Krotoszyn is a former trade and craft center, founded in 1415 by Wierzbięta from the Krotoski family of Łódź under the privileges of King Władysław Jagiełło.
The city is located in the southern part of the Greater Poland Voivodeship, close to the border with the Lower Silesian Voivodeship and halfway between Poznań and Wrocław.
