Kale - & everyone - HAPPY THANKSGIVING - I am laughing a bit - not that I grew up with with rotary dial and party line (shhh - time & age is relative). What makes me laugh most is when I wound up doing VoIP at a client site (not very long ago) - in walked Ruth Ann Buzzi -- all I could do was laugh and say "Are you the party to whom I'm not speaking" ... some did not get it .. keep up the fun stuff :) [bob]
We had a rotary phone when I was a kid but we also had a touchtone phone. Nobody ever wanted to use the rotary cuz it took too long. Ha ha. Great story.
I love how you re imagism and repurpose stuff and if actually works!! Sounds so cool with your keyboard and imagine even the flowerpot worked. Love it. When my dad died and I cleaned out his house I took the same phone and i actually use it as a phone. But if ever it breaks I will be sure to save that part. Very cool!!
From you way you've talked about your dad (in the couple comments I've seen), it seems like he meant a lot to you. Maybe I'm reading too much into it but that's just a feeling I get. Anyway, the rotary dial was a happy accident of sorts buy hey... that's what experimenting is all about.
@@musicalmiscellany nope you hit the nail on the head. We were always close but after my mom died we had 4 years where we really got close. Miss them both. But mom was almost 6 years ago and dad just a year and a half
@@MariaCalfaDePaul Well I'm terribly sorry for the loss. I don't know the circumstances and I'm not going to ask but just remember this Dr Seuss quote as the holidays draw neigh... "Don't cry because it's over, smile because it happened."
@@musicalmiscellany yes that is a lovely expression ! And he was almost 94 so I know he lived a long life. But you know it's never a good time to lose your parents ! 😩😔
@@MariaCalfaDePaul Luckily I haven't' been through that yet but I know it's going to be bad when it happens. As hard as it is to accept, it's perfectly natural for a daughter or son to bury their parents. The inverse is a tragedy we'd never wish upon anyone. 3 out of my 4 grandparents were in their 90s when they passed so I get your sentiment. It's hard to be sad about a good long life. We cry for us not them.
Have you ever tried using a push button keypad from a phone as a controlled or trigger? I have one from a discarded phone and looking for ideas (I'm new to a lot of this).
I haven't tried that. I would think it would be doable but I am not familiar with the circuit at all. You'd need a power source and should be able to use the touchtones as voltage outputs. It would be a cool project.
@musicalmiscellany is there any chance I could message you? Send pics of what I got so far? I made an old rotary phone into xlr, but am confused about how to incorporate the carbon mic, I bought a switch and components, just the cables in here are confusing
Not me having watched this on thanksgiving thats so awesome haha
LOL. It's a time machine. Thanks for checking it out.

Way cool Kale. You are a magician.
Ha ha. Thanks Dave.
Wow, very impressive! I will never understand all the electrical stuff, but I love the outcome :D
Thanks Molly. This one is actually a really simple circuit but yes... it can be intimidating if you're not into electronics and such.

I’ve been trying to find one for this project.
You can find them on eBay but they tend to cost a little more. Check some thrift stores. Sometimes rotary phones show up there.
very cool
Thanks. It's a really easy project.

I have one of these old phones and parts, anyone got tips on how to wire the carbon mic?
Thanks for checking it out. As a matter of fact... ua-cam.com/video/pb-Lu2kzKYc/v-deo.html
@musicalmiscellany you do all this stuff by yourself don't yah?
@@DisturbedDante Pretty much. I'm a one man show.

H'm. That's interesting!
Super low tech but it works.
