  • Adam adds to his LEGO-themed armory with this replica of Han Solo's DL-44 blaster, built entirely of LEGO bricks. We found these fan-designed kits online, and talk through the build to show some of the clever ways the pieces are assembled to resemble the parts of the iconic Star Wars blaster.

    Adam is amazing, a great host. Having watched the "new" mythbusters I realized that it was a project that only worked because of Adam(and to some degree Jamie as he was a good counter balance). They just can't do the same thing again because it's is so hard to find someone that feels so genuine like Adam in front of a camera - without having someone acting or going over the top.

    • @kevingriffith6011

      For a build this complex, my money would be on the knollers.... especially with all the 1x1 flats involved. 20 minutes up front vs about a minute for every piece in a 400 piece set.

    • @NotMyActualName_
      @NotMyActualName_ 6 років тому +3

      I dont' think 400 pieces is too bad if you can at least dump them all out flat on a table. if you're fishing them out of the bag, laying them neatly on the table is probably faster. I think some people just don't like their train of thought while building to get interrupted, so they knoll it all out first to avoid that. Personally i do a bit of both. I sort of pile things together according to size and shape, but not down to the individual pieces. Big pieces go in one area, small pieces in another, stuff that is obviously decorative or snap-on goes somewhere else. That's usually a good middle ground.

    The Atlanta Brick Co. in GA sells lego by the pound. They have purchased many lots of legos on ebay and elsewhere. They can also get large lots of brand new bricks but they cost a lot more. They also offer new sets, pre built sets and a bunch of custom sets. If you want to have an old lego set recreated from your childhood they can do that for you too. My kids saw it for the first time last Christmas. We spent a good couple of hours while my oldest put together a pound of lego for about $20.

    I've noticed after watching this video that in a lot of new movies, the guns don't have 'weight' to them. For whatever reason, you can obviously tell that Adam's DL-44 has a lot of heft and weight to it...
    Just look at the guns in A New Hope vs Force Awakens, the actors carry them differently because the weapons in A New Hope are 'real' in that they weigh a lot and fire blanks...

    • @DoitForTheLolz1
      @DoitForTheLolz1 6 років тому +1

      It all depends on the scene I think. Anytime the actors are holding rubber props its probably not so heavy, but like you say the ones that fire off blanks are heavy since they have actual firearm internals.

    • @ToaQuarax
      @ToaQuarax 6 років тому +1

      Well, I don't think they're using real blank-firing guns anymore. It's more airsoft and 3D-printed/custom-made stuff for the newer films. While some of the props are still made of metal, like Han's DL-44 (based on an airsoft HFC M712) and Rey's custom-made NN-14, they probably still don't weigh as much as real guns. A New Hope did have rubber/replica stunt props too, though. I believe Greedo's DT-12 was rubber (or some sort of cast plastic) and the E-11s were sometimes non-firing stunt props (I think the DLT-19s and RT-97Cs were also at times). Still, I can see what you mean in firing scenes; blank-firing weapons will obviously look more "real" than airsoft guns will.

    • @6.7snowdog
      @6.7snowdog 6 років тому

      Quarax of course they still use blanks mostly real guns converted to fire blanks to give realism, hans blaster was based off the Mauser C96 and most guns don’t weigh 30 pounds, rubber and other synthetic material guns are still used if they are gonna be in a holster or not shown in detail or not be fired.

    Just to clarify
    Instructions made with LEGO Digital Designer are actually generated by the program itself. These usually have a lot of flaws in them and are sometimes not in the correct order. You'll therefore see some builders who sell their own sets or instructions use programs like SR3D or LCAD and spend time handmaking each and every step and coming close or even matching the quality of the instructions of LEGO themselves
