THIS IS SUCH A COOL IDEA...I'm already sat with some popcorn. I love the content you've been making!!!! this is such a fun way to look at beauty and also the way you're weaving your beauty and music knowledge makes this genuinely so fun to watch.
@Lacyskelly: There are thousands of women with music knowledge, historical knowledge & beauty knowledge. It's not a rare trait to have among intelligent women.
Someone else already said your look and the vibes for this video are immaculate and I just have to second that. I’m literally 4 seconds in and your hair and makeup are actual goals and I know the contents gonna be excellent
Fun video and the Nature Republic lippies you recommend from Yes Style are sooooo good. I totally trust your lippie recommendations! When I saw this title the first person that popped into my head was Cher. Her outfits that Bob Mackie created were off the charts! I can tell you had fun with this one :)
@@StateofKait LOL there are so many to choose from. I also thought of Marilyn Monroe and Liz Taylor. I was thinking didn't Michael J try to look like Diana Ross with all his transformations? Maybe I am making that up!
How is Julia Fox on the list but not the Karjenners? The Karjenners might not be iconic to some people but Kylie really did cause a lip filler trend. So many women look like the Karjenners from their small waist, BBL, brows, and lips. Kylie's "glow-up" made people see her beauty was attainable so they went out and got themselves surgeries/injections.
For multiple reasons: 1. This video is about celebrities who challenged societal norms. I’m not sure Kylie did that. She certainly impacted culture, but I don’t know that she broke norms. 2. There are tons of celebrities I could’ve picked but I chose the ones I liked best. Kylie Jenner’s been talked about a million times, I’m bored of hearing about her and the Kardashian/Jenners.
@@StateofKait I understand you. Many are also bored of hearing about them, but we can't deny how influential they are/were to the beauty culture whether we like or hate them. So many lookalikes out there, it's scary. That's why you're one of my faves Kait! You are authentic and analytic. I feel a sigh of relief when I watch your videos lol.
Cause being a trendsetter and going against beauty standards is not the same, and they’re doing the former. Or at least trying so, theyre more just stealing from cultures and bringing them to white women. Also the list contains people who left a *positive* impact on beauty standards, not screwed up girls for generations. The people in this video took what was insecurities, like gender expression, and inspired empowerment. Karjeners exploit insecurities they help create to sell you laxatives to lose weight and package them as suplements
I’m an ancient Xennial, so I lived lip filler history. Kylie didn’t start the lip filler trend. She only made it popular for very, very young people to get the same fillers adult women had been getting for decades. That really started for women in the 90s when Angelina Jolie became famous. And it kept increasing throughout the 00s and early 2010s as white women co-opted more and more Black beauty standards. She did popularize a marketing strategy: selling a lipstick and lipliner in a set. But she did it by misleading customers. For years, Kylie insisted she hadn’t had any lip fillers, and that her fuller lips were entirely due to using those lip kits with techniques she learned from MUAs. Lots of companies copied that once she did it. She’s great at marketing and amplifying existing and emerging trends. That’s not shade! She’s an extremely astute business woman. But she hasn’t challenged them or innovated a new approach to style the way Julia Fox or Bowie or Grace Jones have.
I never realized until now that it was a thing to pose with cellphones back in the 90's 😹 I loved Gwen Stefani and "I know we're cool" and I was so disappointed when I saw that she started styling herself like any other influencer in the past few years. No individuality anymore. I've never heard of Lauren Conrad and haven't really seen any of the trends mentioned here, we also don't have those magazines in my country so perhaps that's why. Also not really my circle.
Cat-calling is not negative unless it's mean & vicious. Your average cat-calling is a compliment. Just wait til you ladies get to be in your mid 60's and the cat-calls stop.
@@StateofKait I don't believe it to be 'objectifying'. GOD created man to love a woman. It's natural for a man to whistle at a pretty girl as she walks by.
My mom has a similar mindset as you. She likes cat calling. She said one day I'll miss it. I never enjoyed it as a teen and still don't at 38. It's uncomfortable to me and unsafe.
@@jyn88 Try not to worry so much. It'll be ok. I mean unless they're screaming something vicious or mean, it's ok, they're just admiring you. Nothing to get upset about. You're a beautiful girl, so that's the natural male reaction. 😘😘😘

This was fun ❤
YES!!!!! these are the videos from you i live for!!
Yay! I think this is my favorite video I've ever done.
I have a sweater and blouse by LC, and it's actually really nice clothes. Also, the clothes are still popular on poshmark.
great video ❤
I enjoyed this video so much 🤩
I miss the Gwen Stefani in this video 😔
All great icons! Especially Grace Jones. She is otherworldly.
NOBODY does it like Grace. I had the privilege of seeing her perform live a few years ago and it was transcendent.

where is hannah montana? :D
Girll how was Britney not in this!!
This video focus on artists who broke societal norms, I’m not sure if/how Britney did that!
20:33 not even kim?
No because Laguna Beach first aired in 2004 and KUWTK didn't air until 2007.
Hmmmm.... You don't mention that it might be STYLISTS and HAIRDRESSERs who might INVENTED their looks and weren't given any credits for this!!!!😮
