- Now the US versions of the original attraction have closed, here is an edit that was six months in the making.
Start way back with the history of attempting to use a motion base as an attraction, then see the developing relationship between George Lucas and Michael Eisner. Follow the ride planning, with a full concept and construction section for both parks. See the Disneyland opening, and changes added over the years. Next see the original Disney-MGM exteriors and also changes made over the years. This is followed by a full tour of the Disney's Hollywood Studios exterior as it was before closing and a look at the differences to the preshow and boarding area layout. The take a full look at the Disneyland queue and preshow areas, again just before closing, shot by Chris Bales.
Next is the full multi camera, mostly tripod shot preshow in both the lower and upper rooms. All droids, Starspeeder effects, video wall, details, everything -- both the R2D2/C3P0 and GT-4T and GT-9T preshows are shown in full from multiple angles, with source audio. Wander through the line taking in the details, arrive at load and watch the overhead monitor as your flight to the moon of Endor is prepared, followed by the safety video -- again tripod shot with source audio. Next walk into your speeder for a split screen full ride using source ride film and incabin coverage of REX, the side video screen and the in-cabin effects. This is set to a new stereo source mix of the ride audio, remixed to bring the score forward more and with added incabin audio effects to sound just like the attraction did.
Finally, exit the Disneyland ride and walk into the store, then exit the Orlando version and walk into the store too. Finally, take a look at both closed attractions as the adventure gets ready to continue.

I got some sad news for everyone: Paul Reubens has just passed away. Here to pay my respects to him for his phenomenal work, including for being the voice of Captain RX-24 on Star Tours (he's now at the Cantina in Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge), and probably most famously, Peewee Herman. Thank you Paul Reubens and may the Force be with you! (1952-2023)

i rember. Have been there 1996. Ticket cost 150 US$ PER PERSON for just 3 days! 0.0 and it took mostly hours to get a ride! Lucky I had a Game Boy! =)
@@IngoPagels and now it's almost 200$ for a day/2 parcs (French price ) and for 2 days for 3 at disney hotels it's a month of salary* (of course depend of salary but its 1500$ 2 days/hotels/2parc/foods ect..) ! miss the 90s....
Watching this brought me back to my childhood. I was there the summer of 1987, and remember all of my first impressions walking through, and riding on Star Tours. I never thought I would see any of this again. This is an amazing video. Watching this, and feeling like a kid again, if even only for a half hour, was an wonderful gift. Thank you.

I still remember that little robot asking me to take him home back in 1987. Oh, how I wanted too. The line was long and slow, but "G2-9T" made the time pass faster.

I just want to say thank you for showing the star tours ride from 1987 to 2010 it brings back old memory the last time I rode this ride in 1993 and 2010 with my cousin and this girlfriend before they closed it down. I am going to miss this ride so much it looks more real like the star wars movie and I went to Disneyland in 2011 and rode the new star tours 2 it sucks hate the new version bring back the old star tours ride because now this days everything now they over do it to much and goodbye old star tours thank you once again for the great memories you bring may rest in peace old star tours.
45:55 .... Note the wall to the left of the droid (G2-4T). It was a grid made up of square piezo-electric crystals or glass panels that would change from opaque to transparent when an electric charge was applied to or removed from them. They were continuously blinking in different patterns. Today it's called "Smart Glass" but back then the "smart" moniker was not used for electronics.
The last time I rode the original Star Tours in '92 they were no longer functioning and the panels were all opaque.

I wish they did not make it 3d.....People do not wear 3d glasses when traveling! Great video BTW. Reminds me of when Tomorrowland was about the future! All hail Monsanto! They need to bring back Pee-Wee Herman...but make him reprise the role of the robot from FoN. That would be a cool cross-over haha!

Since c3p0 is a huge part of the new version, they should bring Rex the robot back where the animatronic c3p0 stands and talks to r2. They should have Paul rubens return to voice the iconic droid.

Hello, i am strongly considering making a VR recreation of the original Star Tours attraction within VRChat. If i do go through with these plans, i would like to request permission to use some video and audio from this tribute, and anything else that i may be able to find, to make the re-creation as immersive and accurate as possible. I hope to include the queue line, with as much of its dialogue as possible, as well as the ride itself.

Another reason the MGM Studios vetsion was delayed was because of MetLife's request to do so due to Body Wars (which had the same motion simulator as Star Tours) being opened at Epcot Center's Wonders of Life.

I never rode the original Star Tours, but I love RX-24! They should really bring him back! As for the original ride scene, nah, they should simply replace C-3PO with RX-24, and keep the new scenes.

Great tribute as always but I wish you would've stayed with the shaky wide shot with Rex in the cockpit more as it's much more thrilling than the blurry static one with the video in the middle.

Star tours and star wars didn’t use a lot of reflective metal. It’s not that they didn’t want to, it’s because light reflections ruined scale.
