I recently went through all of the Conan stories for the billionth time, loving the stories even more with each re-reading. "Red nails" was my favorite once again. Also "Beyond the Black River" and "Tower of the Elephant" and, and, and...
I am enthralled by the eerie atmosphere of Red Nails...weird dim-lit halls of lurking menace...the strange story being revealed bit by bit...two warring clans reminiscent of E. R. Burroughs...but, like you, I don't want to spoil it for new readers, so I'll leave it at that.
"Red Nails" is one of my favorite Conan stories!
yeah! of course. This is a great one, which is definitely due to be re-read soon.
I also like how it has a bit ofa n undertone of science fiction to it. hell, near the end the villainous even pulls out a ray gun thing. I mean they call it a 'wand" or something but, damit, it's a ray gun.
BTW, I've been crappy about answering my e-mails because they pile up and I don't check them for daysa nd then get depressed about how much I have to use the delete button. However, you were asking about the story "The Vale of Lost Women". It's a completed howard story, and it's in the Coming of Conan the Cimmerian book, I believe. Some very atmospheric quality writing but definitelyt eh most uh, uncomfortably racist thing in the canon.
This is a really good story, but "Beyond the black River" is definitely one of my top two or three Conan tales.

I absolutely love that you are reviewing the Conan books. Three years ago I had the privilege of going to the Robert E Howard museum in Cross Plains TX and touring his house. It was amazing. I also got to look at some the writing he did in high school. Thanks again for the great vid and review. I love me some Conan books!!!!!!

@@MattWall Yes its free to get in and we had a wonderful tour guide to take us through the house and tell us the history. They also have a really great gift shop at the end. In June every year they also have REH days that I would love to go to sometime.
@@TheSlothnic yeah I know about the reh days but I never know when it is. I usually find out about every July lol. Right on schedule! Lol
@@MattWall lol I hear ya. They didn't have it in 2020 because of covid, I don't know about in 2021.
