamant. It doesnt take an insider to recognize Weston McKinnie didnt give a shit about this tournament. CCV shouldnt get a free pass to the national team because he plays for Celtic. Celtic are a fucking joke nowadays and they play maybe 2 meaningful games a year. Pepi content with riding pine in Holland shouldnt be rewarded.

    You know what, I think you touch a point not many people realized. Everyone is caught up in how bad Berhalter is and how his line up affected negatively the USMNT performance but in reality is just one aspect of the failure.
    Honestly we all have failed into the false premise that as long as we get European based players we are good.
    In reality how good is that our entire line up plays in Europe but don’t get significant meaningful minutes?
    Turner and Horwath would have been a lot more sharp if they were playing here in MLS than sitting on the bench in Europe.
    I guess there is a reason why Pepi and Reyna can’t get minutes in their respective clubs. Also, why is it Reyna is entitled as starter in the National Team? Against Bolivia he was non existent and was against the worst weakest team in the tournament.
    Klopp, Mourinho or any top European coach would have NOT play Gio or Weah because they are not getting minutes and in good competitions like Copa America it shows.
    Gregg Should go but players shouldn’t get a pass either.
    If we are really think ourselves as a serious soccer nation we should hold coaches, players and the Federation accountable. Fans also, we can’t tell and scream how backwards we are compared to Europe and demand high paying coaches while our USMNT plays away in our own country. 🤌🤌🤌

    INDIVIDUALLY, the USMNT is composed of the most talented players the US has ever produced. That's just a fact. Technically and athletically speaking...they ARE. They've been coached to be soft. They play soft. When adversity hits, they aren't capable of over-coming it. They need to grow the fuck up! They play for European clubs for crying out loud! Maybe this is why many of them are bench riding over there?
