The live love laugh thing really saved me 🤡 so you're not wrong lol
😮 This ship has hearts in it
“Live laugh love” energy is the exact description I gave my husband.
I also hold books that deal with depression to a higher standard than I might some fun and fluffy book. So many people with depression turn to books for solace and guidance.
It unironically helped me a good bit a few month ago. I was in a really big emotional slump and I feel like I just needed to hear from someone else to keep going. I have to say that I don't have depression and I can see why it could even be harmful to read for someone with strong depression because you don't just magically wake up somewhere after committing and then everything turns out good if you just live, laugh and life lol
Jesse: "I hate romance" *transition*
Jesse: "..... I love this!"
HAHAHAH
I hate romance too and now I wanna read Twice Shy 😂
Relatable😭
Watching jesse have a crisis over loving a romance book is hilarious😂😂
Plot twist of 2022: Jesse becoming a romance books lover hahahaha
I'm watching this 2 months later and he has admitted to now liking romance 😂
he had a whole identity crisis over liking a romance book and i loved every second of it, it was too funny, amazing character development
“Just like my BUTT this book was FLAT” 🤣🤣 still making me laugh almost 10 years later
okay, do a “24 hour reading only romance books challenge” NOW
NOW.
13:05 I relate to this so much 😂😂 I hardly read romance (just don’t enjoy the genre) and when I do and end up enjoying a romance book it feels sus 😅
Me when I end up picking an erotica
I read Midnight Library a year ago when I was at an extremely hard place with my life, thoughts etc. and it helped me tremendously to feel better. For this reason alone I'll always cherish it.

Your reaction over liking the adult romance, I was laughing so much. Never be afraid of testing new stuff!
I love your reaction to Twice Shy! It makes me want to read it… and makes me trust your recommendations even more. You’re able to ignore your preferences and experience the book for itself. Bravo!
Hey!ua-cam.com/channels/8agRIoB7iWuWT4NJlMV66A.html
Honestly, if you can’t bully your best friend, are you really even best friends?
TRUE.
Why is Jessie being best friends with Elias news to me???
it kind of developed over the pandemic lol
Thanks for posting!! Haven’t been doing the best mentally, but trying to get my reading game back in gear!
hope you start to feel better! sending positive thoughts!
Thank you ❤️
I actually liked midnight library, I think it’s a book u need to read and only then u can decide whether u like it or not. Its summaries and descriptions don’t do the book justice.
Loved The Midnight Library, but I totally get why people wouldn't enjoy it. Also this makes me want to read Twice Shy! I love a good slow burn romance.
jesse liking a romance book should have been on the 2022 bingo board
Jesse your editing is straight fire, I haven't watched your vids in about 4 years and (although I thought it was impossible then) you have upped your game!
And you haven't aged at all it's funny
I feel like giggles is an underrated word😂
agreed! lol
Why is he litterally the most pure person on the planet! This whole video is so wholesome (and funny) love the video from one bookworm to another
I really liked the Midnight library. I have depression and I would love to see how things would have ended up if I would have made different decisions. Although I can see why not everyone would. I think Matt Haig himself has also had depression, so it's not like he doesn't know anything about it.
What a great premise for a video! I've actually seen the video where Cindy rips apart that book so I'm all aboard. I've also seen another booktuber review "The Maidens" with spoilers so I know what you are talking about. XD
This is literally my worst Monday of the year… thanks Jesse for making it a little bit better
sorry you're having such a bad day! i hope things get better for you.
@@jessethereader it’s okay, I guess we all have bad and better days. This too shall pass.. but thank you 🙏 I hope it all goes back to normal soon! Your video really helped me disconnect for a while so I really appreciate it!
sending care your way!
Praying for you! 💞
Thank you everyone!! ❤️ You are so kind!🤗
As a romance-avoidant reader who recently decided to give romance books a shot, I NEED TO KNOW...
...why Jesse hates romance books. Spill the tea.
Wanna know too lol
Romance novels tend to be bad
@@addheading I think that there are good romance books out there. The issue is too many bad romance books are given the green light to be published simply because a bad romance book is more palatable than a bad (insert any other genre) book. Cuz ~ loveee ~ and what not. And good grief, there are some truly, TRULY terrible romance books out there. It’s a shame honestly.
Btw I am not a romance reader.
Right now a lot of romance novels have very sexist treatments of one or both partners. I rarely dip back in because I read hundreds growing up and most never address consent or like not hitting your spouse. There's a lot I read which fully lean into the she's horny = she's consenting area, and, eww. So it's less romance and more how modern day romance is.
This is my take and my guess in one.
This is has got t be one of my favorite video ideas ever. I honestly love everything Jesse does.
ok i'm OBSESSED with this video topic! i loved hearing your thoughts on each book and how it compared with each person. i keep debating Midnight Library, but i've put it off because of all the reasons you mentioned and cindy did! also i am DYING at you loving twice shy. it's high on my tbr and now i'm even more excited for it!!
This was such a fun video and such an interesting concept. So many people post worst and best around Christmas and its nice to take that and make something a little different and interesting out of it. Always nice to see different book tastes affect your reading experience
Romance novels get a bad reputation but I think it’s such a broad genre and can be so enjoyable!! There’s just so much in the genre I feel like almost anyone could find something they’d enjoy.
This whole video had me laughing 😂 the quote about the character in The Maidens being flatter then your butt killed me 😂
I’ve been loving all your energy, content and amazing edits you’ve been creating in 2022!
Such a funny video concept lol. I liked that you still chose books you thought you might enjoy
thanks! :D
Thanks for posting! I was having an awful day and you made my day a bit better! As usual, your video was wonderful!
I love this format. This was super entertaining! Great content as always, Jesse!
I just got home from a 10 hour shift. The moment I open UA-cam, Jessie posted a video about my favourite book tubers 🥰🥰🥰
Love it!!!
I’ve not been feeling like myself for the past few days and for real this video had me genuinely laughing and smiling. It really made my day. Thank you Jesse!
I can not get enough of your videos! I get so excited when I see you’ve posted 😋 thank you Jesse!!
I honestly enjoyes this vlog! Like a lot. I hope you make more of these, may be on a different theme? Like reading romance booktuber's favourite book?
OMG I LOVE that you loved the romance! I used to be super romance-repulsed and avoided it in every possible way. Which is totally valid, but personally opening myself up to romance has been so great for me. It’s been so much fun and made me so happy and after a while of purposely reading romance books I’ve come to fully embrace my love for it in books! 🤗💗📚
Jesse!! I've been missing your videos this week, so glad you're back with this today ❤
I personally loved The Midnight Library, sorry you didn't love it though. I would recommend picking up some of Matt Haig's non fictions, his Reasons to Stay Alive is amazing, makes you learn more about him.
jesse, this video was so fun!!! i was laughing during every review! thanks for posting 😁
You are a gem. I just had a really bad panic attack, sth I hadn‘t experienced in years, but your humor and enthusiasm helped me calm down. Thank you very much!
This was such a fun video to watch! Thanks so much for your hard work 😁
JESSE....This is my new favourite video of yours.
This is a very cool concept and video 👍🏽! You losing it over the fact that you loved a romance book was so good 😂! Btw, the editing is amazing 👌🏽!
Oh my goodness I loved this. Thanks for making this video because this really made me smile so much.
I love your video concepts a lot but i just cant jive with your editing style 😭
I can imagine Jess's shock after reading Twice Shy; I had the exact same reaction after reading You Deserve Each Other. Sarah Hogle is a gem!! As for TS, I think I had too much expectation so I didn't find it as much promising as I hoped it to be? Nonetheless, the book was great!! If you like TS, please check out YDEO. It's hilarious!!
Also, not all romance books are the same. I started the genre with hopes but they were crushed. Probably I'm into the Sarah Hogle genre.
Jessee discovering he loves romance makes me so happy 🥺 I've always read SFF/horror and discovered romance last fall and it's been GAME CHANGER
AHHHH im screaming not all of my favs jesse you are absolute best 🥰🥰
The fact that every single review I have seen for The Maidens just absolutely trashes it makes me feel so much better about not being able to get into it. I just had the ick from the beginning, DNF'd at 50 pages. Boring and apparently not even good.
Helloo. This video is great! I want to say I’m one of those people that actually found the midnight library helpful, but I’m kinda a sucker for inspirational quotes lol. I do find they help me on rougher days because I can’t find anything positive to say in my own brain…so it just kinda makes me pause and find a new lens to see the world through. Not necessarily the authors, but it makes me pause and find a refreshed way to look at things if that makes sense.
I’m someone who beats myself up a lot over decisions I’ve made, and get in loops in my head of how if maybe I did one thing in a different way, I’d be happier. So this book made me think on that, and was a good reminder that maybe I can’t go back in time, but I can work on shaping my present into what I want it to be.
One line I really liked is how Matt says something along the lines of “We feel like a black hole, but we’re a volcano and we can tend the land to grow into a forest again” (terrible paraphrase but I think you might know what I’m talking about). For me personally, it was a good reminder that even though I was going through a time where I felt really empty and with nothing positive inside myself, that quote gave me something to hold onto at the time that I might make it out of how I was feeling / what I was going through. (Note that I’m not saying this or any quote magically fixed and transformed my life, that doesn’t happen. It just gave me that bit of hope to hold onto and I think we just need that sometimes)
I can understand how he’s not for everyone, but his quotes really get me through the day sometimes, just as that smidge of hope.
I also want to note that Matt Haig does struggle with his own mental health. I think he actually had to take a break off social media since the end of last year because of it and still has not been around since. He’s writing out of his own experiences with it, and maybe like a dad preaching out of what’s been helpful for his in his personal struggles with all the best in heart. And yeah, maybe dads will get it wrong sometimes, buuut they try?
Thank you for your reviews and I’m looking forward to more of your videos. You’re super entertaining and adorable 😊💞
Jesse i just love how you do your videos, you always do a amazing job!
Thanks!
SHOCKED AND OVERJOYED THAT YOU FINALLY ENJOYED A ROMANCE BOOK?!??!!! It’s going straighttttt to my tbr
I LOVED THIS VIDEO now you should read the books you're going to love for sure!!!!
I had so much fun watching you freak out over loving the romance book LOL Loved the idea and the video, but especially that freak out
honestlyyyy watching people's best of 2021 videos have had me questioning my sanity because so many of them have been filled with my personal worst books of the year, so i could see the appeal of wanting to read someone's least fave :')
AHHH living for the romance book awakening!!! you should try People We Meet On Vacation by Emily Henry for another cute romance vibe (even though I haven't read Twice Shy so I can't really compare properly); also, it was on Cindy's best-of videos if you decided to do a reverse situation type video 👀
this is my first video i've seen of yours and I'm cackling. This was great, and I really liked listening to your thoughts!
I love this videooo!!! We need moreee!!! 💛💛
I have to say you ending this video asking for slowburn romance recommendations... I'm pretty sure that will me my most unexpected plot twist of 2022. Could not have seen that coming AT ALL. I loved the concept though and your videos always just make me smile!
Romance books you might like, Jesse 💙
-get a life, chloe brown
-the love hypothesis
-beach read
-spanish love deception
-people we meet on vacation
I feel like he doesn't like sex heavy books so half these might not be his thing but Emily Henry seems like a perfect fit
This may be out of topic, but your skin looks amazing Jesse!!!! GLOWING!
I LOVED this video concept. Would love to see more similar videos
omg It's been a minute since I have watched one of your videos but like first thing i see is that we have the same laptop cover. It confirms exactly why I subscribed in the first place.
So I, like you don’t really read romance novels but really enjoyed the audiobook of Beach Read by Emily Henry. It was a slow burn between two young, but established writers. both the charecters are well fleshed out, and I loved this book (it was also read by my favourite audiobook reader
Another Jesse's great videos!
You make my day brighter.
My life isn't going the best direction right now, and seeing you and books (cause I'm not allowed to read!) Just makes my day brighter.
God bless. ❤️💖
Jesse freaking out about loving a romance book is just a whole MOOD
I personally never read romance book. Unless it's tragic. 😂
If I ever liked a romance book, i would freak out too.
You going crazy over liking a romance book was so funny to watch. And I swear I had butterflies watching you gush over it. I have been in a reader's slump for 2years now and I am trying to get back to reading, and watching your videos kinda helps peek my interests. Anyways hope you find even more romance books that you love.
loved this. maybe i just choose the wrong videos to watch, but i feel like more often i see you talking about books you havent read, than ones that you have, and i have to say the latter is just way more interesting. nice to hear your thoughts about them, and i think this premise is just so fun as long as the books are that right kind of /bad/ like the so bad its good, or in the case of the last one, just good!
i feel the same abt reading romance books, i think im way more inclined to love the ones i pick up just because i basically never read them. its the same with thriller/contemporary mysteries. again not a genre i ever read, but when i do im so enthralled because im not used to it. then ill look at reviews online and everyone says its terrible lmao. but they probably know more about the genre and are able to be more critical!
This was one of my favorite videos that you’ve done. I laughed so hard 😂
Yayyyy I'm so happy you loved Twice Shy it was one of my faves from last year ❤️
This is my favourite of your videos ever ❤
YES WELCOME TO THE WORLD OF ROMANCE BOOKS JESSE
Also loved how the one you went in thinking you'd dislike you loved but all the others you thought you'd love you hated :P
Now you gotta read the favorites of these three!!!!
i love this kind of video from you!
I really enjoyed the Midnight Library. As a teenager I went through the growing up depressed stage.
I do think thought that you don't necessarily need depression to be depressed but what we think of when we hear depression (despite being the word for 'in a state of being depressed') is so singular that I feel like it's a bit one-sided to say 'a depressed person wouldn't do this'.
Just my thoughts though.
I had the exact same thoughts about The Maidens, so this was so satisfying.
I read The Maidens this year too and...I'll just say this, I could tell it was women written by a man...
Omg. This.
It’s painfully obvious in The Silent Patient also 😅
@@ajknight8640 IKR
I'm going to read it but I could tell it was written by a man when I put it on hold at the library.
JESSE BOY THE PLOT TWIST AT THE END OF THE VIDEO 😳😳😂😂
I really like the art prints behind you! The Midnight Library has been on my tbr and every time I hear about it people don't like it 😅 very unfortunate. This was a great video!
I really enjoyed it! I can see why it goes both ways for people, but it could be worth a shot :)
@@bibilbophile thanks for letting me know! :)
LOVED this video. your content has been fire this season. we see u. damn. doing the thing. churning out the assignment to your friendly fan bookwhores.
This was so heckin fun!!!!!! Great idea Jesse 🖤
Okay I actually love this video
I wish it was a reading vlog though... seeing all your live reactions while reading these 'worst' books would be fun😜
I love you!! You're so funny! ahah It's always a pleasure watching your videos! (sorry for my english, I'm french-canadien)
Also, for some slow burn romance/ fanstasy, a good book is The traitor's kiss by Erin Beaty. The main character is young, but it's an underrated book (in my opinion).
i loved that you loved twice shy, it was such a cute book!
You having a crisis over liking a romance novel made my day... literally the highlight of today!
i loved this video idea haha I hope you do it again some day!
Damn, both The Midnight Library and The Maidens are on my list of books I really want to read this year 🤣🤣 hadn't even heard of Twice Shy 🙈
I enjoyed The midnight library! You should try it if you feel doing so, everyone has different taste 🤟🏽
@@halyketarrant this is true 😄
Its fun hearing about the midnighg library when i read matt haigs book about his mental ilnesses and not the midnight library. Bc there are worlds in between his experience, writing style and dealing with the situation.
I loved this video. I’d love to see you do this again on some level with different booktubers.
My worst book I think was Bunny. It was too odd for me. Too much a fever dream. I wasn’t invested in any of the characters. I did give it a three star but really it should have been a two.
This was such a fun video. And please can everyone give this man some more slow burns to read he’s been missing out
I LOVE THE PLOT TWIST AT THE END OF THE VIDEO
One of my personal favorite slow burn romances was The Wall of Winnipeg and Me
by Mariana Zapata it also has a grumpy sunshine trope which I enjoy
If you're interested on reading more of Sarah Hogle, You deserve each other is one of my favorite romance books, you mentioned that you like unlikeable characters, personally Naomi is one of them, and i love her too lol. I hope you find the right romance for you
ok jesse really popped off with this video, some of his best work😌👌
Five plus stars for your shirt game in this video, especially the black and white and the plaid!
The short chapter thing is seriously a plus. I remember once reading a book, waiting for a natural endpoint to put it down and go to bed, and then realized it was just three chapters and the second chapter was almost the entire fucking book. I am very pro-chapter. Bonus points for chapter breaks.
1:26 Mood.
K but a friend of mine sent me this video cause of that last book and your reaction to it. The way you feel about that romance book is cute, the way you describe the romance in the book as cute, cute. Also, your comments section is amazing, so much love and positivity from your viewers - that alone has me tempted to binge watch your channel. I think your presentation is a little too... "flashy"? TikTok-y? for my tastes, but the fact that your viewers are just so... *good * says a lot about you and your content. So yeah, anyway, I hope that all sounds like a compliment, that's what I'm trying to say.
can i just say you’re freaking adorable. i read every single day since most of my life but this is the first time i’m joining a reading community, i hope this becomes a thing i really enjoy, i had been looking at midnight library but am still on the fence. loved the video, this is so much fun and very inclusive feeling for readers!
ps. guys any suggestions for harry potter fanfiction communities/youtubers? i know i’m one too many years late in the game, please help a girl out!
There's so much to discover in the booktube community, it has become really huge :)! Unfortunately, with the controversy surrounding JK Rowling in the last couple of years (transphobia), booktubers have pretty much stopped promoting Harry Potter stuff... Just thought I'd let you know if you hadn't heard of it.
Jesse having an identity crisis about romance books is super adorable.
I’m a hater of romance in books because so many of them are done poorly, but I still read some romance books because they can surprise me and be well done.
Honestly, I had the exact same stance on romance up until last year until I found some really good ones, and the giddy, happy dance is a must
character growth, embrace the romance!!
