This lineup could be rock solid before Bryce even sets foot in SF. Taking the pressure off him could do wonders with those guys around him. Tucker is an absolute baller.
This is a guy I've always liked from afar. It would be like trading for Hunter Pence in his prime honestly, but even better I think. A true 25/90 guy, .290 hitter, 20+ SB speed, just a tremendous talent, and he would look GREAT manning RF at Oracle Park. Also only 27 (almost 28) years old too.. so rare that a guy like that could be available via trade. I hope Buster pushes super hard to get this guy from Houston
Great video and analysis on Kyle Tucker Cody. I agree with you that if we can sign Burnes, it would be great to trade for Tucker. Tucker batting 3rd followed by Adames is a legit lineup. I hope we can get it done. I heard this morning that the Yankees may be in the lead for him. I’m praying we get him. Good job Cody.
I'm pretty sure the Cubs are in the lead because they have a loaded farm system plus Suzuki and Bellinger and pitching, the Yankees have a lot less to offer than most would expect.
Great video as always Cody. I would be in support of getting Tucker IF the Giants extend him upon trading for him, similar to how the Dodgers trade for Glasnow and extended him instantly or how the Braves got Sale and extended him too. If the Giants weren't to extend him, it would be getting only one year of control while giving up probably some good prospects. But, I could see Schmitt going to HOU like you said because they currently don't have a starting 3B with Bregman a FA. I wouldn't make that tradeoff unless they extended him (maybe 6-8 years for 200mil+). Extend him right away and put up the risk of waiting until free agency. I like your idea Cody of pre-negotiating an extension upon the trade. If this trade would go through then Yaz would be an amazing 4th outfielder/defensive replacement in all 3 OF spots. Would Tucker be a better trade than Suzuki of cubs even though suzuki has more years of control? Thoughts?
I view Tucker as a fringe top 10 position player in all of baseball. Definitely a top 10 hitter in baseball. Plus, factor in that he’s LH which they’ll need for balance in the lineup he’s a much better fit than Suzuki IMO.
@@EYDShow Agreed. Great hitter and SF needs and LH, especially in their ballpark. (Splash hitter alert!). But, the only way for me to be on board with a trade for him is to extend him upon getting him or have the extension be a part of the trade. You cannot have that guy just for a rental and give up some good prospects. You know?
@ColeDunstan The actual trade is for the team who would be trading him ,the Astro's who could care less about the extension offer to the player. The extension offer would be after he was traded.
Even being a rental, I think it would take like Roupp, Luciano, Schmitt, and Doval, something in category to get someone like Tucker. I hate to give up Roupp and Schmitt, but you just bite the bullet make the deal if you want to him. Someone mentioned online that there was some bad blood between the Giants and Excel, don't know if that is true, I wonder if that would hinder a deal. He would be the first real legitimate consistent power hitter since Barry. I personally think Eldridge's ceiling offensively is very similar Tucker minus the defense and speed.
Yeah idk of any bad blood between SF and that agency, or what it might stem from. Correa is a Boras guy so definitely wasn’t that and Excel represents Bailey so there’s at least some relationship. That’s why I think it’s important though to at least see if there’s interest in and extension before pulling the trigger. If there is just pay what you have to.
What’s your point? Good get rid of all of them! Doval is untrustworthy, Schmitt is a flat out bum rally killing Bum! I wish giants would see that. And Luciano has had enough time and well, we all know he’s Not the SS of the future !! Do It
@@nickbovi I’m thinking with cash being King any bad blood can be cured with Benjamins because whoever caused the problem isn’t likely to still be with either organization
@@nickbovi I’m also thinking you may be overpaying because even elite talent with only one year guaranteed isn’t likely to cost more than three upper level talents. I don’t see Luciano and Roupp likely to be desirable. Think Whisenhunt, Black and Duval
I would give up one of LaMonte Wade/Casey Schmidt, Doval, Black, and Luciano. I think that could get it done. Would it be a lot? Yes, but Tucker is a superstar and would make us a playoff team. Whoever you don't trade between Wade/Schmidt can play first until Bryce is ready to come up.
I would love Tucker in a Giants uniform hitting hrs. I just wouldn’t give a lot for a 1 yr rental unless it was a sign and trade. I saw Blue Jays have the lead on Burnes. Any thoughts on Giants still possibly snagging him?
I view TOR being listed as the favorite a lot like the Giants being listed as the favorites on FA the last few years. Typical Boras tactic to get the most out of the team he actually wants to play for.
I think the Giants right now have a good shot at the wildcard standing pat. That said, they need a pitcher and another outfielder, maybe a one year guy to help at first base.
I would disagree that that have a good shot right now. Frankly I don’t think they’d even be favored after Burnes. But they’re an above .500 team right now that much of their success hinges in young players taking a step forward. Gotta remember, NL is stacked right now and it took 89 wins to get in last year. Right now only 5 of LAD, SD, AZ, PHI, ATL, NYM, and SF could potentially get in, and that doesn’t even factor in whoever doesn’t win the NL Central. I’m not saying they can’t, but they definitely have a lot to do even if they land Burnes. But they’re going in the right direction it feels like.
I would say the 2 guys you absolutely DO NOT trade are Eldridge and.....Grant McCrae! Those 2 could end up being the best 2 players on the Giants for a decade.
You have to have F-it money to extend a guy like Tucker. He is probably going to test FA. I'd trade: Yaz, Schmitt, and Whisenhut and then eat 4 mil of Yaz's deal.
Hey Cody what do you think about Cj Widger the lefty the Giants took today in the rule 5. Just curious your thoughts on him. Glad they added another lefty to the depth at least.
Gonna be honest, I have no clue about him and will need to do some serious digging. Older guy still in the lower levels and the numbers don’t jump off the page. I’ll try to find more out about his stuff.
I think it’s possible, though Luciano has lost a lot of his shine. That’s why I included Tibbs (#88 ranked prospect in baseball). Not sure what other packages will get offered but it will definitely take a haul still.
Harrison isn’t on the block. Wisenhunt is moveable. Don’t see us moving Tibbs, we never get young power bats so we have to keep all those guys, especially OF’s.
@ if you sign Burnes and find out an extension is possible for Tucker (who knows if it actually is) you would be beyond foolish to not be willing to move Harrison. Harrison is loaded with potential, but that’s all it is right now. Tucker is a top 25 player in all of baseball, arguably much higher than that. Easily a top 10 hitter in the game. Not to mention if you extend Tucker the OF is full with Ramos, Lee and Tucker. So you don’t need to worry about Tibbs at that point. The key here is knowing whether or not and extension is possible.
@ I agree with knowing whether or not an extension is possible but he/they could easily say yeah we’re “open” to it and not do it. Every young player is filled with potential but if we could still have Zach Wheeler vs how it panned out with Beltran, I’d take that back in a heartbeat. Harrison projects to be a #2 guy behind Webb. Ray is hit or miss and not with us for much longer so we’re going to need a good lefty we can rely on. Between Schmitt, Luciano, McCray, & Wisely there’s enough pieces that can be moved. Ramos I’m still not high on. His 2nd half was terrible and going into last season, NOBODY in their right mind would have said he would have been an All Star. I think it was more of the fact guys were willing to challenge him and he did some damage. I sure hope he can replicate it. But the 2nd half was bad. Chasing out of the zone so often. Not making hitting adjustments. Doing that ugly looking rollover, one handed finish try to hit it hard but going nowhere swing. We have enough young pitchers and can go sign great FA pitchers that we shouldn’t be willing to move young power bats. We should look to move our pitching depth in trades to get guys who are big league ready bats that significantly improve the lineup. Sure Tucker does that but the 1 year rental doesn’t make sense for a team trying to get back into the playoffs.
@ Ramos was dealing with a thumb injury for basically the entire second half, so that at least could partially explain it. He did start to chase less as the season went and I watched his chase rate continually drop as the season wore on. We’ll see how he looks next season. And I’m not suggesting giving up all the assets for a rental. I’m suggesting ownership be prepared to say “what’s your number” and meeting it if they are going to make this deal. Otherwise I’d be out on it this offseason and just say chase him in FA.
Not that I’m in any way against trading for Vladdy, I’ve pretty openly said I’d love a bold trade for him, I do think Tucker is a stronger overall fit. Given both the position he plays, his overall defensive ability, the fact that he’s LH and likely to be easier to extend.
Boy if Posey wants to make a splash getting Tucker would be the way to do it. If extended how much do you think SF would have to offer in $$ and yrs? In my opinion SF would have to like you said over pay by a punch but not to be a DebbieDowner ,Tucker would be a fool not to hit the open market next yr because his numbers are consistent and he will probably have a above average yr next yr. I do not think Tucker wants to hit in Oracle Park but money speaks so the Giants need to blow the pants off in their offer.
I’m not sure what the market value on an extension would be for him. Very well may be 10 years/$300M+. Have to imagine if you make the deal you’re prepared to pay what’s necessary to close.
As much as I would love to have Tucker on the team, definitely him over Yaz, the 1 year piece is too scary. As big of contracts as guys have been getting over the last few years, I highly doubt he doesn’t test the waters unless he gets hurt or has a down year. They need to go all in on BOTH Burnes & Sasaki. Take Roki away from LA/SD. Solidify the rotation as one of the best in baseball for the next 5 years and we will be able to trade for another power bat or attract a better quality position player in FA.
That’s why they need to at least find out his openness to an extension before they would finalize anything. Best example I have in recent years was Betts when he got traded. He was younger and better than Tucker and he was willing to extend. Most guys have a price tag where they’d be willing to and you just never know. But some guys, like Burnes and Soto, made it crystal clear they were hitting FA no matter what.
I’d be very much in favor of Tucker in Orange and Black but it’s sort of like the Soto situation because he’ll be an unrestricted free agent next season so we could lose him unless he loves it here and we can aggressively sign him to the bag
The thing I most remember about Tucker is that when he was a minor leaguer they were doing a movie about Ted Williams and used him because his swing was so similar. Ted could hit a little bit and so can Kyle.
Ain't gonna happen. He's too expensive and the Gs don't have the capital - except to give the farm away. Don't make another Beltran gaff. I'd love to get him though.
If it's a rental you better not be talking about giving up anything significant... THE GIANTS ARE NOT GOING TO BE COMPETITIVE NEXT YEAR, WTF IS THE POINT OF A RENTAL IF HE ISNT GOING TO BE AROUND WHEN YOU GOT A LEGITIMATE SHOT.
