I was about to pay a lot more money than this to have a guy mod my 5kx with a sapphire bezel, great wave dial and domed sapphire crystal, and then I found this watch. This is even better than what I envisioned for my mod. I absolutely love it.
Now that's the version of a 'Great Wave off Kanagawa' that I've been looking for! As you say, the dial is the star of the show, so the other pieces that use this dial in bronze cases and bezels and other distracting elements make the piece 'too much' or a little 'gimmicky'. I'm so glad that someone's got it right. I've had my eye on pieces with this dial for a while, but they've all been...over cooked. The dial is perfect, and I'd guess that in the 'flesh' it looks even better... So in a way it's the white bezel insert, the simple brushed case, the 'Willard' styled tropical strap and that magnificent double domed crystal that really are the star of the show, in that they sit back and allow the dial to dominate. A great looking piece I reckon - not every watch needs to be an austere and sensible thing that evokes this and pays tribute to that etc., etc., I think that sometimes it's important not to take ourselves too seriously... And this is an affordable way to do so.

I wear a seiko sbdc059 which is the same lug-to-lug and case diameter of 42.6mm but it sits ok on my 6.5” wrist. As a diver’s/sports watch I believe there is some leniency on sizing. Wouldn’t wear any bigger though personally. Hence, I’ve bought this watch yesterday on Aliexpress and hopefully the QC is okay and it presents similar to the one in this video!

Someone pointed out a mistake I made in the review... The bezel is not ceramic, It's sapphire. Sorry about that.
As long as you're happy with the watch, that's the main thing... Slight mistakes of specifications are nothing.

Perfect combination of no logos, good lume and the white bezel is the icing on the cake! Best implementation of that Kanagawa dial I've seen!

Its not hand painted
The size in width comes from the big bezel. The dial is 28.5mm which is standard for most seiko automatic dials.

I'm not really sure if it's silicone or rubber... But you're correct about the bezel being sapphire and not ceramic. Sorry my mistake.

Got the sumo version. I like how the domed crystal shows the dial a little more. The case back and crown are signed on the sumo
The double domed sapphire crystal is cool. That's the one they sent me at first by mistake.

Did you go for the domed or flat crystal option?

Only ever so slightly. It's not really noticeable during daily use though.
