Buck’s playing was soulful, tender, moving, and memorable. This music inside of him is beautiful. I would love a complete song. He touched my heart, your analysis touched my brain. Nice. Trailblazers who take risks are always different, special people. ❤️ 🌟
What a sad day for Buck. He has to lower himself to be on the "British Guitarist Reacts To Disney Channel Chord Progression" guy. Must feel like a sad sack of shit, but he made his money.
My favorite guitarist of all time. Couldn't be more pleased your premier episode featured Buck. The Symbol Remains is an amazing new release by Blue Oyster Cult. I bought 2 copies of it. (The cd player in my car has a habit of eating cd's on hot days. I should upgrade the stereo in there one of these days)
Wow. Wow. Wow!!!! Fil this was so good. Buck’s expression over the track was beautiful and then you did such a skillful dissection. You have absolutely changed the way that I listen to music Thank you for providing so much to so many. Thanks to Buck also.
@TNMoppyLaura Same here! I bought myself a pair of excellent headphones just to pick out the nuances and musical expressions he points out! Didn't believe I could love music anymore, but Fil proved me wrong!
What an awesome opener! I saw BOC in Seattle in the late 70's as a teenager... What fond nostalgic memories... Wow! He put together a very melodic incredible lead. Thank you!!
Thank you Buck and Fil for the beautiful solo and solo analysis. I feel like I'm in way over my head when I learn about all of these techniques! I guess it's always best to learn from the best! Thanks!
Buck is just fabulous. His solo was a happy melancholy, like he was remembering something wonderful that would never happen again. It was a touching journey. Fil, your analysis was so good. You truly are a teacher with a wonderful gift. You listen to the music, you break it down, you show technique and chords, but, you leave us with a joy of the artist and their talent. You really are amazing. I think this series is going to be a big hit.
Love this format in that you can isolate the technique as its being played. When I hear a band play it isn't that easy to isolate a technique but Fil you sort that out here as always.
Buck set the bar high. Probably not what most people would have expected from him. I like the backing track, which will allow for, I predict, vastly different solos. Can't wait.
Bravissimo Buck! Truly a lovely piece of music played with such feel and identity! Couldn’t wait to get home and see this Fil....Epic! Thank you to Fil for your informative analysis and demo! Cheers Mario! 😀👌🤘👏
Wow this is so incredibly interesting. I absolutely love Buck’s playing and will go out and get the rest of the BOC albums I don’t already have. Great analysis Fil!
The debut of a long anticipated adventure, thanks so much Fil and Buck for the journey. There will be many more roads to travel, many more sights to see. \m/
Beautiful and rich analysis, and Buck's playing was gorgeous. Congratulations on your concept for this series, Fil! I loved this premiere episode and can't wait for more!
Fil, This idea of yours, doing these different artists solos under the spotlight up close and personal and being able to review them is absolutely brilliant!! I loved the idea when you announced, but watching this first solo and watching you break down and review his solo is awesome! It's helpful to guitarist's wanting to learn and improve, and actually any musician can apply many of the dynamics changes and techniques discussed somehow on just about any instrument. This is just so great and I can't wait to watch the next...You Rock!
Loved this...glad to hear Donald...I mean Buck play . i feel like you can hear the influences from his jazz saxophonist father in his phrasing. Lovely..a wonderful explanation. Like this concept
Opening day for a long lived event. Happy to be here. It was 80F here in N. E. Ohio. The heat is on for your new brew and I/we love it. Hugs across the water!
Buck is one of the most underrated guitarists of the classic rock era, great vocals and songwriting chops to match...very cool to see him on the channel! 🤘😎
Thank you Fil for such a wonderful new format. Buck absolutely nailed it. And your dissection was spot on. I look forward to more under the spotlight videos. You struck gold with this mate.
Beautiful! Just wish it was longer. You have an ability to demonstrate and use such appropriate comparisons like "imagine your guitar is exhaling" or "creating relationship between the two runs...the sentence is being extended..." What a perfect way to describe what is happening. Thank you so much! If the first episode is any indication, this is going to be a HUGE Success!!! Can't wait to hear what the others do! Way to go, Fil!
And there we have it. I love the emotion on guitar players faces as they go through the process. I've seen Buck Dharma more than anyone else live thankfully
Thanks Buck and Fil! This first episode has not disappointed. Love the comment about not watching while listening. Closing your eyes changes the experience and the detail of music, and works while eating food too (like those dine-in-the-dark places). It also helps when playing. It's the reason so many visually impaired artists were so good at what they did and why the best close their eyes much of the time while playing. Can't wait for more! Cheers!
Wow, I wonder where Buck has been hiding this beautiful piece. I'm always hoping he'll drop a new archive collection for us to hear and have and cherish. No doubt such a creative person must be constantly composing beautiful things for the world. Wonderful! I can't believe I didn't see this for over 2 months!
Great video Fil. This is going to be a fantastic series. Buck has always chosen particularly unique phrasings when he composes leads, which are always aurally pleasing. I caught BOC in Memphis back in 1976, along with ZZTop, Skynyrd, and the Outlaws. Good times.
Congratulations 🎉🎊 on the new series! Enjoyed it thoroughly. Looking forward to seeing what's ahead for us all. Many thanks to Buck Dharma for doing this 👍🎶❤️
Congratulations on the new series ! Quite the solo with Buck on his headless guitar to be the opening act! He’s incredible ! Your analysis and demonstration were on point as always ! Thank Buck and Fil! 🎸🔥
I didn't expect it to be so PRETTY!! Bravo Buck! And compliments to the backing track chef for such a delicious chewy crust that he could layer his tasty toppings on!
There is a lot going on in this seemingly simple yet beautiful solo by Buck that could easily get missed without your analysis Fil. I especially liked your suggestion to listen again without watching to get the most out of the details in the solo. Congratulations on a very successful Episode 1!
Buck has long been a guitar hero of mine, for over 45 years...a monsterously, underrated signature style, jazz influenced, (his father was a jazz musician), including a distinctive, singular command with his melodic approach and dynamic sensibility. ☆ It's very rare to see him play a single coil/strat, in a live setting...this no ho-hum-Bucker‼️
I really like Buck's playing.A very nice solo. very nice melody. As you said a story with in composition.Very good.Thank you for this presentation.Keep up the the good work.Looking forward to more of your series.
Love the idea of this new series and it’s going to be a great ride. Can’t wait to see what all the others do. Buck’s bit is so mellow and almost narrative. You could do this for a long time with different backing tracks and artists. Super excited
Fantastic! I want to put Buck's solo on my playlist! Also intrigued by his headless guitar. Fil, I loved your tip to close your eyes and/or look away from the video and listen to the notes and subtle nuances. You are the best teacher, hands down. Terrific concept, Under the Spotlight is a keeper.👌👍🎸 Buck, awesome!
Buck's been playing a headless Steinberger for many years on stage. It's the white guitar behind him to our left, it's called the Cheeseberger due to the divits carved into it, making it look like swiss cheese.
Watched this on Patreon earlier today. What a treat! Buck was his usual fantastic self. You have hit this one outta' the ballpark,Fil! added: I have listened to this at least 4 times by now. Each time, picking up those unique nuances, notes and runs that Buck gives us. What a delicious gift of guitar mastery. It would be so wonderful to have the first season of your series on CD!!!(artist approval of course).
Bravo!!! Thank you Fil & Buck! I'm not going to say the "infamous" words associated with Blue Oyster Cult only because someone already beat me to it. 😁A Fil-tastic video and start of what I believe will be a long running series. 🤘🏻❤️✌🏻
The man continues to be a tremendous inspiration since I discovered him, and I appreciate your insightful analysis! Steve Morse is different but he'd also be great to see here. It might be a stretch but getting them to jam together again, even briefly, would be awesome. I don't subscribe to people on UA-cam, but I'm subscribing to this channel now. Cheers 🤌🏼
Very insightful tying together his singing with his playing. Buck has said he plays guitar more like a be-bop trumpeter. This is much different for him and he is so restrained. Loved that strained pinch harmonic near the very end. Always gives a little sumthin'-sumthin'.
Buck's father was a jazz musician...the connection was immediate for myself, starting on trumpet, in the early '70's...I love horns & jazz. He's so tasteful & melodic, a unique voice & signature style, which is what most players inspire to.
Buck Dharma plays in such an unpredictable way - he doesn't follow any set pattern - other than what he seems to hear and sense at the same time - thanks for sharing -
Great start to the series. I know very little of Blue Oyster Cult but based on this I’m going to give them a try - thanks for the intro, Fil! Beautiful melody and good dissection.
Took a bit to find it, but well worth the search! Great solo, Buck! Very fluid, soulful, and evocative! Saw BOC with Pat Travers some years back, in Florida, great show! Fil, great analysis and breakdown of Buck's playing. I like how you illustrate each point you make by showing it on guitar and showing how it's done, clearly and with an explanation why to do it that one way sounds better and makes more sense than another way, to add interest and depth to the solo. Nice including about the player's information, axe and rig set up, and other info. I look forward to the next one and more to come. Be cool to have David Gilmour on. Rock!
That was very interesting, enjoyable, and instructive. I have never attempted to learn to play guitar, after watching this "Under the Spotlight" piece, I wonder if I should give it a try. I saw Blue Oyster Cult live in concert while in college in the late 1970s, really enjoyed the concert.
Buck Dharma along with Frank Marino, Uli Roth and Al Dimeola are my all time favourite guitarists.... BOC's latest album is really good too... Buck is effortlessly awesome right from their first album.

Wow. Maybe you should get that GPS fixed so you don’t “accidentally” find yourself in a place with a lot of positive energy.
Be well. ann
i know I'm pretty off topic but does anybody know a good site to stream new tv shows online ?
@Krew Carson i would suggest flixzone. Just search on google for it :)
Buck, for me, is top ten all-time. His knack for melody and his monster songwriting ability are just paramount.
I totally agree with you. Buck makes the most complex playing appear effortless. He and Mick Ronson are my favorite guitarists.
Love, love, love how Buck told a story with music only. It brought me back in time. Truely his sound is unique to how he plays.

October 1975... Lane County Fairgrounds... Bob Seger opened for Blue Oyster Cult... I was there...
Fil, wow. Great start to a wonderful new program. I wish you great success.
A wonderful, bittersweet quality. He connected with me on an emotional level.
I wish he had played longer. Loved the velvety opening.
Love the new segment! I had the privilege of seeing Blue Oyster Cult in Albany, NY some years ago.
Thank you Buck and Fil for the beautiful solo and solo analysis. I feel like I'm in way over my head when I learn about all of these techniques! I guess it's always best to learn from the best! Thanks!

Buck was fantastic. I'm excited for this series, and I can't wait to hear what other guitarists bring.
Buck IS fantastic!
Wow, like a recipe where Mr D. brought some of his own unique ingredients to the mix - fabulous!
Thanks Fil and Buck Dharma was interesting as always. Keep rocking 😎
Loved this solo very much! A great beginning for Under the Spotlight!!!

I first caught them the following summer, on the Spectres Tour, with Utopia opening, borrowing BOC's legendary lasers.
WooHoo! Front and center. Not a bad seat in the room. 🤘
April S
With Fil you always get a good seat.
Thank you Fil and Buck!! Love this!!❤🙂
I really enjoyed this. I'm looking forward to more of them.

@@jasonjoyner6940 Hi Jason! Fancy meeting you here!
Well put, my dear!😉
Very pretty. When you don't want a song to end. Kept thinking something was in front of his guitar but that was the way it was built
Beautiful tone and melody from Buck, yet again. Fil, your videos are just great. Thanks for having my favorite guitarist on your show.
Interesting how when you get older you begin to see the beauty in the music...GREAT SHOW FIL❤️👏❤️
I see you got your hair cut 😀🤟🏼💇🏽♂️
Fil!
Congrats on the first episode of Under The Spotlight 🌟🔦🎸🌟 I really enjoyed it 😃
Buck Dharma did an excellent job and so did you 🖤🤘🏽
I’d have been happy to just hear Buck play this entire time, w o the long dissection . J m h o .
Huge fan of Buck. Legend .

Well done hon! I am so proud of you. This is certainly a feather in your cap. Solid teaching as well as inspiration.
Thanks!
Very nice Buck that sounded great good stuff Fil 👍👍✌🤘
Was able to see BOC 2× • One of the best live bands I have seen •
Great to see the accolades for Buck Dharma. Truly one of the best. Great job on the commentary also.

Very cool Fil. Really enjoyed the solo and your analysis. Should be an awesome series!
Well, that was fun! Good job Fil
Major thanks and props to Buck!
BUCK, what a fantastic analysis Fil,We sure appreciate your efforts and quality content thanks my friend for all! Luv&Peace Cheers Bro!👍🏻
This is going to be an interesting series Fil. Thanks for putting this idea together.
Very cool. Great job Fil on this new endeavor.
Really enjoyed this dude! You do a great job, thank you so much! Buck has not really got the recognition he deserves!

A really nice guitar piece; very melodic (not unnecessary "twiddling") with feel. Nice backing track Fil..really nice.
Buck is one of the best! Great choice.
One of my fave solos is the one on Mirrors Lonely Teardrops - just amazing - not blistering or anything just the feel
That guitar causes my heart and soul to dance like lovers
Great description!
Now, that short solo really needs to be filled out into a complete song. Damn, that was pretty!
Very insightful tying together his singing with his playing. Buck has said he plays guitar more like a be-bop trumpeter. This is much different for him and he is so restrained. Loved that strained pinch harmonic near the very end. Always gives a little sumthin'-sumthin'.

Great to watch. It's great to know the setup. Also great to watch him up close.
This is going to be a great series. Excellent analysis of Buck Dharma's technique.
That was so cool!! Well done, Fil and Buck!!...👏👏👏🎸🎸✌❤🤘😁
I went to a Deep Purple concert a couple of year ago. My ears are still ringing.
😂👍
I heard BOC in a small club while I was in college. My ears rang for three days. I'm glad I caught them live though.
Buck Dharma plays in such an unpredictable way - he doesn't follow any set pattern - other than what he seems to hear and sense at the same time - thanks for sharing -
This was great. Brilliantly executed and emotional playing. I learn so much for my own guitar playing from your vids.
Great start to the series. I know very little of Blue Oyster Cult but based on this I’m going to give them a try - thanks for the intro, Fil! Beautiful melody and good dissection.

Buck Dharma along with Frank Marino, Uli Roth and Al Dimeola are my all time favourite guitarists.... BOC's latest album is really good too... Buck is effortlessly awesome right from their first album.

Top notch stuff, from the solo to your analysis of it, can't wait to see who's next and their take on it :)
