Doctors Pierce, thank you so much for all the information and clarification on the Tower of Babel! I am in my 40's and have always wondered exactly what the people's ultimate purpose was in building the tower. So nice to have some clarity on it!

Hearing about the reason for the ziggurats and the Tower of Babel, which is the idea of bringing God down to us for our prideful reasons reminds me of the hit song from the 90’s called “One of Us.” The chorus says, “What if God was one of us, just a slob like one of us, just a stranger on the bus….” It’s bringing God to our level vs. learning to rise to His level.

The Pierces were awesome! I am so grateful that we have people in the church who are so knowledgeable and faithful and willing to share their learning. When they shared their personal experiences of conversion and seeking understanding at the loss of her brother the Spirit was powerful. Thank you!

I was born Marianne Marckesano. Now I am simply Missy Pierce. I was told when I was a child “That’s a long name for such a little girl!” So I totally get why they called him simply the brother of Jared. 😊

I always thought the 24 plates were very concise because it would have been written in the Adamic language, which would have been lost when the Jaredites became extinct.
I loved the added knowledge about Egyptian characters! Thank you for that!

My tower is also control and trust. I often get answers to prayers that I struggle so much to act on. "Are you sure, God? Let's do it my way anyway." 🤦🤦

I know you didn’t ask for this advice, but I love both of you and your guests. There is something quite remarkable about being with people, face-to-face with no editing. You would bring so much spiritual value and magical moments if you met with your guests face-to-face and didn’t edit anything.

I've been a long-time watcher, and this past year my 94-year-old mother has joined me in watching every week and laughs at all your jokes and loves each episode. This week with the Pierces (excellent guests, by the way 😉), we noticed the picture of the Savior between them in the background for the first time as it's usually covered up by the single guests. It's beautiful and I'd love to see it switched with one of the telephones on the side so we can enjoy seeing it. (Is it one of Anthony Sweat's paintings by chance?) And I've been very curious about the items behind Hank. What is the silver thing on the left? Is the framed picture behind him of Jerusalem? These things are never in sharp focus, so it's hard to tell what they are - I'd love to know!

May I submit a little known scripture that we overlook but could give some additional info on your lesson today. Omni verse 20 tells us that a "large stone" was brought to Mosiah to interpret. I would assume Coriantumr brought it when he came. Just as in Old testament when we have the book of the kings and the book of the chronicles I would suggest that perhaps this is similar to Ether's book being The Chronicles of what happened to the nation and the large stone gives Coriantumr lineage and right to the throne. After all that is what the final battle was about. They were trying to kill his sons and take away the kingdom.
BTW I love your podcast. You guys are awesome!

I’ve always been struck by the fact that they asked not to have the language confounded which leads me to think that the compounding of language was not all at once with everyone as sometimes people assume.

On another note, I wonder if self doubt is the flip side of pride because, when people express it, they seem to be demanding that we tell them about how good they are. Just a thought...

I have a question about Mahonri Moriancumer. When I was in seminary in the 1990’s, my seminary teacher told us about how Joseph Smith named the baby Mahonri Moriancumer and that we know the name of the brother of Jared’. But he said that Mahonri isn’t his name. Just Moriancumer. My seminary teacher said that Mahonri was a name that was common in the 19th century and that people in biblical times didn’t have two names so that when Joseph Smith named the baby, he gave a common name as the first name, and the brother of Jared’s name as the middle name. I can’t remember who my seminary teacher was or how he knew this. But ever since then I have thought that the brother of Jared was simply Moriancumer.

Did you know that the word "brother" does not exist in Chinese?
When they were translating the Book of Mormon into Mandarin, the living prophet had to be consulted. We learned that Mahonri Moriancumer was Jared's "gēge" (哥哥 elder brother).
Reading with that in mind, we repeatedly see the way Jared respects and honors him :)
