Claudio Arrau infuses everything he interprets with a power and grace that few possess. I could listen to this all night long! Thank you Robert Schumann for allowing us to enter your world of imagination and innocence.
Thanks for uploading! Aarau is always so wonderful and full of deep insight into Schumann's music - I particularly liked his way of playing the 'Abschied'. Wonder who's on the picture around 20.00 ?
Interlude in Vogel als Prophet sounds like music of Nietzsche - just discovered this listening with the score as I'd been thinking for a long time: 'that sounds so familiar in a way'. That way is Nietzsche! I know this because a pianist I knew - John Bell Young, who was a student of Arrau - did an early album of piano works by Nietzsche, probably the first recorded in modern times - so I know that music pretty well. It is quite identifiable and must say that, unfortunately, Hans von Bülow was wrong about Nietzsche's music, though guess he destroyed a lot of it, in particular a piece he had shown to von Bülow seeking his opinion.
Schumann was a fantastic musical storyteller and so was Arrau!

The right choice of tempo that fits tremendously well into Schumann's realm
Œuvre merveilleusement poétique; interprétation "à la hauteur".
perfect tempos, i agree....
Che meraviglia! 😍

Arrau laisse respirer la musique. Et il a ce genie de la texture veloutée du son.
Inoui
Thanks for uploading. Could you please supply descriptions of the photos?
Who is it in the picture at 13:00 ?
I have the same question. A cousin? A student?
A very young Arrau, of course!
