I studied production engineering from NIT calicut. And still believe I got placement from college only bcz of it was NIT and not because of PE. If you have better option, then choose that like CS, CE, EEE, ME or EC. Many companies and most of the PSUs will not allow PE students and also you will have very less option for higher studies. Even though you will be studying most of ME subjects, 90% of companies will not allow PE. If you are in NIT you can able sit for interviews in companies like consulting, banking, education, service, management and you will be having very less option in core areas. But again, if you work very hard and get above 8.5 CGPA, and if u havr very deep technical knowledge, then you will have chance for getting in core companies.
