Agree no bs
Facts man
Yeah I was thinking the same, such a great quality Strongman podcast
Since Hafthor is back on Training Im hyped again for watching Strongman Comps again.
Yes he was missed by a lot of fans.
In my opinion it's a shame that we've got the best lineup ever and a pretty underwhelming set of events. Frame and dinnie stones seems excessive for a 5-event comp. Would have much preferred wheel of pain or a squat for reps to give more balance.
Yeah definitely would've preferred basically anything over the dinnie stones
A heavy viking walk would have been epic for this year considering the line up
I'm half Scottish, I am proud Britain has some of the best stone holders and carriers in the World, but🍑, they need to abandon Dinnies and Nicol stones in major strongman shows. Its about pain and balance, not how strong you are.
Yah man Squat for reps!!!
@@RubbishGimpyI agree to an extent that it is too prevalent rn, but it is arguably the best test of grip endurance and overall body endurance. But ye having that AND a frame is pretty dumb imo.
Hooper also said he was struggling with a groin injury. Hope everyone is healthy for that deadlift. Gonna be crazy
I agree, it will be crazy and awsome at the same time 😅
I think your right with Deadlift, Thor 1, Bobby 2, Tom or Hoops 3. Should be a interesting showdown. Cheers guys, love your content. 💪
Yeah, it seems like he haven't lost a step when it comes to deadlift.
Thor is winning the DL. Maybe looses points on the axel this early in his comeback he was a fantastic presser in the past. Podium for sure, at the very least
Podium will be a great sucess after so short of a time
Pic at 3:20 is just cruel 😅😂
😆😆
I can’t wait for this contest. It’s seriously exciting.
Yep 100% 😎
Great video again guys.
My worry is that an ageing Thor could be more prone to injury, other than that he's looking as good as ever.
Best no-bullshit channel, happy for your videos guys
Bobby is definitely gonna be fighting the hardest to beat Thor, as he really needs to win the deadlift to get a good placing overall. Mitch, Martins & Tom all have other events they are going to do well on.
I don't think that Bobby can beat Thor in deadlift, he probably be second. But than again everything is possible on the day.
@@LalasBrothers totally agree
Great video as always ❤🎉 Thanks Guys
Our pleasure! 😊
You guys deserve so many more subscribers! You do some on point content! Keep it up
Thank you 🙏
I dont believe thor will push it that hard. He still has contests down the road this year but I can easily see him making sure he gets 3rd or above on this event and podium finish overall
He doesnt have to push, nobody stands a chance against him in the deadlift!
Sure. If he wins the deadlift, that's one event. What about the other 4? Winning one event doesn't mean you win all the events.
@@JoshuaOdionson offcourse yes, thats different story.
No way in my view he doesn’t take the deadlift, he won’t be able to resist it.
You said that no one pulled over 1000 last year but they did the Wheel of Pain first which takes a lot out of them .Mitch and Bobby would have done over 1000 if it would have been the first event
Bobby BARELY got 985lbs. It was massively hitched. I agree perhaps there could've been 1000lbs there had it been the first event but I think that would be the absolute maximum. Not to mention they were allowed briefs last year and they weren't any year before. Also in 2018 the elephant bar was on day 2 and 3 people pulled over 1000lbs without briefs and Thor got 1041.
@@Adam-gn5kh If JF Caron never got injured he would be a strong 2nd place
@@reallymysterious4520 JF was a crazy deadlifter.
last year they also had briefs, this year none
Love your videos.
Well said bros 🎉
Thank you 😊
I’m just curious about the overhead and dinney stone event, I’m sure he is training them hard but he is keeping that quiet atm so it’s hard for me to say he will win the competition without knowing where he stands overhead and with the dinney stone
He just might be ok with overhead, it doesn't seem that there is any shift in his body during the lifts. Pec does work in axle press, but in my apinion shoulders and triceps strength is dominant in this movement. When it comes to dinney stones, it's a very awkward and unpredictable event.
Mateusz is my favorite strongman. But like it has been said. Points are going to be all over the place in this comp! I think Tom wins the axle. I think Mateusz wins tombstone and stone medley.
Itll be a great show until the dinnie stones comes out...i get the grip style event but this isnt a grip event. Its a hook grip and balance until you die type event which is meh compared to other grip style events you couldve done or endurance
Agreed
Such a shame that he ever reited. Hope to see him win. He's like Z and Brian...massively strong and just loves the sport.
Can’t wait for Arnold’s
Lalas is calling Thor a freak, but he almost beat Big Z at 2012 WSM being less than 6 feet tall. You my friend are an awesome freak!
😁 🤜🤛
My favorite strongman boys!
About a month ago I honestly thought it would be a bit beyond him this year. But now I think he possibly could, I just he doesn’t injure himself in the process though.
Everybody has said it. No mistakes or else you drop from the podium. I think at worst, hes 3rd place. Hes definitely came back fast.
Yes he did came back impressively fast and well.
If he is as smart as he was- he will just do enough to win the event. Sort of the reason the last Arnolds he did he pulled less than the year before because there was no need.
Most likely that's what he will do, just do enough to win the event.
I think most strongmen will lift 400kg minimum, Max, Mateusz and Oskar I doubt will. Their deadlifts from recent comps have been no lifts or too weak. A lift of 420-440kg will dictate the positioning, who will be the 1000lb pullers, Thor, Bobby, Mitch, Martins, a healthy Oleksii, Tom and T. Evans are both strong deadlifters and improving. It will be a Thor, Bobby and one more that will push towards that record. Bobby wants the American deadlift record.
Isn't this lift raw without straps? I'm sure I heard no straps allowed but from their training it seems unlikely, everyone will be fresh too as the deadlift is the first event. This will break some strongmen, Tom and Licis will only do what they need to for the overall competion. This is the most exciting strongman competion for years.
I am pretty sure straps will be allowed and yes it will be very exiting competition 😊
Mateusz couldn't even do 900 lbs as a partial deadlift let alone on an elephant bar
@@Vampire__Squid Its a shame really. Like Trey and his grip.
Briefs and suits aren't allowed, straps are and have been allowed.
Hafthor is absolute alpha male of the planet! Nobody stands a chance against him in deadlift!
Yep 😅
Will be between Thor and Hooper this year. Thor gonna bank on the deadlift, if he manages to make good with the frame and end top 3 then is his to loose given points will be all over the place through the competition. Thor might not get as may reps on the Axl, but who will? People underestimate the Arnold's Axl, it hits different far as I know
You are right about axle, it does hit different 😅
The question is whether he *should* try to break his record or rather conserve energy and just go for the event win.
I hope he will go for the competition win.
Best strongman channel on youtube
I think Thor will be in the top 3 be some return if he wins 💪 love ur videos
I think Thor will be capable of breaking the record, but he won’t have to. Maybe if they offer him big money for an extra attempt to break the record, then he’ll go for it.
I can't wait to see who wins I think thor has a good chance
After watching his training video, i think he does have a chance too.
I wonder if Thor wins the DL, will he still have enough in the tank to keep up with the rest of the contest. It will be interesting to see how his conditioning holds up.
His conditioning didn't look to great in his training session, but he still have 4 weeks to improve a little bit.
I would rather see him win the competition.
He just might 😅
Thor loves the crowd. He likes a filled donut in the gym.🍩 THOR WILL BE IN THE TOP TWO.
Very possible
Thor has already won even if someone lifts heavier than him. He's immense.
Lalas thinks he "could" win but also thinks the winner cannot afford to drop out of top 5, but I haven't seen anything that makes me think hafthor will get a rep on the axle yet, seen him press 150 and it look hard
I doubted Hafthor so many times and been wrong so many times. (injuries are actually the only way I have been proven correct......but I wasn't even considering that)
He will be capable of it but won't need to and will not exert the unnecessary energy
I know that he will give it all on the day and it's possible that it might be enough to win it.
Time will tell... it's not the same strongman he was at before.. I will be surprised to see him t
Top 5
I thought the same, but dude looks pretty strong at the moment.
There's a reason Thor is posting training footage for only two out of five events. He was squatting and deadlifting heavy for his powerlifting prep so it should be no surprise that he's already as strong as he is on the deadlift.
Well he has posted some frame & stone medleys. But his pressing is behind due to the pec tear that's no secret
He’s literally posted footage training every event
No he won't. He would need a few more months
I do think it will be between Tom and Hooper, but Thor looks very impressive 4 weeks out, so just never know .
Between hooper's groin injury at the time and the fact that the deadlift was after their lower bodies were already shot, I think hooper will be closer than you give him credit for but I do agree Hafthor is winning that event.
Lol I disagree with almost everything you guys talked about 😅 respect your opinions, you could be right. Here's my takes though.
Hafthor's grip is poor right now. He was recently in Edmonton training with the MVM classic winner Tristain Hoath. They report his grip is poor and he's not likely to finish the frame, so he will lose points there, and the dinnie stone carry will be very bad for Hafthor.
Also there being such an incredible lineup means that I think all of the top guys will have events where they lose points because there's too many incredible guys, they'll be all over the place. It makes it more likely to have someone put in a great performance that last year would be top 3, but this year but come mid-table. 5 past WSM winners means a WSM champion-tier performance can land you mid-table, which means more potential for disruption. This is why I think Mateusz has a chance for podium. He'll eat shit on the deadlift but be top 2 in the medley, the frame, and the dinnie stones, and probably top 3 or 4 in the axle. If the big 5 are knocking points off each other all over, suddenly Mateusz looking relatively consistent.
Also Licis struggling to pull 425 in training means he's probably good to pull 440 at least in comp. He has a history of looking shit in training then coming out swinging.
Honestly my podium guesses are Hooper, Licis, and Mateusz, BUT I acknowledge that that could all be wildly out to lunch.
Top 5 in each event IMO will be
Deadlift:
- Hafthor
- Hooper
- Bobby
- Stoltman
- Licis
Frame Carry:
- Mateusz
- Hooper
- Singleton
- Licis
- Novikov
Dinnie:
- Hooper
- Mateusz
- Singleton
- Stoltmam
- Novikov
Axle press:
- Hooper
- Stoltman
- Licis
- Mateusz
- Thompson
Stone Medley
- Mateusz
- Licis
- Hafthor
- Hooper
- Stoltman
But also those could all be waaaaayyyyy off. Point being, it's volatile. Fantastic performances can land midpack and that's lost points.
Shit I forgot how good Maxime is at the timber carry! He'll be an upset in that event too.
Solid analysis
Thor says his grip is good right now, he was doing easy sets with 190kg behind the back holds in training & said 400kg frame was no bother on the grip. He was in Edmonton in December so that was quite a long time ago. He'll get beaten because on frame by a few guys because of foot speed but he'll finish it
An interesting point from someone else on the dinnie's - Thor is the widest competitor at the Arnold & shoulder width can help a bit because the dinnie's don't bash against your legs as much
@@Wxpt1010 Very interesting point about Dinnie's. If he can put together a good package with these numbers, can definitely win. But it's been so long since he's competed, so that's the question mark
@@Wxpt1010 Hafthor didn't finish the frame the last time he attempted it in 2020. Given we know his grip is an issue right now, I'd honestly be amazed if he finished it. Not likely he places higher than 6th even if he does though. Hooper, Licis, Mateusz, Maxime, and Singleton will all beat him.
Won't have to so no
I think Tom could pull 1000lbs
He’s winning the deadlift - but not the show. The other events are too good for the other athletes who haven’t been on a break.
I think Tom can challenge for the deadlift.
I think tom and Bobby can get up to the 1000bl mark but Thor can easily do more
they might get 1000 but Thor warms up with 1000.
Not a chance in hell
Not a chance Tom beats Thor on the elephant bar.
Tom will do very well in deadlift, maybe even top 3, but i don't think that he can win it.
No, because he will not need to. Think he will win the deadlift but not the comp.
My original picks were:
1.Mitch
2. Tom
3. Martins
4. Thor
5. Evan
6. Mateus
But if Thor is healthy...he can win this. I think the healthiest out of my picks will win it. I'm personally rooting for Martins, Mitch, Thor and Evan.
I thought that it will be between Mitch and Tom, but now after seeing Thor's training video i think he is up there with other two boys. What a comback it would be, if he can win Arnold's after such a long time from strongman sport 😅
@@LalasBrothers Yeah, what a comeback indeed! I was soooo bummed out that he retired in his prime because of his anger with WSM and Eddie. It screwed the fans and possibly Thor’s legacy. How many WSM’s would Thor have won? We’ll never know. But this Arnold’s is the toughest competition “ever” IMHO.
This year Mateusz is in full health and I sure see him higher than 6th. Doubt he can win but podium sure can do even if in DL only beats Oskar and Maxime
@@spikeyspike79 Mateusz is such a good guy…I would love to see him do well. But I just don’t see him on the podium in this stacked competition. It’s crazy how much stronger he is in some events. That legendary time he picked up the stone to shoulder 5 times and everybody else was weak compared to him.
Hooper is the smartest strongman ever and always improves.
Why are you glazing so hard?
@@Testoodope Not sure what glazing is, but my point was to not underestimate Hooper.
How can you say ever when most of his numbers in a head to head comparison loses to Brian Shaw, Halfthor and Žydrūnas 'Big Z? He has a series on his own fucking channel that proves this
@@AbirZenith He is only years into a strongman career. Lets be honest, like how Thor is an anomaly, Mitch is too. To dominate a year in strongman with limited experience is phenomenal. Mitch is too good to be underestimated.
He will only lift what he needs to win the deadlift. He will 100% not win the comp and will be lucky if he gets on the podium. His upper body is no where near ready. Thor will peak for 2025 Arnolds. He will un beatable in any contest he enters at that point.
Hafthor also has to lift the 505 KG. We keep watching people fail it, year after year, I think its been 3 years now.
Also strongwomen needs some work too. The female equivalent of 505 KG is 355 KG and 330 KG hasn't been done yet.
Mark my words. He is on a road to massive injury.
Hopefully you are wrong, but you never know in our sport 🤷♂️
I hope so too but I truly fear that this is too much too soon and for the sake of nothing. Thor was finally healthier and now he's back on peds and into massive weight loads. If this was some NFL or NBA player who makes a comeback for 15 millions/year I would understand but this is senseless. @@LalasBrothers
