Actually all land based meats are higher in fat (and the type that fish have a harder time digesting) no matter how 'lean' they are for human consumption. Natural Fish oils can be digested with no problem as long as the fish isn't soaked in oil. Whitefish, mussels, popcorn shrimp, clams, oysters, crab, most any fish filet for protein are all good. But I would steer clear of chicken and beef...lots of "healthy looking" fish go belly up with no explanation from diet. Land based meats cause fatty liver disease over time.

+Tobias Lyh hey! Yes I've seen some people cooking the food before mixing them all together. I think it would be fine but I like to feed my fish in their natural form - meaning in the wild, animals wouldn't necessarily have access to cooked food. hope this helps!
i would mix the gelatin with room temperature or light cold water this just make the Gelatin dissolve better and faster then you can boil.

Could you use beets to enhance a fishes red colour?
Carrot or red sweet pepper/capsicum are vegetables that are good for fish and enhancing red. Brine shrimp and freeze dried shrimp (often best soaked before feeding this) are great at enhancing red. Also adding a small amount of paprika is suppose to help enhance red and spirulina is suppose to enhance blues and greens in fish. I have never heard of anyone feeding beets to their fish and I don't know if they are okay to feed or not.

+joseph cuschieri Hi! Gelatine is a very commonly used ingredient for fish gel food. It is also safe for human consumption. Since we use so little amount of it in such a big batch of food, I really wouldn't worry about it. If you are uncomfortable with using gelatine, you can use more eggs to help with binding and then freeze the gel food, but the food might fall apart in water.

Yes on the bill when you go buy it. Tuna is too fat.

TheBlueFox you can also feed them with egg yolk (crushed).. if you had a great amount of yolk you can store it in a fridge for later use
Almost none of these ingredients would be available to them in nature. Fish actually eat mostly plant matter. When would a fish ever eat a chicken? 😂
