MP ANUBHAV MOHANTY’s EMOTIONAL SPEECH ON JUNIOR ARTISTS, TECHNICIANS, DANCERS, STUNTMEN IN LOK SABHA

- Actor and Politician, Hon’ble Member of Parliament, Shri Anubhav Mohanty gave an emotional speech during the ‘Zero Hour’ today in the Lok Sabha. He raised some very genuine concerns about Artists, Junior Artists, Technicians, Background Dancers, Stuntmen and others connected to Film/Television/Entertainment world in India as he himself has a lot of experiences regarding their painful lives & particularly during pandemics like Covid 19.
Shri Mohanty suggested few things to be taken up immediately in-order to safeguard the interests of such Entertainers, Technicians and Daily waivers to the Government of India. He even gave an example of an artist who was being treated in a private hospital. That artist breathed his last but his family wasn’t able to release his deadbody for the last rituals unless a political leader intervened into his matter!
Here is the brief (in English) of what Shri Mohanty spoke in the August House during the Budget Session’ 2023 today in the Lok Sabha👇🏻
“The plight of the Artists, Junior Artists, technicians, Stuntmen, Dancers of the regional Cinemas/Television/ Theaters is miserable. As such these artists are poorly paid that too on a daily wage basis and if are lucky may manage to get work for only 5-6 months in a year when the shooting is on. On top of it the pandemic lockdown further ruined their lives. Whole life they had been entertaining everyone and now they are struggling to get just two morsels of food for themselves and their families.
As I am from the same field and have good amount of experience of their sufferings and needs I am in a position to give suggestions which will benefit them the most and they are:
1. A benevolent fund may be created for providing relief to these artists during distress or financial crisis.
2. Medical insurance to cover all the medical requirements.
3. Cheap rental accommodation to all these artists and some policies under the Housing Schemes so that they can afford a home for them.
4. A pension scheme for these artists so that they can survive once they are out of job or are incapacitated due to permanent injury while on work or due to medical reasons or old age.”
