I have already mentioned it in my bass channel on UA-cam. Brazilian rosewood (Dalbergia nigra) is heavily restricted because it’s listed under CITES Appendix I, meaning it’s at risk of extinction due to overharvesting and habitat loss. It's native to Brazil's Atlantic Forest, which has been heavily deforested, and illegal logging has further endangered the species. International trade is prohibited except for pre-1992 items with proper documentation, and new instruments can only use pre-existing, legally sourced stock. These restrictions aim to protect the species and discourage illegal activity. Many luthiers now use alternatives like Indian rosewood, which is more sustainable.
@@weschilton Yep. And do you realize that I am a Brazilian bass player who knows where to find the last individuals of Dalbergia nigra? :P Anyway, just to clarify. Take care.
I have a couple of guitars that have been with me for 25 years, gigged around the world and played on almost every recording I've done...and I cannot imagine parting with any of them for any reason. That you'd be willing to give up long term personal instruments for a great charitable cause...well, that speaks volumes about your character. We're all taught, at least by some well meaning teachers at school, to lead by example, but how many of us truly do? Well done you.
Impact matters! Building schools and promoting a better life for others is the way to use the platform / company / brand you've built. Props for that and giving a crap about global society at large! Thank you!- A 4ish year SBL member...
I really want to play a Fodera one day. I don't usually like things that are hyped up but curiosity has got the better of me with this brand of instrument.
I hundred percent agree with you, I also wanna play one and if it feels right, I will buy it. There’s things that get hyped up unnecessarily, but that usually dies down but considering fodera’s been around for decades I think the hype just matches the instrument at this point .
Hopefully you can check one out and see what you think of them! Always worth saying that they are a particular thing and not everyone likes them, much like Alembic, Smith, MTD etc.! Find the bass that speaks to you!
I wasn’t really quite interested in Foderas until I tried one. Had played Tobias pre-Gibson, Marleaux, F bass (stunning), Maruszczyk (amazing), Fender, MM… My Fodera is maybe a bit overpriced, but its sound and playability truly worth the money I paid for it. Also, it’s really beautiful.

I could totally own a Fodera - if I sold all my basses and guitars... 😂 Love the grain on the rosewood and mahogany, and the maple looks like there's some flaming also. Very nice
The top wood may be different, but the bigger difference, in my opinion, is that it has a dual coil with the splitting options vs the PJ configuration on Victor’s main Monarch and Yin Yang. Although I know he has others, I suspect the monarch and the yin yang are the ones you’re referencing.
