Not really, but kinda,
Korone's debut was so scuffed it turned into a gamers collab, and because gamers already know each other before hololive they already have a dynamic with each other. 3rd gen then debut officially with the bond of a generation in mind. This is also the time when sub-units and pairs (aside from Sora Azki) started forming (or atleast becoming more official), FAMS, Okakoro, Fubumio, AquShion, AyaFubu etc.

Yes it is. It's not "not really", it really was starting on Gen 3.
Gamers were "subdivision" which Hololive created because they were following trend of dividing talents by stream genre. Nijisanji was the one did it first, but the idea has been initiated by Kizuna Ai who separated her channel from her other different gaming channel. Originally the idea was to divide them into gamers, singers, and the general ones. By the time, streaming Vtubers were mostly doing talking stream and only occasionally gaming or singing. But some do stream games or sing more frequent, so the idea was what if we separate these ones into their own subdivision.
The idea itself didn't last too long hence Hololive discontinued Gamers after getting 4 talents, while Niji just blurred them back into how they were.
Going back to the topic, yes it was from Gen 3 in which they started treating the talents as a group. Because prior to that, "Generation" simply means they were debuting within same period, not at all meaning they were born as one single group. It's like how you enter school at the same year as your schoolmates, not necessarily they're your friends or your gang.

The question at hand is why Hololive switched from "Debut however you want" to "Debut using this specific format", and we have Korone on record as saying she thinks this is specifically because of how scuffed her own debut was, making the higher-ups realize that a bit of structure may help keep things running smoothly. Whether that's accurate or not, only the staff could tell us for sure, but the timeline certainly lines up.
Yea both the concept of a “generation” as we know it now and the whole “idol company” thing really began with 3rd gen.

Gen 2 debuted a mere three months after Gen 1... They were also part of the early foundation of hololive, back when their debuts and stuff wasn't 'figured out' and organized yet.

@@KancerruThey also debuted a few days apart instead of the now typical "one day after another" pattern. Disorganized, "do whatever content you can", that was early Hololive. Fun fact: The first Holomem to collab with a guy was Subaru, just a couple of weeks (iirc) after her debut. She collabed with a NijiLiver named Maimoto Keisuke. ASMR was also big back then so she tried learning how to do it but her whisper voice was hilariously duck-like, which birthed Subarudo "Shuba" Duck and became the founding member of HoloBirds.

@@joshuagabrielcatindig7607 Tempus got their live2ds fixed faster than Myth tho. Remember Gura's eye rigging problem? Almost 3yrs as the most subbed vtuber and it's still not fixed. Meanwhile Magni and Vesper got brush ups after just a year.
I guess in a way it shows that the bigger Holomem are definitely not favored over the ones with lower subs.

I still think they should do new debut streams for Gens 0, 1, 2, and Gamers.
Cook them up “alternate world” outfits as if they got to pick their own design(but same models), then have each Gen do rolling relay debuts from one member into the next. It would be fun, everyone would get to introduce themselves again, the more popular members would help lift up the less popular ones a little, and it would help build some new momentum back up for the older Gens. Plus it would likely help people who are ancy that we haven’t gotten any new members in a while.
Obviously you would separate each relay by 2-3 months to keep people from being overwhelmed, but it would really help fill up the downtime between things like Holofes and other special events.
Honestly that will a good idea. I mean Korone make her own one mimicking the scuffed debut she had and does it as if she went back on time to undo that.
BUT yeah! a new one with proper lore or introduction like we had now days. Specially for the likes of Mel and Aki. I still asking myself how 2 of most cinnammon rolls get a steady but slow growth considering both are the cutest on their own (OF COURSE I KNOW THERE IS TONS OF REASONS TOO, before someone mentioned it).
@@SenseiRaisen plus the majority of those Gens didn’t even debut as idols. Or even in the case of Gen 0, where the majority of them did, they also joined the agency piecemeal under vastly different circumstances, and a debut relay would further cement 0 as its own generation (at least a little).

Kinda sad that Shion's debut stream VOD is gone, it's like a historical artifact being lost forever. Well, at least there are clips of their reactions to their debut streams, tho idk if Shion did such a thing.

There are clips made by the OG Japanese clippers. It's not that hard to find, just type it in Japanese.

@@shojun11 Well, it was most likely among the VODs that was taken down during the July Copystrike incident of 2020. TL;DR Ookami Mio suddenly got hit with two copystrikes from different game companies one day, which made management panic coz of youtube's "3 strikes and you're out (as in channel deletion)" rule. So they mass-privated a lot of VODs, and in Subaru's case it was a mass-deletion. You can google some keywords around for more info, but iirc Subaru and Miko (well and obviously Mio) were the ones most affected by the incident. But at the same time that was also the reason why Minecraft was a boom in Hololive that year, afaik anyway. I might be wrong.

Why the archive gone?
It might be from the copyright fiasco that happened back in 2020. A lot of Holomember's archives got privated until Cover could figure out which games they had permission for. Unfortunately some of the managers mistakenly deleted entire archives of the talents like Subaru. Shion might've lost some of her archive streams because of that.

I was not aware UA-cam deletes old live archives. Is it 5 years?
very old hololive (when they were still new and inexperienced) they used to stream games, sometimes without fully obtaining permission yet. this lead to to an event i think with dark souls developers not being happy? one of the big companies anyway. and realizing how important it was to get permission for things to stream, to evade copyright, cover privated or deleted massive amount of old videos on multiple channels some time in late 2019-early 2020.
they are restoring old archives they do get permissions for though. an example of this is subaru's undertale streams which are now re-uploaded as videos instead of a live.
but its also up to the talents to restore videos apparently, so shion might not have went through the effort to restore her archives yet.
