  • Ok, this is something you do not see every day. The cab coming off a pickup, so I thought I would share. The floor in the truck is toast. I was able to find a company that makes floors and other parts for these old trucks.

    As I understand it, Kenny makes these parts to order and takes about 6 weeks. I ordered the floor kit with long floor pans that go all the way to the back of the cab. New floor pan, complete rocker, inner rocker and cab mount assembly ships unassembled for $1295 at the time + $125 for shipping to Arizona for a total of $1420. For video of exactly what is in the kit, please see • Rescued 1966 Dodge D10...
    Shannon Schierer who has recently done body and paint on my 1969 Dodge Coronet 4 door (lots of video of this on my channel) will be doing the replacement, and I will have more video as it progresses.
    Jeff from Mr. Automotive's Special Project Shop owned by Tom North did the cab removal (in one work day), and will re-mount the cab after the new floor has been installed.

      Well it may never be done in terms of a new paint job, but it will be a safe reliable classic old truck! Thanks for following the progress!

      I will pass this along to the guys, I am sure they will appreciate your comments! Yes, I have been a car guy since I was about 6 years old. I lived in Oregon City, OR. An older neighbor kid who was about 12 named Paul Witkowski and I would lay in a field and watch cars go by on a main drag. He would tell me "that one is a Ford", "that one is a Dodge!", one day I saw a car that just HIT ME! I said "Paul! What is that?!?! Paul said "that is a Corvette!". It looked like a jet on wheels, and I was hooked from that day forward on Corvettes. My first car was a 1965 6 cylinder 3 speed Mustang I bought for $400. My Dad co-signed the loan and I drove it to school for a couple of years. I had a 67 Firebird later on and by the time I was 21 I bought my first Corvette, a 1960 out of a field in Creswell, OR. So that is how it all started!

    I love the front end, grill, headlights on those old Dodges! And I love those old stepside pickups! Wish they still made them like that! My Dad had a 56 Mercury pickup when I was a kid, I loved that truck! I’m looking forward to the story of the rebuilding of this truck!!

      Well, as you know, I am just completing the restoration of the 69 Dodge Coronet 4 door, so I am not sure how far I can afford to go with the truck, but I do want the floor replaced because to me it is a safety issue. I have a few other videos of this truck on my channel where I have addressed other safety issues and even had an all new wiring harness installed. At least for now, this truck may have to be driven with the "patina" look, but at least it will be safe! I am going to have to look up a 56 Merc pickup and have a look, but just the year tells me it will be very cool!!!

    I've done the same thing to my 69. BE SURE TO PROTECT YOUR WINDOW GLASS. THE GRINDER SPARKS AND WELDING SLAG WILL RUIN/PITT YOUR GLASS.

    • @bartk85622
      @bartk85622  4 роки тому +1

      Thanks for tip Mike! We kept a tarp over the glass, so hopefully that minimized any damage. The new floor is in now, and we will be putting the cab and bed back on the frame over the next few weeks. In addition, I am swapping the 4 speed with the granny low for an A518 automatic with OD so I can use this truck on the freeway. I hope to have it all done before a car show here in southeastern AZ on 1/25/2020. carnuts.org/Car-Show

      @@bartk85622 the exterior part of my glass was fine, but I ruined the interior side of the glass (windshield, back glass). I had the doors removed so the side glass were fine. Check your interior side of the windshield & back glass.Thanks for keeping us informed on your Dodge truck.

      @@mikebell1063 I am sure the back glass is good, it had a tarp as well. My doors were off too, so no side glass issues. I will double check the inside of the windshield, but on first glance, I did not see any issues. I am happy to share the progress of the truck, and I appreciate you following along. There are several videos after this one of the progress of the truck. My email is n6347m@yahoo.com If you would care to share some pics of your truck, I would love to see them!

      Hey Victor, if you go to the playlists for my channel and choose the playlist for the Dodge truck and go to video 17, that shows the cab going back on the truck. Hi Bart, is that the truck that had the rat's nest under the hood? I remember when you bought it. It's going to look really nice when it's done.

    • @bartk85622
      @bartk85622  5 років тому

      That is the very same truck Rosanne! I am probably not paint this truck, it will have the "patina" look. But underneath it will be safe and reliable. Brakes are done with all new components, all new wiring harness, while the cab and bed are off, I am going to take the opportunity to have the frame cleaned, rust treated and painted. I will also have the wood in the bed sanded and properly stained while it is easy yo get to! It is going to be nice, but not a show truck!

      ;-) I have three that are 50 years old or older. The blue 1969 Dodge Coronet 4 door, the black 1966 Dodge D 100 pickup and the 1969 Chevrolet Corvette. My daily driver is a 1997 Chevrolet Tahoe. My wife drives a 2019 Dodge Challenger. I am actually having a three car garage built to hold the three oldest cars, video to come on that. They should be starting in November!
