With this bike you can really see where Francisco Bulto got alot of his design ideas to start Bultaco. Bulto was a director at Montesa and left to start his own company.
I worked at a Montesa dealership and the owner got one of these in for himself. All the guys around the shop ended up riding it. When these were new, they were so tight it took forever to get them broke in. So we all rode it to get some miles on it. They were also geared pretty high for what they were intended.
My first wife rode a modified 1970 Bultaco 125 Lobito (with a 175 jug and refitted Mikuni carb) through the woods trails and roads of northern lower Michigan. The sound of this Montesa is really close to her bike's noise from fifty years ago.
Remember when these turned up. People were riding BSA bushman's. Villiers. James. Then zing zing zing. The first Cota's soon followed. They really did change everything. VIVA Montessa ;-)
You're hitting home with me! At one time, somewhere around this year, my family lived in the apartment above a Montesa dealer here in SE Ohio. I'll have to see what other bikes familiar to me you've featured. I remember when their trials bike first came out.
That's my favorite bike to cruise around the business park on after most people have gone home! It's just a hoot of a bike. So, for those of you watching, Billy actually found this bike for sale and offered it up to me a few years ago. I think this was during, what I lovingly refer to as, the OSSA Four-Fecta sale. Billy did a deal with a guy for my four OSSA's (two MAR's and two Pioneers, all in questionable condition), and I wound up with this totally original Montesa out of the deal....give or take. Fast forward a few years, and I've had a chance to tidy up (and it did need some tidying) this good 'ole Montesa Scorpion into what you had a chance to watch here. I don't think this bike has very much time on it, except for leaning against someone's garage in their backyard for many years. It certainly has a "weathered" patina to it, but it's not a complete roach. It's too nice for me to restore, and it's so much fun to ride, I think it will just stay like it is. Though I did get a new Valance and Tool box/Tool Box door and lock for it. Glad you had a fun time riding it around Billy! Looking forward to your next one!
@@matthewfreschi1738 I suspect that the exhaust on the Scorpion is full of un-burned two-stroke oil, and as the bike only gets ridden every now and then, it smoke's more than it probably should as the pipe gets heated up.
Thanks Allen.... I have a Scorpion as well well. Motor was just completely rebuilt and it has a new pipe. It smokes just like yours ...maybe worse. I’m wondering if a seal failed somehow. Anyway thanks
Beautiful patina and completeness of parts! In the still photos I saw a bright yellow (1970?) Suzuki Savage. Back in the day, my mom bought one just like it from New England Cycle Sales. Her favorite color!
My first bike bought it from westminster sport cycle it was great bike had separate gear box from cluchwhitch had atf fluid only real problem was a soft ride rear hub .had rubber inserts in the hub had shafts that bolted to the sprocket awalys had to replace the bushing shaft before going out for a weaken ride but awalys started carry light compared to my buddy's 250 b s a thanks for the veido
I have one of those. I think they came out in 66. The Bultaco Matador 200 came out in 64, which was earlier, and before that there were a number of street legal Greeves with 2-stroke Villiers
Love your videos! However, the Bultaco Matador 200 was available in 1964, pre-dating the Scorpion, and Greeves had the 24 TFS Scottish as well. Either way though, all great bikes, and Sr. Bulto was an ex-Montessa employee!!
HELLO ! YEARS A GO I HAVE HUSKY SILVERPILEN 175 1964 ENDURO THREE SPEED FUNNY BIKE PS: YOU MAKE REALLY GGOD VIDEOS AND BIKES ! BUT WHEN ENGINES RUNNING WHO NEEDS MUSIC THEN ? TROUBLEFREE MILES !
Husqvarna had a 250 Enduro model in 1965.
Got recommended by the classic motorcycle channel and now you have a new subscriber in France. Love your reviews!

Indeed! Love Mr Bulto!
Greaves had 2-stroke dual purpose bikes in 1960 that I’m aware of. Love Montesa though.
Thanks for watching Erwin! Do you know the model name of the Greeves by chance?

Easily my favourite YT channel at the mo. Makes me want to get out and ride right now.
What a compliment! Thank you so much. One of the benefits of this show is that it guarantees I get to ride a vintage bike every week!

So great! Can't wait to cover the Montesa Trails era in the future!
That is a very cool old bike. The Montessas look like they were well built . Thanks for another great video .
My pleasure! Thanks so much for watching!
Awesome ! Cheers from the east coast of Canada !
Cheers! Thanks so much for watching over there!

You’re the BEST for letting me borrow these incredible bikes so we can share them with the world Allen! 🙏

I’m curious as to why the Scorpion puts out so much smoke? I watched the episode with the Diablo and it put out very little

Hello great movie very nice filmed ;)
Thank you very much!
Maico M250B or S, they had up pipes and were clearly meant for some on and off road action earlier than '66
My first motorcycle was a Lacross. I had fun with it!

Going back even older, look up the Zundapp 200 Enduro, which I think came out in 1952. It was a dualsport version of the DB202

Good stuff I just discovered your channel. My first video I watch was on the KT-250 I bought a leftover 76 in 1978 for $700 out the door
DKW singles from 1930s had twin ports
Ya seemed to be a thing in the 30's - I've got a 1930 British twin port lined up for Season 2!
What about the 1964 Hodaka Ace?
Smoke 🚬 & a beer 🍺 👍
Cheers!
Loved mine. Poor lighting with just a magneto. VIVA MONTESA.
Big jump from second to third
Bultaco matador any one?
Oh yeah!
