Hey! I was one of the voices in the choir and it made me very happy that you rewinded to hear this part for the second time :DDD Love your reaction videos, thank you so much for the kind words about the song!
As a Russian and generally ardent fan of Stalker, I will explain: "Cheeki Breeki, i v damkee" This is a phrase used by bandits in the game during combat. It means something like "one, two and I'm higher", in other words, bandit jargon meaning rising from the bottom to authority
Ну учитывая что фраза произноститься в бою и посути "раз два в дамки" скорее будет правильно что это не буквальное повышение бандита, а боевой клич на получение стратегического премущества в бою как например тот же "обходи это шалупонь"
@@lmao4960 Considering that "v Damkee" means the moment in a game of Checkers when regular figure reaches end and becomes super figure that can move through the field and easy win the game - it makes sense.
I don't have any knowledge of Russian, but I've also read that it may also be tied to criminal slang as well, and could mean "take his crown" or "shoot him in the fucking head!" Cheeki breeki on its own comes from a nursery rhyme and just means a good feeling; _'It's all cheeki breeki my friend'_
"I v damkee". In chess or checkers it refers to a figure that reached the opposite end of the board and became the queen or "Damka". In Stalker, bandits use the phrase "Cheeki Breeki i v damkee" during the fighr, which is a jargon way of saying that they're gonna win
To answer your question about the location: In the song they say "I'm going back to The Zone". The zone they're referencing is the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone (which is also known as 'The Zone'), which is a 30 kilometer zone that surrounds the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant. While the plant is located in Pripyat, Ukraine, the Plant was, and still is, technically classified as a Soviet RBMK reactor, with it still being under Soviet watch when the infamous disaster happened in 1986. Anyway, TL;DR: This game takes place in the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone located in Pripyat.
You’re missing some information in the games lore the power plant was just a front for research into a strange alien rock that showed up a long time ago. After the disaster resuch contented until 2006 when a second disaster happened wich created the zone we know now
The verse at 4:14 and the error message at the end refer to the fact that absolutely all S.T.A.L.K.E.R. games released with a lot of bugs.(even this one :P) At this point, the cult following that these game have consider the crashes and bugs as part of the experience. So as the GSC developers are working hard to smash this bugs, we the "Stalkers" don't really mind them that much since we waited 14 years for this game.
"I've longed for that Батон" Hi, Dave. As a Belarussian, native-Russian speaker, and one of the oldest STALKER players and fans, I'll explain. Батон - it's just literally the white bread, food and consumable item in all of the games of that series. The joke is in fact, that before 22th of February 2022 happened, GSC had been sharing their progress on their UA-cam channel - how levels were made, how many models and variety of those had been made..and then..They've presented 4K-rendered model of so-called bread, "Батон". Long story short, every stalker was craving to taste this 4-star beauty) (But it was crudely cut from the game. there is none 4k-"Батон" anymore)
I really like that they use "she" for the Zone's pronounce in this song. Some Stalkers refer to Zone as to the living creature with her emissions and artifacts and anomalies which appear after them.
@@nahodnejtypek6502 Not just "some". In Russian, _every_ noun is gendered and any object or location, no matter whether animate or not, can be referred to as either "he", "she", or "it", depending on how that noun is structured.
Another great reaction, Dave! ^^ It's been years since Lenich and Kirya sung something together! So to hear this song brings back sweetened memories, thank you for the reaction!! Have a great day!
Cheeki Breeki and other bandit voice stuff that made Gregory German a living meme-) It's so much fun listening to it after 17 years making it's comeback again. Welcome to the Zone stalker
STALKER is made in ukraine and takes place in ukraine place called chernoble if it had second mysterious nuckelar power plant reactor explosion in 2006 and the word "батон" is type of bread like bagueat but shorter and thicker
Small additional: baton became famous meme in local Stalker fanbase because of early advertising company where was shown pre-rendered photorealistic baton as potential in-game prop. It looked so _unreal_ good that caused big drama between optimists and pessimists.
I can try to explain about this song. The creators of the Stalker series of games are Ukrainians and the action takes place in Chernobyl, where an accident occurred at a nuclear power plant, which caused anomalies. A lot of people with a desire to earn some money went to these wastelands. The song occasionally uses Russian-Ukrainian words to convey the original culture. First of all, this is bandit slang, which you can often hear, for example, "chiki-briki and v damki". These phrases have become memes and you can't imagine this universe without these expressions.
Hopefully Unreal - as it is on Unreal 5 engine, and "hopefully optimized" - because first game on release was very unoptimized, plus Unreal 5 engine so far is laggy in every game. Cheeki Breeki i v Damkee is bandit jargon from game and it means something "hop, hop and I am bandit lead". "v Damkee" particularry is a move from game Checkers - when regular figure reaches end of the field and becomes super enhanced and can move whole field and not just 1 at a time. So bandits saying it during combat means "lets do strategic move to win there" and when outside of combat (like before attacking you) means that "it is my lucky day, I will be rich/famous". Game itself takes place in Chornobyl - place of famous and one of biggest manmade nuclear disasters that happened in 1986. Idea of game is that radiation (plus some alien tech) made 30 km zone around the disaster into Anomaly zone, where weird stuff happens and where you can find different almost magical artifacts that causing all kinds of things. Game is mainly know for its atmosphere and visuals (not stunning but very distinct and "soviet-like"). Memes in song are about waiting for 17 years from first Stalker to release of second Stalker (as development started long time ago). And that part is basically "I am young again, playing Stalker just like I did in my school days, and now I feel myself young as then again". It is like memes about Half Life 3, basically. Developers also Ukrainians whos office was bombed in 2022 and many relocated to Prague to finish the game, some of them died. Rusty Маслина - is what bandits in first Stalker game were saying when you shoot them - "I've cathed a Маслина", word itself means single black (ripe) Olive. In other words it is means to say "bullet" without naming bulet. In the end it is meme about how first game of Stalker was often crashing on important quests, especially in the end of them, losing all progress.
Its actually a nod to old ukrainian songs, in them wooden spoons were considered a musical instrument, and the sound of them hitting eachother is very similar to the sounds of geiger counter If you want to hear more songs of this kind, one i can think of is "дике поле"(a wild field)
the line is a reference to an official photo from a GSC account some years back. It was a 4k render of a loaf of bread which was posted out of nowhere and quickly became a meme in the stalker fanspace.
Thank you very much for this video! I’ve noticed some Easter eggs hidden in this song: "Have your pants been wet since Agroprom?" This references one of the scariest secret laboratories in the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. series. Agroprom is infamous for its intense atmosphere, terrifying bloodsucker encounters, and scream-inducing moments. "Vortex" A vortex is a type of anomaly in the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. universe. Deadly to the average stalker, it embodies the dangers lurking in the Zone. "You push through to see your dreams fulfilled" Many stalkers enter the Zone driven by rumors of a powerful artifact, the Monolith, said to fulfill any desire. The Zone also houses fanatics, known as Monolith worshippers, who revere this artifact. "With no puppies or anime girls (There’s no girl)" This highlights the absence of female characters in the original S.T.A.L.K.E.R. series. "She was gorgeous then, now she's unreal (And hopefully optimized)" A clever wordplay referencing GSC's shift to Unreal Engine 5 for S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2. The old engine was notorious for its lack of optimization and frequent crashes. "I've longed for that батон [baton] in Ukrainian means bread" A nod to "The Loaf," an in-game bread that became a meme among fans. Its appearance in 2020 marked a confirmation of S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2's development after years of silence from the dev team. "Cheeki Breeki" The meaning of the phrase "А ну, чики-брики и в дамки", which Cheeki Breeki is derived from, is related to the board game of checkers - one of the favorite pastimes of Russian inmates - and is also part of a Russian nursery rhyme. The expression Cheeki Breeki alone can mean that's everything's OK. The phonetic transliteration of the original phrase to English is "Ah noo cheeki breeki i v damké". A common misconception of the expression Cheeki Breeki says that it is a corrupted pronunciation of "shake it, break it", but the actual phrase itself has two possible and closely related translations: "А ну, чики-брики и в дамки" may mean "One, two, I'm on top!", which in the context of Russian checkers is said when two pieces are stacked to create a "king". Simply put, this phrase expresses that one player has the upper hand over the other, or that the speaker is in control of the situation. Another translation relies on the Bandits heavy use of localized Russian slang. "Чики-брики" is often warped into a vulgar threat of shooting someone, while "и в дамки" means "the head" which would roughly translate the phrase into "Shoot him in the fucking head". It also should be noted that Cheeki Breeki can have purely cathartic function, that is, to convey excitement or anticipation. The phrase can be semantically obscure even to the Bandits themselves and therefore serve no other purpose than to display emotion and threaten the enemy, much like the American expression "Fuck yeah!". Looking through the game files of the Bandits, they have different types of sounds that play when they try to communicate. For example, "Ah noo cheeki breeki i v damké!" is a "detour" file that plays when Bandits try to flank the player. Going back to checkers translation, which roughly means to take advantage, it allows us to interpret the phrase as "Flank from behind!" "On your screen - прекрасна долина [precrasna dolyna]" This translates to "A Beautiful Valley" in Ukrainian. It refers to the hauntingly beautiful yet dangerous landscapes of the Zone, juxtaposing its visual allure with the perils lurking within. "In your spleen - a rusty маслина [maslyna]" "Маслина" (maslyna), literally meaning "olive" in Ukrainian, is slang for a bullet. Used by the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. bandits, the term originates from prison language and underscores the gritty, rough culture of the Zone's inhabitants.
The game may not optimized but the zone is as beautiful as when i last left her. bugs and all i love her and i cant stay away. even after losing a 17 hour save to a bug.
a damka is a chess piece, a chess queen. chiki briki i v damki - an expression of how a pawn becomes a queen of the game. Bandits used the expression. baton - bread, stalker food) prekrasna dolina in the screen - zona, and maslina - that's what the bandytes called the bullet.
5:36 Дамки. Shorter queen ye-a?. Russian word. There's a game called checkers. And when a checker reaches the end of the field it becomes a queen. (Дамка-Damka)
The game takes place in Ukraine, specifically in Chornobyl. In addition to how popular the first STALKER was, the events over the last two years in Ukraine have contributed to the hype around this game it seems. While the dev studio relocated to Prague, some of the devs and voice actors apparently stayed to fight. One of the lead devs for the first STALKER games was killed in Bakhmut.
Mango, do yourself and play all of these games. S.T.A.L.K.E.R Shadow of Chernovyl, Call of Pripyat, Clear Skies and finally 2. Far as I care, these are AMAZING survival games. Stay Cheeki Breeki.
Damki is a term from checkers. This is a checker brought to the back row of the opponent’s field. This word comes from the French - dame. In other words, an ordinary checker becomes a lady of high origin and with new capabilities.
i must say that stalker is probably the greatest impact Ukraine had on the gaming world. yeah, its a Ukrainian game. i know that, because i am Ukrainian. Also, this song has very strong Ukrainian vibes. obviously, there is some Ukrainian language mixed in there, like Прекрасна долина(Beautiful valley) and Батон(a type of white bread). Theres also the strong Ukrainian accent.
@Chimi-TO nonono, you misunderstand. That is not the heavy and strict russian accent. That is also not the slightly off belarus accent. And also not the hissing polish accent. That is a ukrainian accent. I would know, i am ukrainian.
@@Chimi-TOokay, i will give to you the fact that there is some russian accent mixed in with the ukrainian, but the reason for that is a very long history of oppression between russia and Ukraine. Like that time russia starved two thirds of the population of the eastern half of our country to death, only to send in a shitload of their own citizens into the now empty houses. Pretty recent thing, too. That happenned in the 20th century.what i can say is that the female choire part is almost pure ukrainian accent. Cheeki breeki i v damkee is a russian saying. The accent is a mix of russian and ukrainian accents, both because the singers are russians and because chernobyl is in the eastern part of Ukraine, where russian is more dominant.
@@Mr.Eous_Mann Or maybe simply because Belarusians, Ukrainians and Russians are Slavs? And all these peoples have almost the same accent. I don’t see any difference between Russian and Ukrainian accents at all.
@Chimi-TO there is a big difference. Just because you dont see a difference doesnt mean there isnt one. I dont see any difference between all the kinds of spanish, but im pretty damn sure they are different accents. I can hear the difference between the accents. Its a lot of small things. Russians typically replace s with z, while it is way less common in ukrainian. Also ruddians often swear. Not important to the point, just saying. Russian is overall a rougher language, and the people speaking it are rough too. Ukrainian is a bit softer. We dont go for hard Rs, or replace s with z, or d with the slavic D(its rougher). There is a difference between the accents, otherwise they wouldnt be accents. What you are doing is pretty much merging russia, belarus and Ukraine into one country. I do not like that at all. Noone in Ukraine likes that. If we did, we wouldnt be in a constant war with russia.
Hey Dave, the "Crash" at the end is because both Stalker games has bugs which could crash the game and i think that's what its referencing, the crashes.
It's so funny seeing foreign people, that thinks on other language and contacting with your own. I can say that this song weresing by russian people from first words and seeing you, who can't understand some words it's... Brongs me to thoughts that world is greater than all of us thinks.
I really like how they worked on "Russian Accent". It's like a Russian is singing in English. And words from Russian slang also give the vibe from the first parts of Stalker. Baton is Bread. And the phrase in the chorus, Russian jargon, can literally be said as “they took the things and drove on.” And the analogy with the queen from chess suggests that they will reach the top. And it’s very cool for Russian ears to hear this...
Actually, they ARE Russians singing. The Chalkeaters are Russian furry/brony guys from St. Petersburg, and their leader Alios literally has username of 'AliosPony'. The guys singing are Lenich&Kirya - also a Russian band from Far East region, one of the best fandom cover musicians. So yes, it's _the_ Russian accent you hear =)
Очень странно слушать песню явно созданную по канонам русского около-народного творчества, но с текстом на английском языке. Очень странно эое чувство.
Всё это выглядит словно я, как сельский человек послушал Моцарта или Шопенгауэра. Это настолько нелепо, если не разбираешься в атмосфере вселенной игры, зачем эти видео?
As Ukrainian ima say it feels completely stupid and goofy, cos it feels more russian when it should be. Especially unnecessary ascent. Like...ok but bruh
All the words in the song, which are written in Cyrillic, are Ukrainian: baton, prekrasna dolyna, maslyna, and are pronounced clearly in Ukrainian, although the authors seem to be from russia.
I'll try to explain. With my bad English yeah. There was once a game. Stalker. In 2007. It was clunky and buggy as fk. Like it became a meme of buggy clunckiness. Still. The feeling it gave. The atmosphere. The chill in your veins. One either dig it or not. Those how felt... well they hooked on it. Addicted. We were kids that time. 20+. Some younger even. We did not have a chance to resist. It's been 17 years. We've grown. Made our own families, our own kids... deep dive into the real life. Some (like me) grown grey already. And now the Zone is back. This silent whisper that is not a voice nor a sound. The Longing. She's calling us back. The song is about this.

The game may not optimized but the zone is as beautiful as when i last left her. bugs and all i love her and i cant stay away. even after losing a 17 hour save to a bug.
he got the Slavic vibe
a damka is a chess piece, a chess queen. chiki briki i v damki - an expression of how a pawn becomes a queen of the game. Bandits used the expression.
baton - bread, stalker food)
prekrasna dolina in the screen - zona, and maslina - that's what the bandytes called the bullet.
Oh, how you praised the song. I really liked it myself. She charmed your musical ear, a truly beautiful song. Чики-чики Брики, и в дамки.
Kirya bard can be found on their channel with Lenich. You can hear other songs.
Dear Dave, the high-note strings you listened to in the beginning are most likely balalaikas or maybe mandolins.
Cheeki breki i v dmree it part of bandit slang and means something like "we are kill you" (and this is one of the famous phrases from stalker)
The cultural element you were looking for is that the instrumental is very reminiscent of balkan and general slavic music.
The bug in the end is the bug that every stalker player familiar with. It happens when S.T.A.L.K.E.R. crashes all the time
i must say that stalker is probably the greatest impact Ukraine had on the gaming world. yeah, its a Ukrainian game. i know that, because i am Ukrainian. Also, this song has very strong Ukrainian vibes. obviously, there is some Ukrainian language mixed in there, like Прекрасна долина(Beautiful valley) and Батон(a type of white bread). Theres also the strong Ukrainian accent.
It is more correct to say a Slavic accent)
Always remember the devs lost to the zone
ЧИКИ БРИКИ В ДАМКИ!
Hey Dave, the "Crash" at the end is because both Stalker games has bugs which could crash the game and i think that's what its referencing, the crashes.
Удивительно, что вам понравилась атмосфера сталкера
dave you should react to the brittle bones nicky trilogy by rare americans
the original stalkers would often crash due to the x ray engine, i have lost thousands of times to it.
8:10 the X-Ray enginee was tthe game enginee the first S.T.A.L.K.E.R games where running on ^^
чики брики и в дамке!
8:25 популярный баг сталкера) я думаю
it is set in ukraine at chernobyl and you can best see that in the part where they say prekrasna dolina which means beautiful valey.
Чики Чики брики хе-хе-хе 👍
On 6:14 you said it was a geiger counter, but it seems to me that these are spoons (a slavic musical instrument) flowing into the counter
Yes, to me it also sounds like the spoons (Russian/Ukrainian folk makeshift castanets), switching to Geiger counter sound with the same rythm.
They a russians
Слышать ушам приятно , подтверждаю.
@@sagifatdas643 так рофл в том что они руско говорящие так что да.
@@irvinekinny How long has Moscow and the region become the Far East? You've got something wrong, they're from the very heart of Russia.

Hey Dave Could you please react to Hokus Pokus by Insane Clown Posse?
А ну чики брики и в дамки
The game takes place in urkrain so that language is russian
Очень странно слушать песню явно созданную по канонам русского около-народного творчества, но с текстом на английском языке. Очень странно эое чувство.
No its sluvic
All unknown words its in Ukrainian language
Всё это выглядит словно я, как сельский человек послушал Моцарта или Шопенгауэра. Это настолько нелепо, если не разбираешься в атмосфере вселенной игры, зачем эти видео?
As Ukrainian ima say it feels completely stupid and goofy, cos it feels more russian when it should be. Especially unnecessary ascent. Like...ok but bruh
Please remove this crap! UA-cam keeps interupting my music playlist with it!
Nope is Russian language
All the words in the song, which are written in Cyrillic, are Ukrainian: baton, prekrasna dolyna, maslyna, and are pronounced clearly in Ukrainian, although the authors seem to be from russia.
@@luckydssd the Devs aren't from Russia, neither are the makers of the song
@@IDFKaname7890chalkeaters are actually from russia

I love the Ukrainian accent in this song. It conveys the whole atmosphere of the zone.
дякую за огляд.
thanks for the review.
Yooooo you're jazz musician???
Love to see you play yo sax someday homie
Very soon!
Guys, please dont try to translate non eng words on Ruzzians, this is Ukrainian.
