This is an amazing video, people can use these ideas to replace their interest in keeping monster fish. Keeping smaller fish that are similar to monster fish promotes better fish keeping for beginners. Great work man, would like more to come!
When it comes to arowana the african butterfly fish and golden wonder killifish work well, for bichirs/eels kuhli loaches, for large gobies you can get bumblebee gobies, for pufferfish you can get the pea puffer or figure 8 puffer, for oscars and other large cichlids you can go for convict cichlids, for red tail catfish you can go for a gulper catfish (around 10-12 inches), for a shark/pike cichlid you can get a dwarf pike cichlid, for archer fish you can go for burmese clouded archer fish (only hits 6 inches). Sorry if any of these have been said or not
Great video man! I subscribed. I used to trap invasive Pike live bearers in the Everglades when I was in high school. I've got a couple in tanks and let me tell you, they are aggressive eaters!
My opinion a better replacement for the piranha is the exodon paradoxus Aka the buck tooth Tetra it will eat flesh get to around 4" and will 100% school
LOL I thought the peacock bass was unmatched but some people are creative. That looked pretty darn close. Also, thank you so much for the Jaguar Cichlid alternative!! Both suggestions are awesome.
A perfect alternative for flagtail prochilodus is the Denisonii barb! Also a schooling fish but it has an extremely similar body shape and general anatomy and has yellow and black stripes on its tail fin. Very active and colorful schooling fish and only gets 5-6”.
Colombian Tetra are some truly awesome fish! When it comes to eating they are utter pigs. They are pretty active too, unlike the piranha. I've got 10 of them and they really make the tank nice and full of life. Also, they are waaaay better looking in real life than any picture I've ever seen.
Another great video great info as always would love to have your 350 awesome thank and I am sure a lot of other people would love to have that tank also keep the videos coming good luck my friend
A perfect alternative to the goonch catfish (if you don’t want the alternative to have that same ferocious catfish appetite) is the chameleon Pleco. Very similar appearance with the flattened wide head except obviously being a Pleco it’s actually algae eater or scavenging for various food scraps.. I’ve heard they only get around 10 inches which is a good size for a Pleco.. if you wanted to go even smaller with same appearance you could do whiptail or farlowella catfish!
DWSDARIUS FISH TANKS yesss very hard to find unfortunately but definitely a very cool fish... I’m a huge fan of the oddball fish so I’m in the same boat as you with trying to find one
I’ve kept two livebearer pikes, they’re a pain to feed. They really won’t accept anything other than live food. Not much is known about them so it’s really trial and error.
gotta say i got some big fish myself (1 koi carp 1 mirror carp 1 common carp) but i gotta say i have no issue getting them bigger enclosures when needed
I replacement for the peacock bass might be the european perch or the yellow perch. Freaks can get pretty large but usually they stay around that 8 inch mark
Iridescent shark alternative will be the rainbow shark And for me a more common alternative for the pacu/piranha is the green glofish tetra And for hi fin shark will be the black tetra they are similar in appearance And stergeon will the zebra danio before you say WHAT they kinda look a like when look at them on top of the water then they look so similar And the giant gorami will the the dwarf version Albino shark alternative will be the redtail shark albino one
You can make a video with alternatives to marine fish. Exemple: Tang Fish= Discus Morish idol= Angelfish C. Loriculus= colisa chuna Clownfish= bumblebee goby
the 3 main species of bullhead are great species to keep ..yellow bullhead (have one myself) brown bullhead and black bullhead. they arent tiny fish but not big whatsoever. perfect for someone wanting that big cat behaviour and they are MILES hardier than the raphael catfish (which tend to have pretty weak immune systems imo) some online and urban pet shops sell these fish but you might have to Net one or catch it on rod and reel (they are in new zealand and the united states) (barbless hooks is the best option if you wanna go the way of rod and reel.)(( which truly isnt as dangerous as it seems) )
even something as a neon tetra can be seen as a piranha i once put in left overs of a yabby meat from feeding my larger fish in a small take with about 7 of them they tore it to shreds.
There are a number of dwarf pike cichlids (e.g. Crenicichla compressiceps) that would be a good alternative to snakeheads, but they aren't the easiest fish to find. If you want something similar in appearance to your Peacock Bass, there are several Haplochromines that fit the bill, Haplochromis CH44 comes to mind.
From what I know (probably wrong) the first gudgeon shown was a southern purple spotted gudgeon and not a peacock Spotted are larger and more predatory. Also from what I've heard Knight goby's are brackish so that's something to look into too.
I know I am over a year late but a good alternative for the peacock bass would be sunfish! (Bluegill, Green) They have the same appearance as the bass and have the same predatory behavior as them. Sunfish even come from the same family as Largemouth and Smallmouth Bass.
just keep getting bigger tanks. tanks get pretty big and even small houses have alot of room if youd move furniture out of the way. if anything build a koi pond. theres simple answers to keeping big fish guys.
Bichirs would be a better alternative to Snakeheads instead of wild-form bettas. They're actually somewhat related to snakeheads and have similar behaviors, but they generally don't get nearly as big. Granted, they're still decently sized fish, getting to around 8 to 12 inches long, but they're still far more manageable... and far more legal than their larger relatives.
But I have Oscar’s that could eat those small fish at least I’m always afraid they will are there any replacements that get like only 9-15 inches like the oscars? That go well with them?
@@dwsdarius they came to mind 1st but that Kraussi 😖 got attitude, I like that, I'm sure the Specs are mean too,as far as looks the beauty is in the eye of the beholder, by the way that devil looking great too.lol👍

but u must have a tank thats at least 700 liters. So then monsterfish is possible as well. Like a lot of snakeheads / bichirs / knifefish / ropefish / eels are possible to keep in that size of tank.
arowana - a nice big plakat betta [ similar body type ] goonch - akysis vespa [ goonch look ] giant snakehead - dwarf snakehead [ good for medium tanks ] iridescent shark - african glass catfish [ active african community fish ] tiger shovelnose - giraffe catfish - dwarf giraffe catfish [ 10 -12 inches and good to keep with aggressive cichlids ] oscar - electric blue acara [ really personable and colorful ] clown loach - chain loach [ good nano alternative ] pacu - silver dollar ripsaw catfish - raphael catfish
So with the peacock gudgeon you talked about, the first picture you showed was of a purple spotted gudgeon. The peacock gudgeon only grows to 2 inches approximately whereas the purple spotted gudgeon can exceed 6 inches and is much more of a predator. There are videos of purple spotted gudgeons taking down large rainbowfish!
The Cuban cichlid is the most aggressive fish I’ve ever owned. I bought several juveniles to grow out in a 75 gallon in hopes to get a breeding pair. The male killed the entire tank in about 3 weeks.
DWSDARIUS FISH TANKS yeah I was pretty upset. They’re a cool fish and I was looking forward to trying to breed them. Guess a 75 isn’t big enough. Maybe I’ll try again when I’ve got another 6 foot tank open.
If you want a solo fish check out (Chichlasoma Grammodes) or “Mini-Dovii” they are highly aggressive and territorial but only grow to about 10-12 inches with females being smaller. They look and behave identical to Dovii’s hence the nickname, but are extremely slow growers and skittish as juveniles but adults are crazy and have a lot of colors and personality. I would not keep them with other cichlids in a 75 Gallon because they will claim the entire tank and try to kill everything else once they reach 4-6 inches
One other alternative for peacock bass is the smallmouth bass. They only grow 20 inches. I have one and they are really smart and aggresive. But they are very hard to find.
My starry night is like a peacock bass had to take him of live foods and if I throw something past the tank he will chase it. If I swing a whistle past the tank he goes crazy!
piranha : black skirt tetra, they eat the same way and school in the same way too, they eat everything and they eat a lot. eel: khuli loach, very same body, likes to hide. catfish: otocinclus?
Mum, can we get a piranha?
No, we have a piranha at home.
piranha at home: serpae tetra
Piranhas are illegal in my country (Philippines).
No skirt tetra
LOL
I live in Brazil so technically I could just go on a quick drive and catch one but I don't really like piranha
Exodon paradoxus (bucktooth tetra) could also be a substitute for the piranha
I'd think that is one cool little fish
Ray Luckman they are
Chewy Ltd yeah I wouldn’t put anything with em would be awesome to have a nice school of them tho
I had some Exodons, 6 of em, and they shredded everything. Really cool fish and they live awhile too.
yeah, I'm surprised that's not the 1st fish mentioned. Closest thing to a piranha that's not just a small piranha.
Thank you, I'm moving to a dorm with tank limits and giving up my larger cichlids so its really helpful to have this video right before I set off
This is an amazing video, people can use these ideas to replace their interest in keeping monster fish. Keeping smaller fish that are similar to monster fish promotes better fish keeping for beginners. Great work man, would like more to come!
i actually find that smaller tanks are harder to keep than bigger tanks tbh
Replace Just sounds mean some ppl Just cant afford Or dont have enough space For a big tank(getting a 7x2x2soon and a 10x4 in a couple years)
I love pike livebearers so much id LOVE to keep atleast 3

My opinion a better replacement for the piranha is the exodon paradoxus Aka the buck tooth Tetra it will eat flesh get to around 4" and will 100% school
Phillip Burrell exodons are cool, but they don’t look like piranha. Columbians look and act like piranha, they are literally scaled down piranha.
LOL I thought the peacock bass was unmatched but some people are creative. That looked pretty darn close. Also, thank you so much for the Jaguar Cichlid alternative!! Both suggestions are awesome.
Dope fish selection for the 350
Congo tetras! Stunning fish. I wish I had a large enough tank to keep them in.
A perfect alternative for flagtail prochilodus is the Denisonii barb! Also a schooling fish but it has an extremely similar body shape and general anatomy and has yellow and black stripes on its tail fin. Very active and colorful schooling fish and only gets 5-6”.
First video I've seen on your channel. Really enjoyed it. Thank you. Subbed.
The Spiny eel/ Zig Zag eel are freaking amazing. They become so personable and are way more active compared to them giants!
Yeah but I believe that they get around 12 inches which is fairly large
Fire eels are awesome. One of my favourite fish ^_^
@@mrslinkydragon9910 wet spot has a huge one, store pet

@@dwsdarius No problem man you have inspired me to make fish related videos
I can see it now... My Colombian Tetra's going "hey, hey, I am a mini piranha" as they GTFO when the Gourami swims by.

What are those huge silver fish with the black and red lined tails in your 350 gallon? Recently got a huge tank and I really like the look of them
Flagtail prochilodus...gental giant (except towards its own kind)

a good alternative for northern pikes or gar would be the grass pickerel or chain pickerel.
I don't know much about native fish, but after looking at some pics that look like it would be an awesome replacement...looks identical!
South American Bumblebee Catfish are great alternatives to Redtail Catfish.
I’ve kept two livebearer pikes, they’re a pain to feed. They really won’t accept anything other than live food. Not much is known about them so it’s really trial and error.
Wow, yes I've read something similar...I know picky eating fish can be very annoying
Woohooo, my comment made it into the video!
Edit: it made it in twice!
Edit: up to 3 now!
Mine too!
Where do I buy those pike minnows?
Red eye tetra or lamp eye tetra can you an alternative for piranha
gotta say i got some big fish myself (1 koi carp 1 mirror carp 1 common carp) but i gotta say i have no issue getting them bigger enclosures when needed
if you got an idea of what to get for a bigger fish its not usually bank breaking. least not in my area
I replacement for the peacock bass might be the european perch or the yellow perch. Freaks can get pretty large but usually they stay around that 8 inch mark
I think this is a great video and probably saves many fish lives.
Iridescent shark alternative will be the rainbow shark
And for me a more common alternative for the pacu/piranha is the green glofish tetra

Albino shark alternative will be the redtail shark albino one
Man I wish I still had my shovel nose catfish
Best arrowwana alternative in my opinion is the African butterfly fish
You can also use a pike livebearer as an alternative for a northern pike since you can't buy them online(because they are game)
Can you keep the pike live bearer with the dojo loach and the two spot mystus and the Cuban cichlid together in a 50 gallon tank
Really enjoy this kinda of videos
You can make a video with alternatives to marine fish.
Exemple:
Tang Fish= Discus
Morish idol= Angelfish
C. Loriculus= colisa chuna
Clownfish= bumblebee goby
That's a good idea
African cihlids also make a good alternative
What about wimple piranha and exodons those are 2 great alternatives.
Yes I mentioned exodons in part 1 but wimple are also great
I’d also reccomend bucktooth tetra for piranhas. Feeding them is an absolute show!

Any alternatives for peacock bass?
Someone just told me that the five star general looks similar to a peacock bass, I agree
Banjos are a cool catfish, I have 1 but they hide alot

Not for a Erythrinus Erythrinus, these dont need larger than 200L,
200? thats a very small tank. They arent really active but they are still around 20cm.

the dwarf akysis vespa reminds me of a mini goonch
What monster fish would you recommend for a 75 gallon?
Aquatinsect Oscar or Senegal bichir are two good choices
Any cichlid that grows over a foot.
If you want a solo fish check out (Chichlasoma Grammodes) or “Mini-Dovii” they are highly aggressive and territorial but only grow to about 10-12 inches with females being smaller. Might not need a replacement for a wolffish, a rainbow wolffish only gets about 8”
Needlenose gar only gets about 12-14inches.
My idea is :
Oxydoras Niger catfish & giraffe catfish alternative to synodontis granulosus or petricola
Gulper catfish?
If you make a third part, you should have red-spotted copeina/copeina guttata as an alternative to arowana.
Wow, first time hearing of that fish
Yeah, it's not too common in the hobby, I only just found it in an aquarium fish book.
I got 2 peacock bass and a 75 gallon I'll probably add more from your suggestions (Bass is waaaaaaaaaaaaayyyyy expensive but worth it to keep)
@Chewy Ltd yeah I noticed that can they live with a Juvi 2.7 feet gar? I have a pond which is almost 9 meters long
Those MONSTER FISH ALTERNATIVES look more attractive that their giant neighbours
Do those fish do well with plants🤔
Most of them do with the exception of the cichlids
piranha : black skirt tetra, they eat the same way and school in the same way too, they eat everything and they eat a lot.
eel: khuli loach, very same body, likes to hide.
catfish: otocinclus?
What's the orange color fish?
Red Devil Cichlid
a sostitute for giraffe catfish is the cory cat
I like bullhead catfish.
I always thought a yellow perch is similar to a peacock bass. Same colors and same predatory instinct.
Yes I need to get one in a tank...I think they have a ton of potential
Betta is really good replacement for arapaima they have similar head shape and they are both carnivore
