  • Nursing students ask me all the time how I got into wound nursing... well, here is your chance to find out!! Are you a nursing student in the San Diego area? If you end up doing clinicals at Scripps Encinitas, I would love to have you shadow me for the day. I LOVE wound nursing, and I love showing RN students how to do wound vac dressing changes. :)

I’m here to help you Level Up! During my time at CSUSM's Accelerated Bachelor's of Nursing program, I helped my fellow classmates who were struggling with the exam, pass and graduate. After receiving my BSN I went on to become an RN at Scripps Encinitas Hospital. Ive been an Rn since 2003. I was told that since I had Rn and a bachelors with 1500 hours of wound experience , I could challange the wound board exam. I studied from all the books the universities were using and flash cards thru the WOCNBC. I took the CWCN IN 2017!!! I’ve been working in a wound care center since 2017. Tomorrow I start at an LTAC as a wound nurse. After 1 year at this new job they will pay for my OSTOMY CERT!!! I feel so lucky to love what I do !!

I can tell you’re a great nurse. I am medical assistant myself and so glad I got the opportunity to work with a WCC nurse. I learned how to do wound care, measurements and even wound vac dressing changes. What I love about wound care is how the progression of the wound healing. It’s amazing. Long term goal is to be a RN, and specialize in wounds like you. Great video. 😊

I have been researching all the ways I can get my cert through the experiential pathway. I have been in home health doing wound care since 2020. I was so nervous about wounds at first, and now I enjoy it. Thank you for posting information about this. It is hard figuring out how to get started down this path. If anyone has any advice, please let me know! I am all ears :).

This sounds like ie a great job for me!!!
Usually I feel so anxious when I hear about certain nursing fields but hearing about this one brings me a since of peace, it sounds like something that I can do. Im not build for the intensity that certain nursing fields bring. To each their own.

Being specialized and working with one patient in a very detailed way is really attractive to me. What are other examples of jobs in the hospital that sort of fit into this work style? Is there anything like this you can get into as a new grad?

Don’t you just hate when you ask your boss or supervisor for position and they make any excuse as to why they don’t have anything but as soon as you’re about to leave all of a sudden they have the exact position that you want open? That happened to me as a home health aide. I practically begged for full-time day hours and they just never had any until I told them that I’m going at orientation for another job and then “all of a sudden” a full time day shift became available. No ma’am, I’m already hired here.

Good for you! I hope your new position is working out! Managers definitely need to listen carefully to their employees and help support their goals... otherwise good employees will take other positions and you'll have to start all over and train someone else.
