  • This Easter weekend, we took on our Doing it ourselves renovation project with gusto! Armed with a digger and a dumper truck, we dived headfirst into the task. From digging trenches for pipes to creating a massive hole for a rainwater soakaway, we've been putting in the sweat and effort to transform our space. It's been exhausting, but every bit of hard work brings us closer to our renovation goals.
Join us on this journey of Doing it Ourselves as we share the highs and lows of our project. From the challenges we faced to the triumphs we celebrate, it's all part of the DIY adventure.

Greetings from Indiana !! You need to pat each other on the back for a job well done! Though it looks like a lot more to do ... one day at a time! I think we all have on going projects to do being DIYers . Keep Calm and Carry On . Blessings Paula

I love your optimism 'it's all going to look lovely'! Have you noticed that the soil from the ground seems to double in size once you removed it? You had a very tight space to work in overall. When you get a grab truck to take away all the surplus material it will look so much bigger. You both have worked so hard to get to this stage. Well done both of you.

To think, one of the reasons we moved to Starre Corner is because Rowan wanted a garden - poor Poppet, we've wrecked it 🤣

Hi Louisa, I've heard that you can burn the old tree trunks from the inside, save the ash for your garden.. check with someone who has experience in this.. maybe an old farmer? Just a thought. Love your progress!

This will be so nice even if you do half of what you want to do. I know I would be so excited to get rid of the rubbish to see progress. Something finished will be so nice. It would make me so happy to have a clear area. I hope Mark has success.

You have achieved so much. Love that little robin. I'm currently working on my allotment. Any digging and the robin appears from nowhere to fish out the worms. 🌼🌻🌼

Make sure you slope the soil correctly. It should be higher by the house and not lower. Water will run towards the house if lower. Not good.

This is not a criticism but I am wondering why removal of all the broken piled up old parts around the perimeter were not removed first? It just looks like a lot in your way.

Well done to both of you. Such hard work and it is easy to not factor in how your energy levels will drop over the course of the project. Have been there with the dumper truck and the digger and know what it is like, especially when you are on a time limit with the equipment hire and at the mercy of the weather conditions. You must be so pleased to see the changes happening. Lottie x

I have an impression that you are making even bigger mess than before.Such a lot unnesesery rubbish everywhere.Don't buy more items for now.Just paint your kitchen wall temporary.Even for few month.Any color.Just for tidy and make more calm.
Love your hair and earings! You look great in this mess.

There's a phrase - things have to get worse before they can get better. I feel maybe you don't appreciate the vision we have and the project that we are undertaking.I am assuming you have never undertaken a large scale DIY renovation. I am sharing a realistic overview of renovation living - warts and all. The unnecessary rubbish as you call it is mostly reclaimed and salvaged materials which we have collected for the renovation. I don't believe you can see what a warm and cosy home we have created. even amid a renovation. Juggling renovation living with family life can be tricky but I think we have got the balance just right. The main thing is that my family feel.comfortable and that we are still getting on with the renovation task in hand.
