It all depends if you take care of the Traxxas batteries My buddy buy an X-Max before COVID and still have the two original batteries for it and we were just ripping it the other day One charge lasted 35 minutes which is about standard for even new batteries
I've never had Traxxas lipo batteries but I did have their Nimh batteries. Basically a waste of money lol. All of em died to the point of not being able to be charged again or having the cells burst (yes nimh batteries can burst). Plus I've had three Traxxas chargers fail on me. The fans lock up and burn up the charger. I switched to Hitech chargers and PowerHobby batteries well over a year ago. Almost two years ago actually. But I've had zero issues since.
@@traxrc I used to smack mine to and that worked for a while. But eventually they'll just stop working half way through a charge and you'll be greeted with a nice burning smell 💥
I will never get traxxas batteries again, the lifespan is ok, but they are extreme fire hazards the other day one exploded , luckily not to much of my house is damaged. We were soooo lucky
I have had traxxas batteries for years and years. All lipos are made in the same couple factories in china. They are all pretty much the same. If you take care of them they last, a long time. I mean my friend ejected a traxxas battery, it was literally bent, he bent it back out and still works fine. Floureon and others will be the end of local hobby shops. Support your local hobby shop - i worked at one and we went out of buisness. It would make me angry when someone would come in with all this china crap, floureon batteries, and expect us to do work on their car for free because we were a hobby shop. It's inevitable all this online stuff will be the end of the hobby shops. However, I do agree, traxxas batteries are way overpriced and have low C ratings. The ID system is also stupid. However, traxxas batteries always break because well, the owners have traxxas cars lol. Just my 2 cents from selling and using many traxxas batteries.
Yeah we totally agree that people need to support their LHS. We dont have one that is close to us so we don't get to purchase from them, otherwise we would. We try to go to Hobby Shops as much as possible if we are out of town and there is one in the area or something. As for Traxxas batteries, like we said in the video we've had good luck and like them, but their too expensive for what they are. The low C-Rating thing also bugs us. We feel like the ID system is good for beginners or kids because it's fool proof, but it isn't for us anymore because we grew out of that and expanded our knowledge.
My hobby shop is about an hour from me and I dont go to that area regularly. However, I've been there numerous times and their prices are decent. Online is cheaper but if I'm in the area and need something I always stop by.
Man it's sad about the local hobby shops pretty near extinct in Australia now everything has gone online I have been supporting one 4 hours from me cause their price's are fairly reasonable.
Wow that’s cool but, I think traxxas batteries are more safe and you have the convenience of no balance port also just saying 3 years for a battery is LONG but you have you opinions and so do I but cool vid! 🤟
Hey, I have a Traxxas 3S 5000mah 25c battery, been less than a month with it, already broke the plastic cover over the protective metal shell. I have an ID charger, but until now, all i had was a Turnigy Hard-case 5200mah 2S LiPo, and decided to get something better, like the one that i currently am. I'm in this hobby for a little over a year and a half, and the only car i had and still have is a rustler 4x4vxl, with alluminium upgrades, 17t pinion and the velileon fan. So far, my only problems were the shock caps that kept on breaking, until i got the aluminium ones. I had a problem with the pinion when it kept getting off the mesh with the spur gear. Yes, i know, im kind of a rookie, i bought the big format battery, but i have a small format socket, so i had to make a straight arm out of polycarbonate that fits, and zip tie the new 3s battery on it. And yes, it came out of the plastic cover, went straight ahead when i hit a border at 10mph. I dont know what is going to happen in the future, i hope nothing goes bad, today i was charging it and it just woudnt charge in fast charging mode, so i just switched to balance mode. And actually, I found out that Traxxas batteries actually have balance cables, the little ones right in the middle, stuck on the actual wires. I do agree, they have quite low C ratings, but so far for me its good. My other battery never gave up on me. Well, first of all its a hard case made out of thick plastic, the other one is literally like a bag and can always puff. Im worried if it would give up on me, since i have a tight budget. But yeah, we will see. EDIT: literally 1 hour later and i have a new problem. My id charger keeps making a noise.
Yeah that's the thing with soft case, we too always worry that the case would break. We have many soft case packs, and have had the cases split on a few packs, including Traxxas LiPos. Traxxas batteries to have the balance wires, but they integrated them into the discharge plug. Our ID charger makes a noise too! We think that it's just dirt in the fan though, if we smack it a few times it goes away... lol. Probably not the way we should do it, but hey, we have a tight budget too and don't want to spend money to fix a noise. Thanks for watching!
@@traxrc yeah, I think I know how to fix the issue, tho can't fix it since I'm out of town and I don't have my tool box with me, I just took the car, the batteries and the charger with me. I think if you unscrew all 4 screws under the charger, take out the fan, there should be a sticker on the fan and if you rip it off just like half let's say, then ull see the bearings and stuff, maybe a drop of oil would fix it?
@@traxrc haha yeah, I don't know why 80% of the time it's stuck on the first led, then it just goes without a problem, but like for 30 mins it's stuck on 1, happens to both fast and balance charging
Yes! We also don't care for the low C-Rating and the fact that you need all of the Traxxas charging equipment to use them, and you need their ESC's because you can't change the connector on Traxxas batteries. But we didn't mention that in the video. Thanks for watching!
I have all Traxxas batteries and the only one that puffed was my fault I left it in one of my cars a forgot about it so it puffed a little but other than that I love Traxxas batteries and the warranty can’t be beat I still have a couple of the first gen Traxxas lipos that have the balence plug and they are still perfect 7 years later
An IC-3 to Traxxas Adapter. But honestly, I wouldnt recommend doing that. I feel like Spektrums Smart system could interfere with the Traxxas ID system. If you want that technology, I'd stick with Traxxas. I've had amazing luck with their 2S packs!
Sounds like a good idea. I've been using my Traxxas stuff for 4+ years and they are still working fine. You may have to replace batteries after a few years, but that is to be expected.
Fyi Traxxas batteries have good customer service. And they will exchange your Traxxas Lipo battery if under one year Warrenty exchange for free just pay for shipping and if not under warranty you pay half the cost for a new of the same type battery you are exchanging plus shipping.
Yes! That is true.. but all of ours weren't under warranty when they died, and we could get 2 cheaper brand batteries for the price of one Traxxas battery, even at 50% price. Hope that makes sense! Thanks for watching!!
How many charge cycles before they died? Were you fast or balance charging? I have the 5800 2c, 7600 2c, 5000 3c. I just got back into rc 1 month ago. I like the charger. My buddy got other brand of batterys & his charging set up is mickey mouse b.s. with adaptors & some extra 3 & 4 post adaps for the small cable that I seriously didnt want to F around with. After working with electrical on my job for 15 years I have a low tolerance for that kind of shit.
No clue the amount of charge cycles. Like we said in the video we had two last for 2 years and had one last for four years. Our fourth battery is still functioning to this day. The regular system with the extra wires isn't for everyone, but it is cheaper so that's why we go for it.
@@traxrc i was just at King Kong hobbys in Ramsey Mn. & I brought this subject up to them. I have the Rustler VXL 2WD. They said alot of people fast charge or get the wrong discharge rate for their use & abuse the batterys. Thats the major reason for their failure. Ive seen this in lipo hand tools. Its a big problem. Hobby shops giving bad info & a big time lack of a standard from the companys that supply the batterys & chargers. Im happy with my set up because its consistant with the proper way of taking care of lipo batts. It follows everything I was taught by electrical engineers. Just because its cheaper doesnt mean its better. You have to keep track of the usage of the batts to get long life period! There are as lot of hacks that dont take care of shit & expect it to last forever because they paid $$$ for it. Thats a bad way to think. Ive watched the youtube vids. Its full of dipshits that have more $$$ than brains & wreck stuff for clicks.☹☹☹☹🤮🤮🤮🙁🙁
Yeah we never fast charge our batteries. Always balance charge them. The cheaper set ups work fine, when you know what your doing. If you don't know a few things about batteries and chargers it can be very detrimental. The Traxxas stuff is great for those who like to keep it simple, and those who are beginners.
@@traxrc agree 100% my bitch with traxxas is the shitty soft tire compound they use. $25-$30 a pair & 2 runs the treads/ knobbys are tearing off. I have a midnight pumpkin from 1990 that still has 3/4 the tread on its second set or tires. Any suggestions on a good set of tires that holds up. I just got back into this. Had to quit skiing motorcycles & dirtbikes because of degenerative disk disease. Not sure of what to buy now. The brushless motor destroys the stock tires. I dont race there isnt any close tracks here anymore. Closest is hour&half away. Thats why i bought the rustler basher. Dirt parking lots & covid closed softball fields with that orange gravel, crushed sandstone shit. Ive spent $60 on tires in 4 weeks. Not happy about that at all.
For the Rustler we would recommend the Proline Trencher T 2.2 Tires. Here's a link too www.prolineracing.com/tires/trencher-t-2-2-all-terrain-truck-tires.asp They don't come with rims do that gives you the option to pick the ones that you like. If you need help finding rims for then we are glad to help with that too.
I had the same thing happen to my floureon batteries that happened to your traxxas ones. They were cheap enough so no worries. That was years ago and now I can hardly find a floureon battery online so I just tried out zeee lipos. So far so good
If you have a Traxxas battery, you have to get a Traxxas charger. That's one downfall. But, it is very safe!! The ID system is great for beginners, and people who want an easy charging method.
Do you have to do anything special to get the off brand lipos to run on a traxxas? I have a Stampede & I put my speed control on lipo mode, but it still wouldn't work. The motor would make noise but not turn much
If the ESC is on LiPo mode, it should work. Perhaps you just got a bad battery? Sorry man wish we could tell you more but that's all that we can think of.
I have the same traxxas battery and I have had it for a year now. And it is all of a sudden getting a little puffy and it won’t hold a charge like it used to. What do you think I should do?
I have a few of rhem, I like the idea of the ID, so I dont have to worry about my kids charging them when we are charging them. They have been great for me. Oh yea intro is cool!!! I to have venom batteries too and they have been awesome too
Thanks! Yeah the ID system is great for kids. We have had a few Venom batteries in the past but that was when we first started out in the hobby and let's just say that those puffed up real quick because we didn't know what LiPo mode was on ESCs.... oops! We will probably try Venom batteries in the future thought because we like that they have the universal connectors.
Traxxas batteries are junk. I've had four and they all puffed out. I use the Traxxas EZ peak dual charger, store them inside, run them in a stock slash 2wd, and still they puff out. Sent two back to Traxxas for replacements. One puffed out the other was just replaced in July, 2022. I have other LiPos that I've had for four years with no issues. I will NEVER buy another Traxxas battery.
I’ve had good luck with mine. The shortest lifespan I’ve gotten out of them is 2 years. Pretty good if you ask me. I just don’t need the extra technology.
You should try to get the new traxxas lipos they have steel plates on all sides I’ve had them ever since they came out before I had the traxxas battery’s you have shown and they puffed up
It's nice that they did that but the steel plates would only help with durability. It wouldn't stop the cells from puffing up. We also don't like the low C-Ratings on Traxxas batteries. Plus they are expensive for what they are in our opinion. Thanks for watching!
i did not see a balance lead on the traxxas battery i am willing to bet that traxxas probably put the bms inside the battery witch communicates to the charger. you may want to rebuild the battery by removing the internal bms and wire up balance leads and let the charger do the balancing and monitoring.
That's exactly what they did with the balance leads it think. What's BMS? Never heard of it before. Is it battery moderating system? Imo there is no need to rebuild a dead Traxxas battery. That's just dangerous with all types of brands in general. I'd rather toss it and pay for a new one then try to fix it myself. I dont have the skill, tools, or knowledge about batteries to be able to perform that.
Because they were still good batteries at that point and they wouldn't have taken them because of that. Plus, most Traxxas batteries at 50% off are the same price, if not more expensive as cheap batteries.
Most brands other than traxxas are just as good or better and cheaper! I race and run multiple different brands have not issues with any batts except gens ace 5000 but I think it was just a fluke cause it was the only one that went bad of my gens ace. The traxxas Id option sucks will not buy one!!
As long as you take care of batteries, expensive or cheap, most will last. I have no problem with the ID system because it's easy and works well. I just think that it is overpriced for not having a high C-rating, and among other things.
@@traxrc for me it's just to much trouble I don't like the traxxas ends. So I have to change them and then with the id plug it makes it even more difficult. I always change the plug style to xt90. But on the one traxxas battery I ended up with, I have not changed it just gonna sell it. And like you said the low C rating is a downer also.
makes sense. I don't have an issue with the Traxxas plugs. I actually don't cut the connectors off of any battery I get if it has one that I don't use. I just buy an adapter so that I don't void any warranty it may have.
Might as well share my hate for another Hi-end battery co. Spektrum👿. I was sold on them and bought all spektrum. Over the past year I lost 2 servos, a receiver, 2 cheap radios, a firma ESC and 3 smart batteries. Just bad servos, batteries, ESC, radios.. the complete bunch. Am using the spektrum charger still though😂. No more Spektrum products ever again. They got my money once but never again. The only good thing is their warranty👍
We know a few people with Spektrum electronics and so far they haven't had any issues. What you experienced though is tough. If I went through that I wouldn't have bought from them again.
Yeah I see they (spektrum) are pushed but I'd stick with Hobby wing as far as ESC? I now like Power Hobby servos and Gensace batteries .. I guess spektrum receivers are ok as I'm still using that and the dx5c radio is nice. But had no luck w/ spektrum servos, firma esc and smart batteries👎
I never said that they will last forever. What I am saying is that they should last for at least a year. We've had Traxxas batteries that have lasted 2 years, 4 years, and even close to 5-6 years. But, they are expensive to replace so I started to buy cheaper batteries off Amazon. So far I've had great luck with Povway Power, RCLiPoBattery.com, and others. But, I havent had all of them for 1 year. I'm not saying your wrong, but there is a difference between failing early and lasting long.
Probably a "noob" question....but aren't we all, at some point? My traxxas rustler motor, has the ID connector and so if I get some of the lower cost lipo batteries, the connector is different. How do I make it work? I hope that makes sense. Thank you.
Yes that makes sense! But the it is actually the ESC that the battery plugs into. To answer your question, you could either get an adapter to go from the connector on the cheaper battery to the Traxxas plug on the ESC, or you can solder a new connector on the ESC, but this would void your warranty, and if you don't know how to solder or don't have the proper equipment this can be very difficult. We suggest that you get an adapter to go from plug to plug. We hope that we helped you :)
You can just go to m.traxxas.com/products/parts/accessories/powercellbatteries-applications and select your model and it will tell you what batteries you need. Thanks for subscribing!
Haha yes they break easily when bashing. We've been running Tekno's for at least a year with no issues, but we have blown the bearings once. That was 100% our fault though.
I just bought 2 Hoovo lipos 2S/5000mah/80C on amazon for $28. I'm going to see if there is a big difference in cheap vs name brand. For that price it's worth a try.
I see what you mean, you did push the batteries until the ESC turned red which could indicate pushing too far. I strongly recommend not discharging below 11.1 volt storage voltage. That will help the battery tremendously. Trump voice. lol
Again, we dont have problems with Traxxas, but they need to drop prices of their products because they are asking more than the competition with less value
They are good batteries, but they are asking way more than they should. You only get to replace it for free in like the first month or two, I don't remember what it was exactly, then after that period they will replace it at half price, which is still $20-$40. You can buy cheap brands that are just as good without all the smart stuff Traxxas has.
I brought a Traxxas 2 cell3800mah and it came to me bulging and wouldn't charge of course. Sent it back for a refund and brought 2 HRB 11.1V 3S 5000mAh LiPo Battery 50C Trax. Will never buy a Traxxas Battery again either.

Traxxas simplified RCing for people like me who just want to charge a pack, go to the park and have fun. I don’t get technical with C ratings or worry about whats the right charging AMPS for my battery or anything else. Traxxas is awesome in my book.
I agree it’s good for beginners but pros want higher quality batteries with higher c ratings.
It all depends if you take care of the Traxxas batteries My buddy buy an X-Max before COVID and still have the two original batteries for it and we were just ripping it the other day One charge lasted 35 minutes which is about standard for even new batteries
Just FYI Traxxas lipo batteries have a lifetime replacement policy for 50%. I just replaced 4 lipo batteries under the policy. 160$ instead of 320$
Yes, we know that. But we can get two cheaper brand batteries for the price of one Traxxas battery even with the 50% off.
lol I can get 2 2s 5200mah Zeee packs for the price of 1 replacement traxxas battery with the 50% of
I have never bought cheaper batteries before. How many years of use can you get out of them?
If you take care of them you can get a few years out of them.
That's why we get cheaper batteries
I've never had Traxxas lipo batteries but I did have their Nimh batteries. Basically a waste of money lol. All of em died to the point of not being able to be charged again or having the cells burst (yes nimh batteries can burst). Plus I've had three Traxxas chargers fail on me. The fans lock up and burn up the charger. I switched to Hitech chargers and PowerHobby batteries well over a year ago. Almost two years ago actually. But I've had zero issues since.
Ya all NiMH batteries all pretty such trash imo. My Traxxas chargers have fan issues but if I give the charger a good smack they turn on lol.
@@traxrc I used to smack mine to and that worked for a while. But eventually they'll just stop working half way through a charge and you'll be greeted with a nice burning smell 💥
I've been smacking it for at least 4 years lol!
I will never get traxxas batteries again, the lifespan is ok, but they are extreme fire hazards the other day one exploded , luckily not to much of my house is damaged. We were soooo lucky
It does seem like they puff up more than other brands.
Every time I'm close to one I try to stop in and pick up something.
Wow that’s cool but, I think traxxas batteries are more safe and you have the convenience of no balance port also just saying 3 years for a battery is LONG but you have you opinions and so do I but cool vid! 🤟
Thanks dude! It really just comes down to price. We think that they are asking too much and not giving enough features for what we like.
@@traxrc Lmao, hey, just dropped the charger on my bed from a meter or so, noise is over
Haha! That's one way to do it!
@@traxrc haha yeah, I don't know why 80% of the time it's stuck on the first led, then it just goes without a problem, but like for 30 mins it's stuck on 1, happens to both fast and balance charging
To clarify, the only problem you have with traxxas batteries is the cost? Batteries lasting 4 years is pretty good.
Yes! We also don't care for the low C-Rating and the fact that you need all of the Traxxas charging equipment to use them, and you need their ESC's because you can't change the connector on Traxxas batteries. But we didn't mention that in the video.
Thanks for watching!
Mine keep dying and it's aways cell 4 that goes wrong I've only had them for a 4 months
@@emanuelbeltran4098 Traxxas will replace them.
From my experience, anything above a 2S lipo from Traxxas dies pretty quick compared to the life I’ve gotten out of my 2S batteries.
What adapter would I need so I can use my spektrum 2s lipo on a traxxas bandit vxl?
An IC-3 to Traxxas Adapter. But honestly, I wouldnt recommend doing that. I feel like Spektrums Smart system could interfere with the Traxxas ID system. If you want that technology, I'd stick with Traxxas. I've had amazing luck with their 2S packs!
@@traxrc Thanks for the info. I wasn't planning on buying another battery and charger right away but I probably will to be on the safe side.
Although that is true, we've never had a Traxxas battery die while still under warranty. We've owned upwards of 10 of them.
Here's a link too www.prolineracing.com/tires/trencher-t-2-2-all-terrain-truck-tires.asp
They don't come with rims do that gives you the option to pick the ones that you like. If you need help finding rims for then we are glad to help with that too.
I had the same thing happen to my floureon batteries that happened to your traxxas ones. They were cheap enough so no worries. That was years ago and now I can hardly find a floureon battery online so I just tried out zeee lipos. So far so good
Ya floureon just fell off the face of the earth pretty much. I have from running LiPos from rclipobattery.com and like them.
I have a traxxas 2200 lipo battery. I don’t want to buy the expensive traxxas charger. Is there any replacement?
If you have a Traxxas battery, you have to get a Traxxas charger. That's one downfall. But, it is very safe!! The ID system is great for beginners, and people who want an easy charging method.
Do you have to do anything special to get the off brand lipos to run on a traxxas? I have a Stampede & I put my speed control on lipo mode, but it still wouldn't work. The motor would make noise but not turn much
If the ESC is on LiPo mode, it should work. Perhaps you just got a bad battery? Sorry man wish we could tell you more but that's all that we can think of.
@@traxrc Thanks man, its no problem. Its possible I didn't have something set right & it was my buddies battery.
How do you plug those new batteries to the ID conector of the Traxxas??
You use an adapter
I have the same traxxas battery and I have had it for a year now. And it is all of a sudden getting a little puffy and it won’t hold a charge like it used to. What do you think I should do?
Dispose of it properly asap! Never a good idea to keep a puffy battery around. It means that it's about to pop.
Can you leave the link to the battery’s not the traxxas one but the other
I think I put it in the description of the video.
I have a hexfly battery and I had one for 6 years and I still have it no puffing no problems still runs like new
Good to know! That's a very long time!
Did you check the life on these lips battery?
If it works, to me it’s enough life 🤘
How long did it take to arrive because I see some good bangood products but it says 14-17 business days to arrive
The Floureon batteries we got from Amazon and it didnt take long. Sadly you can't find any Floureon batteries anymore. I really have no clue why.
Thank you sharering.
I subscribed your channel.
Thank you!
Traxxas will replace them Flareon won't
Traxxas will only replace them if they are under warranty, which I think is a year. Floureon basically fell off. Can’t find em anywhere.
Why didn’t you use the warranty and you could have gotten them replaced for free within the first year
Any thing after the first year is 50 percent off retail
That’s why I’m sticking with Traxxas batteries that’s what I like thats what I’m using
Price doesn’t bother me
Because they were still good batteries at that point and they wouldn't have taken them because of that.
You let batteries get to low hook up to your nickel charger for no longer than a few minutes and you’re traxxas charger will read them
That works most of the time but in certain cases it won’t if the battery is too low.
I use cnhl one of the best cheap bateries
I have heard they are good
Might as well share my hate for another Hi-end battery co.
We've had great luck with the Hobbywing crawler ESCs and would like to try one out in a basher. We also have a DX5C and love that radio too.
They are well known to puff unfortunately.
Surprised mine lasted so long honestly.
Batteries are not designed to last for ever.... especially ones used in such applications that use lots of charge and discharge..
Thx for the info
Glad we could help!
I am in the same situation. I don’t want to sold since I will buy a new Slash... what adaptor do we need?
There are a few connectors that an inexpensive battery may come with, so you would have to get a battery to know what adapter you need
Was the 400th sub!! Just waiting for my Stampede to be delivered so i can get started
Haha thanks man! You'll love it!
I love it too!
So the new battery fits in the Same car as the old one
Yes! The new Traxxas batteries are the same dimensions as the older models
Ok can you like a place to buy I can’t fined in the other link. Thanks man I’m gonna sub
You can just go to m.traxxas.com/products/parts/accessories/powercellbatteries-applications and select your model and it will tell you what batteries you need. Thanks for subscribing!
Mine seem to be fine. 5000mAh 3s. 3 years old.
We never had too many issues either. They lasted for us, but they are just overpriced for what they are. We never tried the 3S though
@@traxrc They are pricey yes.
It took me 2 day to break stock drive shafts on the slash I might get metal one 🤣🤣🤣
Haha yes they break easily when bashing. We've been running Tekno's for at least a year with no issues, but we have blown the bearings once. That was 100% our fault though.
The Venom people also sell batteries
Yeah I've had 1 or 2 of them in the past. I liked them but I didn't notice a difference between the Venom and cheaper brands.
Great video along with good info. Yall guys are doing the real deal Keep rocking.
Thanks man!
I just bought 2 Hoovo lipos 2S/5000mah/80C on amazon for $28. I'm going to see if there is a big difference in cheap vs name brand. For that price it's worth a try.
We always buy cheap batteries for the most part. Povway is a good brand
Your website is really good. Nice content. I subscribe without any hesitation
Haha thank you so much!
I Will not but as well because I make my own battery 5000mah for 15$ :)))
If you make your own batteries you got some guts, or some pretty strict safety procedures lol! Awesome dude!
like the new intro
Thanks!
One 3s traxxas lipo is 50-60 bucks
Yeah and the competition is way less than that.
I've gone through like 5 traxxas 3s 5000mah batteries
Some people just don't have good luck
Send them back to traxxas for 50% off replacement. Its their policy.
I just check your website and for real is totaly awesome
Thank you so much!
I see what you mean, you did push the batteries until the ESC turned red which could indicate pushing too far.
I strongly recommend not discharging below 11.1 volt storage voltage.
That will help the battery tremendously.
Trump voice. lol
Zeee batterys are better
Never tried them!
Traxxas is shit. Everyone, after contact with the company's products, will agree with me.
Again, we dont have problems with Traxxas, but they need to drop prices of their products because they are asking more than the competition with less value
BS
Regarding what?
traxxas arnent the best but they will replace them for free for a lifetime they have a life time warnty
That's not good at all!!
