This video put me in a better mood. It's therapeutic when you watch it after doing manual labor for 10 hours while dealing with the uncertainties of life. Great video. Please keep the guitar-related content coming.
I’ve always loved guitar and everything guitar related but I can’t imagine how much different my appreciation would be without your channel. Love ya Dave.
So grateful for the time you allowed me to spend with that '62 last year. It was a really significant moment in my guitar life and influenced my own build heavily! hope your well!
Dave, I’ve followed you for years on the tube man and I don’t remember you ever getting lost in playing a guitar like you did with your lovely other half’s 70s US Strat latest video. That video is a masterpiece in playing as you feel it.😎👌👍
Thank you Dave. "Cement-Made Donkey" will be the name of my next band. Great to see your axes and enjoy your knowledge and infectious enthusiasm as always. Love your channel.
Recently found you through the Andertons videos and I love the content Dave. Learned so much about Strats which is helpful as I'm in the market for one. Keep up the good work bud!
I always enjoy these videos so much where you just talk about your guitars, and your personal connection to them. Guitars are like comforting companions that are always there no matter how dark the road in life can get at times. Thank you for sharing those stories. Can’t tell you how much you are appreciated, and I’m exceptionally thankful I found your channel all those years ago.
I loved this! The biggest surprise was how much you like your Eastcoast LP. I'm also very intrigued to try one, but I have such a special bond with my J&D LP (it being my second guitar, and my first 'proper' guitar) that I'm afraid to buy another Les Paul. I don't want it to be replaced D
If you really love it now, I wouldn't worry. You could get something "better" that costs more and you'll still love it. I have several, and one of my most affordable is my "playing" favorite. Once you've really bonded with one, you've bonded for life. ✌️🇦🇺
I dont know if I ever wrote a comment under your video. But I wanted to say, that I love your honesty, modesty and the passion and love for guitars. I really enjoyed this video and it made me rethink what I feel about my guitars and how much I love them. I also have a few that I will never sell because I couldnt live without them.
Great video, as always! I hope you know how much you inspire so many people watching here. I also have quite a bond with some guitars, but your appreciation og your instruments is unique and humbling.
Love Dave❤he has such a wonderful outlook to music.Relate to the things he says completely. As a totally screwed up 14 year old girl the Bass guitar came along and essentially saved my life.35 years later i still am excited by the instrument every day and thankful for such a great career its given me and still gives me.Dave is such a breath of fresh air.❤❤
Fantastic video, love listening to the passion, honesty and love you have for your guitars. Your channel's a constant reminder of why I keep playing , huge thanks. Cheers Dave👍
As much as I admire you as a player, as much as I enjoy your content, I cannot downplay how much I value the way you talk about your struggles. You are a real inspiration, Dave, and I'm so grateful I found your channel.
Great rant/story ... Great you got to the Chapman after a while ... happened to me too ... To realize/identify where the problem is and to fix it/i.e. make it really "your guitar" is the way to go ... AND you have to step back and realize: "the idiot is in front of the guitar ..." ... this helps a lot! 🤫🤔 Also some guitars are "not that easy" and take you for a fight and you have to alter yourself a little to get together ... but then it's sheer love! 🥰
So happy that the guitar saved you Man , motorcycles did the same for me I'm 70 and still riding when I'm riding I have the greatest feeling of freedom, I'm trying to find the same feeling from learning how to play my Guitar , when I watch you play you seem to go to that place I'm trying to describe , love your collection It's cool 😀😀😀
My top guitars are as follows: 1. Gibson Les Paul Standard from 2006 2. Partscaster in a black paisley finish with a maple fretboard 3. Greco EX-800 from 1978 in natural finish with Dimarzio Super Distortion pickups 4. Another partscaster in black with a rosewood fretboard 5. Oh shit, I only have four. If you're in the position to select your top ten guitars out of your collection, you're a pretty lucky guy.
great content and story line, i was glued to the screen , wish i knew what number 5 was, i think it should have been the lemon drop, brill vid as usual dave,
Man if I could have just one of your top ten guitars I would be in heaven! Mr white and the red Oswald are my personal favourites + the 62 of coarse. Nearly 5 re frets on mr white is insane, that is just a mega amount of hours on that fretboard. Love your channel and what you do Dave and we have grown to love your guitars as much as you. 🙌
Well his LP cost 200, a classic 60s MIM strat is 5-600 on the used market and the chapman is around 1000 so it's not impossible to get a couple guitars like these. The problem is playing them like Dave does...
@@atlejohnnyrygg7124 yes you are right! I’ve only got a Bullet strat an affinity Tele and the katana 50, when I improve some of these will be on my list to purchase.👍 Dave is one of the modern GOATS of the guitar world he is that good!👍
You guys today are so lucky with the quality of guitars today. My first two guitars cost me $650 and $1,200 back in the 80s, because anything that would be deemed "affordable" was real crap. I've bought a few recently that are every bit as good as the Gibson I bought back then, but at 20% of the price. Damn GAS. Edit: When I say "you guys" I mean we guys.
Dave, I enjoyed the video so much. Moved me to the tip of my toes. Goosebumps ! So much I can relate to. Oh btw. Spray the Chapman Olympic white Dave. 😉
Really enjoyed this vid Dave, instruments seem to grow souls, yep I am a sentimental ol git but sometimes you just get a certain feel from certain guitars, almost like they choose you rather than the other way around. Its also very evident that even a low end guitar can be a favourite (I have one myself) TBH a good guitar is just that a good guitar regardless of value or make. Love this channel Dave thanks for making us all smile.
I don't think we've seen you play the Jag in some time.... Anyway, no surprise at #1. I saw that one coming! Big shout out to Master Nick, he is a big part of the Dave Simpson equation. I really enjoy hearing you talk about your guitars. Last summer I spent some time watching your older videos, these guitars are the history of Dave!
Wow Dave. I love your guitars. I like the way you respect and care for your instruments. Almost have all the types of guitar you own (except the 62 fender of course but who knows 😁). But the freaky thing is we both have the same #1. I also have a classic 60’s Fender strat MIM nitrocellulose sunburst. I love my classic 60’s. Nice to know that I share the same taste as my guitar idol 🙂. Nice hearing from you again. Keep it up man
Keep up the great work. Amazing video. You are such an inspiration as someone who has been playing for 1.5 year. You and John Frusciante have pushed me to practice all day.
Thanks for this one Dave. Just great. 3 years ago I had all 3 of my guitars stolen along with about 5 thousand US dollars of computer and video stuff stolen and it gutted me man. I now have 4 guitars but I'll always miss the others. As for Queenie interrupting you, what on earth would you do without her?
My top few guitars that I own are; '87 Charvel Model 4. (Matsumoku) '97 Fender Strat (Mex) stacked buckers neck and middle, full- size bucker bridge, S/P switches. (i call this the FatterBastardCaster) '73 Antoria Jazz Bass , mini-buckers. (Ibanez , re-badged for U.K. market.) (Matsumoku) Fender ('64 or '65?) Les Paulish thing, passive EMG pickups, ALNICO5. Stagg PJ bass with trick wiring... S/P, Phase, Bypass, all series, two output (for stereo on P pickup, or P J) A cello.
Dave my favourite Nick Oswald guitar is the beautiful brown wooden one Nick sent you when you were in France.. I love the texture of that wooden body with the gloss finish 🍺👌👍
Chapman needs to make you a signature guitar with the white and relic. I think you could have a Nick Johnston kind of guitar that would sell well for them!
Love the fact that you play so many ‘off beat ‘ ( no pun) guitars. Not a Fender / Les Paul snob. Teisco and Gould 😁love em. Gggrreat channel - and Cici ‘s
Same thing happened to me. I was in love with my Gibson LP Standard 60's. I put Bare Knuckle pups in it with oil/paper caps and BK 550K pots. I was sure it couldn't get better. Then I got my Gibson Custom 1959 M2M. I can't believe there's a better guitar on earth than that R9. It's perfect in every way. Also learned I love unpotted pups.
Under the nickel/chrome is probably some copper which is used for plating adhesion and under that might be the base material, which is probably some kind of brass if it looks gold coloured. I think the green on the aging is also some copper compound in the paint which starts to turn green. That might happen to those pickup covers as well over time.
Just a thought. It would’ve been cool to actually see the guitars but as you said its not always easy for you to locate them. But even pics or previous footage would’ve been good. Love your vids though Dave. Keep up the good work mate 👍🏼
That was interesting. I know you went through a bad time and you can associate your feelings with some guitars. I’ve been struggling with depression but people like you have helped me a lot. I’m glad those of us who watch and leave positive + feedback and thumbs 👍 have helped you acquire some special guitars 🎸. You deserve it. Be safe and keep posting. 👍☮️🌞🎸❤️
Dave, was it in this video or another that I heard you mention 'Evil Sheep' pickups...? That was good to hear, as Mark, the man behind those pickups, is a friend of mine. In fact, I bought the first ever set of those pickups (0001) which I have in a partscaster of mine that I'm quite proud of. And you are absolutely right, brilliant pickups, made by a great bloke... and played by a great bloke, apparently... YOU, not me... obviously... :-)
Still have yet to own ten guitars at once, but I'm getting there... Number One is still my black Gibson SG... many hate on SGs, but I haven't really bought that many guitars since getting it... :P
Very Cool and Very Interesting, Thankyou. My friends ask me why I have more than one electric and an acoustic Guitar...... They just don't understand. Each has its own personality and sound and story.
You get the best out of all the guitars you play. I've never you seen you play a 'PRS'. Or maybe you have. People always seem to rate them up there with decent 'Fender' and 'Gibson' guitars.
you should try one of those epiphone strats of the late 80s . I got one s310 and it’s an amazing guitar. I just changed the bridge and these microphonic pickups and it became my absolute favourite one now.
Love your vids you most often hit a nerve (in a good way lol) I have a mid 80s MIJ tele. Bought off ebay 2008 for £200 . I played it every day since. Sometimes all day. It got me through transition and my partner's death when I played it day and night till the bottom e broke. I wouldn't be alive without it. Needs a refret one day soon not sure how that will work
I love the look and sound of the guitar you used for the blues lessons the style of the pick ups set it apart from usual look of a strat the zero fret would lead me think it's a tiesco or jedson edit sorry got confused the guitar I was thinking of was the one in videos 1 to 5 not the one in video no9 which is a tiesco as my brother has the two pickup model
I have a 2002 Fender Sratocaster 50s reissue made in Mexico i believe is same model as yours but mine is in Dakota red what i really love because is a very difficult color to found , i think this color was used mostly if not on the Fenders custom shop and of course because it sounds amazing .Not my first guitar but is my First Fender guitar ever and also will always be with me 🙂 . I just would love to play at your level , but i have more guitars than i should and that because i love so much guitars 🎸. Right now looking to Yamaha SA50 from 1968 and Yamaha SG45 early 70's , just can't decide each one knowing the SG45 is more difficult to found if i go for the SA50 ! Most people will never understand that guitars are magical instruments and that's why only having one , never will be enough.
I don't even have a Top 10 guitars. Because I only own 7 guitars ^^ 8 if you count my Yamaha Guitalele. And 2 of them will absoutely never leave me, because I had them for so long. It's my Yamaha Pacifica from 1998, my first electric guitar that I got for Christmas that year (I even still have the small amp that I also got, it doesn't work anymore at all, but my cats love it and it looks cool) and the other one is my first acoustic guitar I bought at a legendary store in Cologne in the early 2000's. I don't remember the exact year, but it must be at least 20 years now.
Dave You can Eurostar train to Amsterdam now So you don’t have to drive. You and Queenie could even buy Interrail Train tickets and travel the UK & Europe for a month free on trains 👌👍
so apart from the pickups, body shape, finish, selector switch and colour... the Chapman's great! (just kidding, Having a "what have the romans done for us" moment) :)
My next door neighbor’s friend has a ‘61 Strat that used to be in seafoam but he hated the colour so he stripped the paint off. After finding out the price a seafoam strat from the early 60s costs he deeply regrets it 🤣
I think it’s hilarious to see the difference in our tastes has guitarists especially like treble for example you basically put your treble on your amp at zero while I basically crank the treble of my amp to the teeth lol also it’s interesting to hear your opinion on Jazzmasters and why you don’t like them, personally they’re easily my favorite guitar/fender model because they just mold onto you and they sound incredible and have a unique and beautiful sound. Another reason is also the tremolo personally I’m a massive fan of the Jazzmaster tremolo because it’s smoother and you can make it stiff and not wiggle around everywhere. And I know what I’m about to say is sacrilege but I think the Strat tremolo is garbage and just not even close to the quality control of the Jazz/Jag tremolo. But it’s my opinion I guess lol I personally believe the Jazzmaster is the best guitar Leo Fender ever designed in my opinion. Would love to see a full video on why you don’t like Jazzmasters
It is not over when we pass on Dave, Jesus has a body, its different but still a body, the bible in revelation says the elders had harps in heaven itself, if there is harps, then why not guitars when we get there. Then we leave heaven and live on a new earth Rev 20 and 21. And Jam for eternity. How many guitars can you collect in an eternity.
I know you started on a washburn I think BT2. You know there is a Gold Top P90 Washburn called "WI 64" I saw one on reverb last week, not sure if that is your style but yeah.
@davesimpson if you could create the most awsome guitar from clssic guitars to create a frankenlesfender what would you create it with neck/body/pickups/coils and pots/fretboard/tuning pegs/andd strings .
Having just acquired a lemon drop just wondering whether you still have yours? Appreciate the gold top is now your top dog but it doesn't do the Greeny out of phase tone. As for the Chapman - spray it spray it spray it.
i have just seen a revalation les paul in cash convertors f0r 49 pounds i dont get any money till tues will it still be there ? as far as i can see only thing that needs sorting is one tuner needs replacing as it is bent what do you think ..great video man
Cool guitars! That outro...WoW! ..... Yes- ,,He used to be a nice boy, he used to cut the grass, but as you can see music-girls -guitars- well, you know the rest...The white Zone is for loading and unloading only.....
ah...my favorite Oswald strat did not make the cut! I'm crushed! .....just kidding....you have some great guitars. I love the last Oswald strat you got in France..
@@thedavesimpson wow, thanks for the quick response. If you don't mind me asking how many guitars do you have? You have inspired me to practice so much.
As someone who lives in the Midwest USA, I have never heard an accent like yours/cicis, closest thing would be trainspotting or almost scottish like sean connery.... so what exactly is your accent? Lovely accent by the way
@@thedavesimpson O.k. thats a personal thing. I love stainless steel frets on my strats, Bendings are like a dream and they maybe last forever. I could not tell because I actually don't see any wear. Soundwise I think, it does not make a big difference. There is a great comparison video on UA-cam by Warmoth.

Absolutely love that T Shirt ❤️
You get the best out of all the guitars you play. I've never you seen you play a 'PRS'. Or maybe you have. People always seem to rate them up there with decent 'Fender' and 'Gibson' guitars.
you should try one of those epiphone strats of the late 80s . I got one s310 and it’s an amazing guitar. I just changed the bridge and these microphonic pickups and it became
my absolute favourite one now.
Love your vids you most often hit a nerve (in a good way lol)
I have a mid 80s MIJ tele. Bought off ebay 2008 for £200 . I played it every day since. Sometimes all day.
It got me through transition and my partner's death when I played it day and night till the bottom e broke. I wouldn't be alive without it.
Needs a refret one day soon not sure how that will work
Brilliant mate.
Please spray the Chapman white! I honestly think it’d look incredible, and there ain’t nothing wrong with making it your own!
If spraying #10 Chapman makes you Happy….Spray Away Brother! It’s YOUR guitar!
Hi Dave,
Now you have added the Oswald OS, 2022 Les Paul & Epiphone Adam Jones sig, how much would your list change, interesting
No6: big headstock + bullet trussrod = very cool
The Red Oswald is my number one Dave Simpson guitar and I want a copy to be my second Oswald
so apart from the pickups, body shape, finish, selector switch and colour... the Chapman's great! (just kidding, Having a "what have the romans done for us" moment) :)
My next door neighbor’s friend has a ‘61 Strat that used to be in seafoam but he hated the colour so he stripped the paint off. After finding out the price a seafoam strat from the early 60s costs he deeply regrets it 🤣
🤣
Good to see someone who's going with what they like, and not being told to like something they don't.
At one minute in my guess for #1 is Mr. White.
Absolutely 😊
If it hadn't been his '02 Mexi, we'd have had reasons to believe he'd lost his mind, really. That guitar is him.
Dear Dave , question sir .
What kind of p-ups are in your red favorite stratocaster? Thank you dear mate !!🙏 🤘😁
Oswald 62s.
Having just acquired a lemon drop just wondering whether you still have yours? Appreciate the gold top is now your top dog but it doesn't do the Greeny out of phase tone. As for the Chapman - spray it spray it spray it.
I do still have my lemon drop yes.
Cement made donkey is the best phrase you’ve used to date
You need to do your top 10 amplifiers
i have just seen a revalation les paul in cash convertors f0r 49 pounds i dont get any money till tues will it still be there ? as far as i can see only thing that needs sorting is one tuner needs replacing as it is bent what do you think ..great video man
Living to play the guitar is as good a reason as any. Yes I do understand. Perhaps I will never play like my hero's but I'll die trying.
Cool video dave did you enjoyed Black jimi hendrix stratocaster you had that received in the post? Awesome video!
I did yes. Thank you. :)
Cool guitars! That outro...WoW! ..... Yes- ,,He used to be a nice boy, he used to cut the grass, but as you can see music-girls -guitars- well, you know the rest...The white Zone is for loading and unloading only.....
26:57 Just curious if you remember the official name of that white color?
Olympic white
@@thedavesimpson Impressive, very nice...
Would you ever do a video where you compare the £200ish lp to a full fat gibson?
Yep. If i can get hold of one.
ah...my favorite Oswald strat did not make the cut! I'm crushed! .....just kidding....you have some great guitars. I love the last Oswald strat you got in France..
Where would you put your John Frusciante strat?
Maybe around 14 or 15.
Lovely accent by the way
I'm from lincolnshire. East coast of the uk.
I bought a seventies strat back in early 2000 for a few hundred pounds.
If you refret it so often, why don't you try stainless steel frets on your no. 1 workhorse ?
I don't really like them.
