Adrian, I both loved and hated that scene. I was a huge fan of the original Highlander...had the whole movie memorized when I was a kid...lol. So, for that reason, I hated this scene. However, the symbolism of it was amazing, both from actors' stand point as as characters. from actors' stand point, it was like Christopher was passing the Highlander torch to you. From the character stand point, it's like a student who graduates and creates his own art style, separate from the teacher's teachings...essentially killing the teacher in order to grow past the teachings. There is a scene I think I would have added to Endgame, though. Something like: Duncan goes home after the fight with Connor and has an emotional moment where he is holding both katanas, puts his own away and fights Kell with Connor's katana.

I actually watched this for the first time in a few years, and when Duncan says “I love you Connor” that made it real for me. Truly an emotional scene, but monumental at the same time. One of my favourite scenes from ANY movie.

Had to go back and watch that scene again. It was sad, because Connor and Duncan always had a playfulness to their friendship, despite the dark loneliness that being an immortal would bring. That changed once Connor made his decision. Yeah a bond was broken, also leaving no chance for a bond like that to happen again for Duncan. The death of Connor is a death of a part of Duncan as well.

‘Endgame’ was the first movie I took my girlfriend to, of whom would eventually become my wife. The scene where Connor and Duncan fought each other was emotional for me, because very much in contrast to the Highlander series, first episode-the showdown boiled to one immortal brother dying at the hands of another. My wife didn’t understand the impact upon it, with her not being familiar with the movies and the series. I must admit that there was a slight bit of a bittersweet tearful sorrow, even after Duncan defeated Kell, because it took the loss of a very good immortal, in the likes of Connor, that many fans also cherished over the years, including myself, in order for good to triumph. I believe that it was understandable that Connor would die, since losing Rachel was his final straw of having the art to live. I guess Connor’s death would become his release from loneliness that he could never out run.

I just rewatched the scene. Truly powerful acting. the music really adds to the emotion. Connor knows the truth and Duncan struggles with the bonds they shared, but ultimately understands that Connor is right. I think it truly was the best way for Connor to be resolved. And Duncan thus becomes the strongest immortal, and lord of illusions.
Highlander will always have a place in my heart, loved the movies and series. I wonder how this planned reboot will turn out, although I feel it will be lacking without the music from Queen.

One of the toughest moments in all Highlander to watch because we had lived and struggled with both characters for so long.
Years before Game of Thrones, this was a a GOT moment where you didn’t know exactly what would happen and you didn’t know who to root for.
Also, if an immortal became tired of the game and tired of endless life it would make sense for them to give their quickening to a friend instead of some random jerk who challenged them.

I watched this and just went to re-watch Endgame, it's been years since I watched it. The scene hit me harder now then it did when I saw it in the theater. I think 22 years of life since the first viewing gave me some perspective of Connors pain. Connor had reached his end and immortality (along with Jacob Kell) took it's toll on him. He was a brother doing what was best for the one person he truly loved. Gifting his life to Duncan giving him all the help he could to defeat Kell. It was a beautiful scene and very well acted from both of you. I'm man enough to say I cried.

I just rewatched that scene to refresh my memory - it was great acting, showing the tragedy of Duncan losing his father/elder brother figure by his own hand, looking so wretched and forlorn, not wanting to do it. It was so sad that Connor had to die, but it would have been worse for me if it had been Duncan. Still, I'm in a bit of tears now, and that happens extremely rarely. Yes, this scene is extraordinarily emotional for us Highlander fans ........

I remember thinking after Kell broke the rules. (Killing on Holy ground) Methos would have shot in and offed him. Duncan would be pissed Connor would not care. Methos would justify he was not going to play by the rules neither was, I couldn't just watch two great immortals die.

Broke my heart to see Connor go but to see how Duncan came back stronger and fought for him was great. I would have loved a whole movie of flashbacks and history between Duncan and Connor instead of modern. If they end up doing a new Highlander they should make it a period piece for a few movies and lead it up to modern day.

    one fact about Adrian;
When they were making the series, they originally had Adrian cast as Connor, but out of high respects towards Lambert, Adrian suggested creating a whole new character, and that is where Duncan came from.
That amount of respect and admiration towards not just the character of Connor, but towards Lambert himself, it truly felt that there was some levels of emotion filming that entire duel.
My take, and I may be in the wrong here.
the first episode “The Gathering” is labled as the Passing Of The Torch, but to me, Duncan taking Connor’s head is the ultimate passing of the torch saying
“You’re the MacLeod now. It’s your job being the Highlander.”
and the whole emotional aspects of not just Endgame, or the show. But the whole franchise entirely is why I have been a huge fan for the past 22, almost 23 years.

It had been a while and I didn't quite remember how I responded to that scene emotionally, so I looked for the clip on You Tube. It's here, and I do remember. Duncan was completely resigned when he said, "I love you, Conner." It was the combination of resignation and expression of love. It was his look, his countenance. That's when I felt the tears welling up. Embarrassed by my own vulnerability, I immediately put my fist through a brick wall to recapture my womanhood.

I was very emotional when I saw the scene play out watching it for the first time in theaters. I still get a little emotional whenever I do a series marathon that I end with endgame. First time I saw it kept telling myself that you're heroes...brothers, You shouldn't have to kill each other just to stop one powerful immortal. In the highlander tv series Duncan has gone up against so many powerful immortals who had the power to cause illusions. Just finished watching the episode in season 3 where Duncan faced an immortal who used an illusion of an adversary wearing a cloak and made Duncan believe he was going insane) as well as in the movies, part 3 sorcerer. What would have been a great twist was what if Jacob Kell could split into 2 people and each take on a Highlander. Maybe 1 would fall and 1 wouldn't,

When you think about the world the Immortals live in, they probably all need to (at the very least) grapple with the concept of dueling and beheading a beloved friend or mentor or a loved one; because even those who promised to never duel each other knew that there was always a chance they would be the last two left in a world where (and this is both the central goal and central tragedy of the world the Immortals inhabit) the can be only one.
Like... Even the most villainous (like the Kurgan or Kanis) lived long enough lives to have still had people they cared about, people they admired or even loved, and some of those might have been Immortals themselves and maybe, for them, that is the reason they became so callous: the realization that they would either lose each Immortal they called friend to the blade of another foe OR would have to be the one to take that head themselves... well that would harden a heart in many cases, wouldn't it?
Duncan just happened to be one of those unfortunate few who had to do it... but he chose to let it ennoble his spirit rather than harden it.

it was a sad moment, but at the same time a passing of the torch. i think in Connor's mind that, if someday he had to die, better off giving up his energy to someone he cared for, his kin, his last gift to protect those he cared for most. hopefully, with Connor's energy strengthening Duncan, Duncan would understand his kinsman more than he ever realized, his memories and why Connor did some of the things he did in his lifetime.

Connor had given up hope from the very start of the movie so hid fight with Duncan didn't hold as much weight as it could of had connor kept his fire and forced Duncan to kill him
Or if connor had lost his fire just before the fight instead, so it would be a final lesson rather than a mercy killing.
That's my take at least the emotional moment was good I just felt it was rushed and connor wasn't really a role in the movie to have the sizable Impact it could have had

I will admit I got choked up. I know why it was done. Both behind the scenes and in the movie. As a fan of both movie's and show. It was hard to watch. DUNCAN for having to do it. And CONNOR for forcing it. 😢

I watched most of end game
but stayed away from the ending. Didn’t like it, too shiny and hair-stylish Hollywood... i love Christopher’s Highlander movies and Adrian.... you ARE thee ultimate Highlander!!!!!!

Do you think that Connor thought he was gonna win or he was hoping Duncan would win? What are your thoughts?

Mr. Paul. Please rematch the entire series. I noticed a couple less known actors were refused in the series. But not Chris. In my opinion. Your episodes. Homeland, Comes a horseman. Had a lot more depth story and the background into History of Duncan's past. That could have been an opportunity to add Chris into the series and wasn't in the last episode. What gives on the mystery of "Brotherhood " and lack of emotion?
