Title: The Man Who Travelled to the Underworld to Find His Lost Love
#greekmythology #mythology #orpheus
in one version of the tale it said, Eurydice was following Orpheus close behind on their way back out of the Underworld, but Orpheus stopped hearing Eurydice's footsteps behind him. Thinking she was lost behind or Orpheus was tricked, he turned around to check to see if Eurydice was still there & He made eye contact with her as she was still there following him the whole time.
could've just said " ay! you still behind me?"
That sounds like an edited version they use for American public schools.
@@canaisyoung3601 LOLLLL😂 IT TOTALLY DOES😂😂😂
"Remember Orpheus, no matter what don't look back."
*looks back*
"What was that honey?"
Orpheus you had one job.
😆
😂😂
No!! He had 3jobs. Go get her from hell and bring her back to earth, without looking behind at her until they get back to earth.
😭😭😭😭
-walks back to the surface, but doesn’t hear footsteps
-turns back to see if she’s there
* “I’m dead, I don’t have footsteps.. dumbass” *
-see’s her fly back down
😂 💀
I thought it was that he had emerged from the underworld, but when he turned around he discovered that she hadn't quite exited the cave yet.
Welcome to Mythology, where there is never just one set version...
Obsessing over the past is how we lose the present.
Can’t loose what you don’t have.
@@animalia5554 can’t have what you don’t look for
I'm in love with Persephone.😍❤❤❤
Music holds the keys to so many godly & ungodly things, lololol! 💜🌍
Hello Sarah 👋👋 how're you doing? Have a blessed 🙏 day. Hope to hear from you soon.
tragedy at its finest
Like Marvel Loki said “You had one job! Just the ONE!” 😂😂
Also I love these short vids because other vids I love, but I have to make time for them because of how long they are! Nevertheless I still enjoy them with all the knowledge and comedy that goes into it👏👏
His hair has "cornrows" like NBA hall of famer Allen Iverson🤣
Good stuff!
Why do they always have to turn back???
Fascinating story. Thank you for this
you should do one on King solomon and his demons.
The film Shining Through with Michael Douglas, great plotline.
I'm sure they got back together when he joined her.
The myths do not indicate what happened upon Orpheus' death. The myth does suggest that Orpheus 'lost' his sense of good performance after losing to Hades.
❤ all your video's mate 👍.
Ur channel is so fascinating!! I absolutely ❤️ it! Been binge watching lol u do a great job narrating. Definitely keep the videos coming
Sorry if you didn’t get my comment a little while ago, I tried to ask you if you have told the story of Kaguya, and if you haven’t please tell it. I’m quite fond of that story.☺️
kaguya otsutsuki.
@@rizkyadiyanto7922 I’m not talking about Naruto.
Hello Denise 👋👋 how're you doing? Have a blessed 🙏 day. Hope to hear from you soon.
@@dennishogan2415 I’m not sure who you are.
I don't like tragedy and hearbreak💔
You definitely are researching the wrong topic then. Greek mythology is full of it lmao
Jeez, they always got to put a crappy stipulation on everything.
Heard this story from a scene in a movie Portrait of a Lady on Fire, greatly embodies the movie, highly recommended.
They said don't turn around you could have just talked to her
Hello Rebecca👋👋 how're you doing? Have a blessed 🙏 day. Hope to hear from you soon.
Dantes inferno?
At least he didn't turn into a pillar of salt..
lots wife
This very interesting article
“Wait for me, I’m coming too, I’m coming too.”
See u In History can you do a video about Greek God of Medicine Asclepius i have seen it in some page that snakes were sacred to him
Well damn
The Japanese version is more intense with her becoming a rotten corpse and swearing revenge as mother of monsters
Well that was depressing
Can you cover the other guy called Dante? You haven't finished that series.
Reminds me of the ending of Sodom and gamora
Is Dante's Paradiso comming?
Isn’t there a version of the myth where he turns back because his wife thought he wasn’t looking at her due to no longer loving her?
Right. But what does it all mean?
This is almost similar to izanagi is it not?? Or izanami something I read way back am not sure
If Orpheus was in the Middle East, he would have turned into a pillar of salt for looking back.
Nice.
My ex fiancee killed herself. I dont know what it means of suicide, but if I must, I'd travel the Styx for her. If I just knew how
holy shit
My husband would cry, but be married a year later.. LOL. We take “till death do you part” seriously. Why vow & give your word if not to keep it?
I still don’t understand if there was a lesson to learn here, I’ve heard this tale so many times now but unlike most other Greek mythology tales, this one seems like it doesn’t have anything to teach? Idk.
There are a quite a few lessons actually but a few are:
The value of patience
One should believe in some sort of higher morality
Pay attention to the task at hand
If you want to be with someone, have faith that they will stick by your side.
Women ain’t sh!t
👍🏻
That's Harsh!
Is there anyone who makes it out of the underworld?
Herkules
@@leonidas6313 I need to brush up on his real story. Thanks for this 😊

Hello Nancy👋👋 how're you doing? Have a blessed 🙏 day. Hope to hear from you soon.
Question....how can greek characters go to Hades' realm like it's just next in their neighborhood?
I remember that in the Odyssey, Circe tells Odysseus that he must travel to an entrance to the underworld in order to commune with the dead, so to answer your question, there were phisical entrances to the underworld, but I'm guessing their location was not known by most people, otherwise people would have visited more often.
I’m gonna say greeks were were very fond of mystic rituals and Hades was very associated with caves, so 1+1=2 and there should be sacred caves considered entrances to the Hades in ancient Greece, but I’m pretty much guessing.
This shit made me laugh
Because Greek myth is quite literal about many things
The Underworld is literally UNDER the world, it's underground
You can physically walk there from the surface
The River Styx
And later would sing awesome music for the king and queen of the underworld.
Once Upon A Time There Was a Railroad Track
Any Fried Green Tomatoes in this story?
😂😉
Another excellent mythology video thanks dude!🙂👍
I remember this. ! It was a documentary
when first I watched this video I was like ".... wasn't the couple supposed to be gods?" and then the fantasy nerd in me went "wrong mythology my dude..." :-D
fine video as always, thank you for your content!
When you're stupid enough not to follow instructions.
Then he was eaten, and his head was nearly destroyed by the French revolutionaries
Atlas....caaaaaan reeeeest his weary bones.
It is also said by many (including the other deities) that it was Hades most unfair deception. In the version of the story I've heard had the lovers only walked another 30 feet to be fully out and away from the shadow of the cave Eurydice and Orpheus would have been reunited.
Struggling to see the so called "deception"... Hades gave a clear cut instruction; "Don't look book until you reach the exit!" Seems straight forward to me, NOT at all a deception. 🤦🏻♀️
@@thehellenicneopagan Yeah, mythologically speaking, hades generally seems to be depicted as a fairer god than the other Olympians (like when he let Hercules take Cerberus back for his labour, if he could wrestle the dog into submission) which to be fair doesn't say much given his pantheons track record XD
My point exactly... He usually sets up some conditions to be met which don't seem at all unreasonable.
Exactly. Orpheus knew that if Hades was true or not, he (Orpheus) could not enter the Underworld a second time either way. So the "instruction" of Hades to not look back could've been just a way to get rid of him from his lands, so Orpheus had his reason to doubt.
That one scene in the Hadestown theatre play still echoes in my mind
This seems to happen a lot in Mythology
What dreams may come
Such a sad story ....
Why do we build the wall?
He’s a bonehead
He had one job!
👍
7 days to late
Lol own goal
Imagine somebody doing a retelling of this myth with Orpheus attempting to free the 27 club from Hell
Imagine if Orpheus did a cover of Oasis's Don't Look Back In Anger
Huh, wasn't expected a shorter video that summarizes the story like this. The animations sort of reminded me of Overly Sarcastic Productions too. So, all in all, this was a nice change of pace. I still like the usual videos more, but this is a good way to break up the monotony every once in a while too.
