I've been a Marshall hater for the longest time, but the more I watch this channel; the more my mind changes. Euge gets some super kickass tones out of them.
Can’t really go wrong with one. If one does the reason is usually in the mirror 😎.
How is that possible… a Marshall hater?? Umm but like every band I know uses Marshall.. unless you like Laney..
I meet Nuno last year at the Vai academy. He is using the red channel on his DSL. with the gain fairly high. He let us play thru his rig. Was an epic moment. The tone was there but like you said, his technique is his own. Only effects he used were a phase 90, a Rat and his gt-8 in the loop of the guitar. The bass knob on his dsl at lower volumes was at 7-8 crazy but it worked. We got a nice session with him and some very nice life lessons.
Great work Euge!! nice playing.
What were the treble mids and presence settings ?
In his interview he did after winning some magazines solo of year and guitarist of the year he said treble, mids, presence on 1 and the bass about 4 @@grantmcmichen40
Cool! Thanks!
Bought ADA MP1 in late eighties when I was 16 years old.
Even though I'm not using it right now (using MP2 instead), I've never considered selling it.
Brilliant preamp 🤘😎👍
Yes 👌.
On the Three Sides album he used a Soldano Series II Super Lead 60, and a Boss Turbo Overdrive. On Waiting for the Punchline, he was using a Fender combo (can't remember the exact model) for most tracks, and the Soldano was still used for some parts, I think from memory it was used for the song Evilangelist. Whatever song it was used on, you can clearly hear the difference from the Fender combo.
Thanks for the info!
Lucky enough to have seen Extreme three times so far. Nuno is an absolute beast! Saw him guesting on a couple of songs at a Baby Animals concert, when he was still married to Suze DeMarchi (Baby Animals singer). His playing is so clean and articulate. He's basically the same age as me, but not only can I not play like him, he looks about 20 years younger than me! Very interesting video. Warheads is a pretty challenging song to play, well done.
Cool! Thanks!
I think he uses the red channel of his DSLs (at least judging from pics from his gigs, you can see the red light on - I don't know what he does in the studio), wow I didn't know that his guitar was so bright, his settings now make sense indeed! Great video as always
I became N ADA preamp user in the late 80’s into a Quadraverb then a Boogie 50/50 into a Marshall 412 cab with 65’s
👌🤟🎼
Thank you for the great work Euge. Always a fun time watching your videos man ❤
Glad you like them! Thanks!
excellent focus on everything!!! thanks Euge.. this is an amazing work
Glad you liked it! Thanks!
I appreciate your videos, it's always informative and we can see that you're talking about something you love.
Thanks! Glad to hear!
Awesome walk-through of Nuno's technique and equipment, and awesome performances too! Kiitos!
Glad you enjoyed it! Ole hyvä!
Always great content my friend.
Thanks!
Great Xmas present! Thank you!
Thank you too!
thanks for this Euge, really good concise rundown and great playing as always ,
promoted them in Luxembourg some 6 years ago, the setup was so simple, was like a boss gt-8 some pedals / and a rat just in front of his dsl2000, they absolutely killed it live
Thanks! Cool man!
You made that sound effortlessl aswell man. I was listening and not watching.
It sounded ridiculously good.
Great playing Elga.
Thanks a lot!
What a cool video!. That first Extreme album is IMHO an absolute clinic, not just on funko-melodic playing, but how important a crisp/articulate uber-crunchy tone to that style of playing. I loved the next two albums, but they didn't measure up IMO to that first album, as far as tone goes. I know a LOT of people disagree. Maybe there was a little producing magic (like with all great guitar tones), but, *I've NEVER heard an 800 sound that crips and punchy, as that first album.......not once (with or without a RAT pedal).* Or, I would've bought one long ago. Strangely enough, my SLO's crunch channel get's close to that first Extreme album, than any 800 I've ever heard. *Michael Wagner is known for recording some of the best guitar tones on the planet.* But, I digress... *It's very cool I seeing you devote some time to Nuno's playing and tone.!* I think Nuno picked up where EVH left off with Fair Warning (that influence is ALL OVER that first Extreme album...). When you have a guitar tone that's THAT well dialed in, it seems to make everything else sound killer. Drummer's turned guitar player should be illegal (that, or made mandatory 🤣). Having that blend of melody vs funk, combined with an epic tone never get's old.....never. Thanks for sharing! This was particularly interesting to watch. Well done!
*P.S...whatever you did at **20:55** was one of the best tones I've ever heard you dial up. Extremely focused, and punchy. From the look on your face, maybe it's a little brash?. But, what I'm hearing sounds extremely good. Coming through a set of very nice speakers on my end, it doesn't really sound much brighter, just much tighter, with a LOT more punch, than with the black guitar.* But, at that point, Euge...just to make sure I understand what I'm hearing, you're using the JCM800 (Zack Wylde version is it? not sure if that matters) with the RAT, pedal...correct? I'll go back and research it, but what era/album was he using the DSL100 (JCM2000?). Btw...as an unrelated side-note, I just heard that same amp (JCM2000) with that hot mod evo you showed off, a little while back, and it was spectacular.
Thanks man!
Amazing Nuno playing Euge! And no wonder my ADA-1 never sounded like Nuno (even with the "Nuno settings" guides out there)! My guitars never had that shrill brightness that the N4 does.
You need his guitar indeed, those pickups are craaazyyyy
Thanks!
And the rat just adds percussiveness
Dude, that geetar playin' it KILLER🤘😎🤘
That's great stuff! Thank you. Thoroughly enjoyed.. even took notes! haha!
I have a Washburn N2.. and yes! It Sid mega bright! I am trying these settings on my Marshal .. just now! Just need to buy a RAT!
Your always kicking ass bro
Thanks!
After watching you, I need to go practice a bit 😃🤟 Good God! Phenomenal playing and advice!
Rock on! 😎🎶🕺
You are a Bad Man! Rock On!
😎🕺🤟
nuno is a beast...wicked cool guy too
What a diff those two axes are ! Yours stomps the shit out of nunos N4 and the bill Lawrence's..
I like them both very much.
That was ridiculous!
🕺🙏🤟🎶
Had both those mags 🤟
👌🤟
Excellent guitar playing! Nuno is very difficult.
Thanks a lot!
Euge antaa palaa!
No niin no niin! 🕺😎
Brilliant vid...great analysis...\m/...A Larry Lalonde and/or Marty Friedman vid would be welcome if possible...🤟🤟
Thanks!
Nuno currently uses Celestion G12-T75 speakers instead of Greenbacks with JCM2000.
Roger!
I believe he also used a Soldano SLO-100 on Three Sides or the album right after.... if I'm not mistaken.
Could be 👌🎶.
I think the trem stopper having contact with the guitar you still get that fuller sound Lively tone etc.. no? It's brass like the brass block.
Yep 👌. And with the brass block even more (I have ordered the whole she-bang from FU-Tones to the N-4).
🤘🤘🤘 EUGE 🤘🤘🤘
🤟
I’ve got a 91 MIJ Davies spec’d N4 too… did you refinish your N4 with oil? Mine has lacquer finish unlike the USA made ones which have a tung oil finish. From the video looks like you’ve removed the lacquer and applied an oil finish.
Cool! I haven’t done anything to it (except changed the hardware, pickup to Wilde 500XL etc.) so no idea 😎. The finish is just like it was when I bought this from Ishibashi Music, Osaka, Japan while on tour there with Cyhra about a year ago.
@@EugeValovirta230V it looks really good man! They sure are a bargain for a Davies spec’s N4.
N4 is a spectacular guitar but I hate that the neck has to be taken off to adjust the truss rod.
Yeah that’s a bummer indeed.
Hi I'm El and this one is about the great...
😁
I recently found a 1993 n2 for sale for about 650$ is it worth it? Should I get it
I’ve never played with N2s so no idea.
Heey Euge, I have always used the percussion aspects of the guitar, most of my riffs use this style. I recently bought a superstrat. Any suggestions on settings, pick up selection? It comes with a 5 way, and a bridge humbucker. I am not sure of the brand of pickups, but after playing around with my EQ, Ican Eddies Van Halen 1 tone. What I an doing is trying to compose a Concept album. Thinking along the lines of Queen 2 meets King Diamond. An LP with story line Something I miss in today's music.
Cool! I like EMGs and set it up how you like it the most or ask a tech to do it. That’s the best suggestion I can give 😎.
I saw them on the Pornograffitti tour WEEEEEEEEEE DOGGGGIEEEE…what a show. Your like Eddie who. The only part that sucked was the opening band Saigon Kick.
... I felt the same hearing pornographfia .. but your in a total different league.. you put nuno to shame bro
😁. I don’t think so 😎.
I betcha this is Johan Segeborn's cousin 😂
😁
I come to see you because your far far better then Nuno lol, seriously, he had a few hits and totally mimicked ED Van Hallen where you got Zak Wylde and Syke's influences but totally new musical and approach..not the same things, whats interesting is EVH one claimed Randy Rhoads copied him then later admitted he was always upset about people taking his playing to another level or applying it as if it was there brand., all not the same as Nuno copying Eddie and creating a solo alike Eruption to advance his name.
Wow what absolute rubbish. Nuno wipes the floor with nearly every so called legend in terms of technique, pocket, song writing and charisma. Yes he was influenced by Eddie but who wasn’t? He doesn’t exactly hide it. You must be on meth if you think Euge is better than Nuno.
Thanks but I disagree 😎.
@@EugeValovirta230V so humble, im sure we see only a tip of the ice burg, i watched videos where you ripped out some solos msn, very inspiring and appreciated !
