- This recording was in great shape - must have been a studio tape. I used Topaz to sharpen and clear up compression artifacts and also to upscale. Resolve was used to adjust the contrast and color.

Actually, it was from I think WCBS-TV (Channel 2) in New York as at the very beginning there was a promotion for their then-new 5:00 PM local time newscast.
Do you have any Nba games of the week from the 70"s that ABC and CBS ran back then?
@@ConradMason-ei8hmthat wound be fantastic!
Thank you so much for recording this game and all your games when I’m at home I watch these games it’s fantastic!! 😂✌🏽
Looks great and sounds great too.
Man, I am loving this! Especially as someone who grew up idolizing Dr. J... thank you so much!
One of the all time great athletes to ever play in the nba. I feel like only a handful of players since have been able to match his explosiveness and ability to hang in the air
@@JJ_5289And truly a classy gentleman.
@thomasleary2814 great representative for the game
❤️ dr.j my hero too, original airwalker & moonwalker on basketball court
Nothing better than watching 80s NBA with Larry and Dr J etc
Oldie/ nursing 🏡 home dr.j ,, early 1970s Dr j would've made a house call 📞 on Larry bird
The best era of the NBA.
I agree---- Loved from last half of 1973-74 to 1990. But 1977-1986 was the best and peak of my fandom. Always stayed up and watched those tape delay broadcasts. Even listening to games on the radio.
@@romelovesdan Right?! I remember going to bed, and then getting up to watch the Lakers playoff games that aired at 11:30 PM EST. (I followed Magic Johnson at Michigan St. and became a Lakers fan when they drafted him)
@@dantheman5745 That was the plan...sleep around 8PM if possible & back up at 11:25PM to get to the living room TV in time! Not a Laker fan, but lucky to have lived in the LA area at the time, so I was treated to Chick Hearn calling games and "simulcasting: on the radio.
@@romelovesdan 11:25 is right! LOL! That reminded me of the alarm clock I had. Sounded like a chainsaw. Scared the SNOT out of me. I'd sit on the edge of my bed for 2 or 3 minutes after waking up just to get my heart rate back down. 🤣
@@dantheman5745 Ha Ha. Grab a snack, drag a blanket....sit close to the TV so the volume was not too loud...hard not to make noise as most times I was so excited I watched while making some imaginary moves. Keep supporting the channel!
THE LARRY BIRD OF UPLOADERS HITS A 30 FOOT 3 POINTER!!!....Dave....from a lifelong Celtics fan...I GENUINELY APPRECIATE IT!!! Keep'em coming Larry!!
CBS did NBA basketball coverage very well back then.
Hearing the "Ace Of Swords" during the highlights was awesome.
I can’t thank you enough for bringing this recoding back to life. Though I grew up watching 90/2000’s NBA, I’ve always enjoyed watching the highlight films of the 70s and 80s. This video is the first time where I’m getting to watch detailed pre-90’s gameplay where I can clearly see player’s footwork, shooting skill, and play movement. Thank you so much!
Beautiful video, thanks for sharing. Wish they stilled played like this in the NBA
Wow! Wonderful footage! My gosh it looks better now than when I watched it back in the day on our 19” Zenith! Great memories watching these NBA greats!
Bill Russell sure was a great player. As a broadcaster … well … he sure was a great player.
This is pure gold. It’s amazing how much movement there was when the goal was to get close to the basket.
Some of my best memories with me and my father were watching these NBA games in the 70s and 80s. The pre Jordan years were pretty darn good, and that's no knock on Jordan himself.
John Tesh heard that opening theme and thought, "I could do that."
I had no idea he was a sportscaster, about ten years later round ball rock would open the NBA on NBC which is still most ppls favorite opening theme, certainly the best basketball theme. The SNL skit about it is really funny too, worth checking out by anybody who hasn’t seen it
“Ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-basketball…”
Extraordinary! What an NBA/1982 time capsule. Such high quality seems just like yesterday. Thank you.
Great video! I love the old commercials almost as good as watching Larry Legend vs The Doc.
Nice work! It's wonderful to see these NBA games again in such good quality.
The best the NBA ever was. Bonus having Vin Scully with his Maters cut in. Thanks, Dave
Love this Dave! I am a huge Larry Bird fan and watched a lot of his games live back in the 1980s! Thank you!
Damn almost 42 years ago. Older than me. That's nuts. Great stuff
This was the best nba on cbs intro...as a sixers fan this brings back so many memories
I always consider this the golden age of basketball, the Bird, Irving, Magic years and eventually Jordan a few years later. The rivalries were just so special. Just seeing the match up you knew it was going to be a dogfight to the end. Dick Stockton, Brett Musburger, and hear with Bill Russell and Billy Packard doing college games..great times.
They should have kept both Moses and DD
@@HelenMullins-po5pjnot possiblle
The pregame, the game (80s Celtics), the commercials, all in HD. Absolutely exceptional sir.
the TV commercials are for actual products and services - cars, car cleaning chemicals, a hotel spot, lawn mowers, a generator. todays TV commercials? insurance, gambling, and drugs
This is a massive exaggeration lmao. I see commercials for all of those things on TV and other forms of media all the time.
Dr.j was more 1970 nba basketball 🏀

Great trip back in time. I am a Lakers fan but these were two great teams. Thanks for posting
Yo, this is my favorite era of b ball, my favorite team (Celtics), against my favorite opponent at that time. Thank you!
Thanks very much!! A great era of the NBA and CBS...although John Tesh is quite a departure from Brent Musberger...
I would have loved to have seen Vin Scully call an NBA game for CBS.
John test belong on entertainment tonight, bring back Brent must burger on NBA basketball
@@tommyparkerparkerI think he was suited for a slower game baseball
Bobby Jones was a beast of a defender.
Larry brown taught him how to play the right way
Not bad offensively either, he was great in transition because of his freak leaping ability.
That's amazing to watch a basket game from the 82 in such a good quality.
Wow it is bizarre to see a regular season game from 1982 in this great of condition, no ghosting or anything. This looks like it is from five years later than it is
WOW! Spectacular quality! Like it was broadcast just yesterday. Huge Celtics fan. Love the hoops...please keep uploading whatever NBA games you can. Love the three you've posted. THANKS!
John Tesh was working for CBS Sports?!? Vin Scully doing The Masters?!! This is a goldmine of a sports video!
I'm enjoying this game so much, plus the commercials. It brings back a lot of great memories 😊
Wow. John Tesh did sports? Never knew that. CBS did a great job with the NBA during the late 70s and 80s. This was maybe a year or two before Stockton got paired with Tommy Heinsohn, who, in my view, were the Summerall and Madden of the NBA.
He composed the NBA on NBC theme, did you know that?
I think John Tesh did sports for CBS from 1981-1986. He went on to Entertainment Tonight after that.
Pat O’Brien and John Tesh were two broadcasters who worked for CBS Sports and it was their first Sportscasting experience. They had news/entertainment backgrounds prior to CBS Sports.
@@theflyingkaramazovbrothers6 Which in recent years is now FOX's College Basketball theme.
@@rjpsuh06I think Pat O'Brien ended up being an entertainment reporter after his days at CBS Sports were over. Can't remember off the top of my head if he joined John Tesh at ET or not.
@@waynestell2808 Pat O’Brien after CBS Sports joined Access Hollywood then The Insider.
Bobby Jones dunking on the fast break had a really unique look…not the same style as James Worthy, but no body else looks like them.
It's cool to hear Bill Russell talking about the rules for what's goaltending, especially when some of those rules didn't exist before he came along and made them necessary.
The irony of having the composer of the NBA on NBC theme doing studio work for this game!
Fantastic blast from the past! The ‘82 Masters must have been Vin Scully’s final CBS assignment before joining NBC for baseball in ‘83.
Nice to see a game that isn't just a 3pt. shooting contest.
That is why we got Moses next year and rest was history
Somewhere in heaven Moses is eating some defenders lunch on a basketball court.
Chairman of the boards@@victorkreitner754
I could not be more thrilled that you have done this. Thank you so much!
Now doing classic NBA from the best era in sports , you are definitely the man!!!
Wow, the basketball into is my favorite.. over the one they used in ‘83-84 season.. thanks for sharing
Dave this is fantastic! Wow, I can’t tell you how much I appreciate this…..feel like a kid here watching this
The quality of the picture here is probably better than it was during the original broadcast. I think we had just gotten cable at my house right around this time, and I don't remember it being this clear (those primitive days before HD). Great stuff right down to the old Lowenbrau commercials. Many thanks for posting this.
This was the NBA at its best. Celtics-Sixers in the East, and the Lakers in the West. My only disappointment was Boston losing to Philly in seven games in the conference finals. I was sure we were going to see a Bird vs. Magic Finals.
American broadcast quality was rubbbbish back then.
TY SO MUCH FOR O=UPLOADING THIS-I WAS 13 YEARS OLD WATCHING THIS,THOUGH I AM A NEW YORKER-I WAS MORE OF A 76ERS FAN THAT A KNICK FAN.GREAT MEMORIES
I'm loving this NBA streak of yours!
LOL, well it's only the second one I've done :)
breathtaking quality...both ballgame and video quality ;) The 80s never looked THAT good at the TV at the time :D
Tremendous upload. Thank you from Australia!
The quality of this video is crazy good
Man I was hoping you would upscale these 1980 NBA games. Best thing since sliced bread!
Problem was/is that I didn't have any more basketball or baseball games to enhance. Over the weekend a subscriber of mine graciously sent this game and a few others my way, but I'm still hurting for non-football content to work on.
Hi Dave! Awesome work! If possible can you please try to upload the 1975 Warriors Championship Season? The games vs the Bullets, Bulls, and Super Sonics. Also the playoff run vs the Pistons and Suns. Thank you, Ron
Dude all your videos bring me joy a great memories thanks for the uploads
Thank you so much for posting this. Brings back sweet memories
That's awesome. Be cool to see all the old games with the enhancement. It makes it more tolerable since were used to HD vision.
I bet this looks better than how it looked back in the Day.. Great upload 👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿
This is great Dave thanks for the real NBA games man The Doctor and Bird man this is Old School NBA!!!!
Amazing video quality, thank you!
fantastic quality! Thumbs up and greetings from a german NBA fan who got to see his first NBA games on VCR tapes in 1987.
This is incredible. Watching this is like time-traveling back to the Spectrum.
80s were awesome.
Awesome Dave! Absolutely love this era of basketball
Loved the Sixers. Knew their whole roster. I think everybody loved the Doctor! And then it was clinched for me later on when Moses arrived. So yes I hated everything about the Celtics.
...So in a nutshell it was I loved the Sixers...hated the Celtics...hated the Lakers
...but when the Lakers played the Celtics...absolutely loved the Lakers 😂😂
But as others have mentioned, I think all fans respected the other players from that era
Now not so much !
What a great game Dr J Larry Bird Celtics Vs 76ers that was a great rivalry back in the day.
Best quality i’ve ever seen from this era
Bravo
❤❤🎉🎉what a treat!!! Thank you so much!!
Back when the 3pt line was there for decoration.
I recall during the 82-83 season, the Lakers shot from beyond the arc 96 times while only draining 10! That was for the whole season. Yes, the 3 pt. shot was mainly used towards the end of the game when team is trailing by more than two possessions
Man, look at all those great golfers playing in The Masters that year. That was a golden time for the PGA.
What a fantastic work Dave. Thanks for the upload 🏀
When I want to watch a great basketball game today, these are the games I watch. Wow what a great game!
Great Fuckn Quality!!!Takin me back to my youth in Philly!!Bonus Masters/Tennis/NHL coverage makes it that much Better!!!I miss the old Spectrum 🔥 🔥 🔥
When I was a kid, this was the sharpness and resolution I THOUGHT I was watching at the time😅
Yessssssss. A little fuzzy felt like high def.
You are AWESOME for posting this!! Thank you!
Awesome watching this, thanks for uploading.
Amazing this channel is the truth this is the best ear in Basketball i remember this very game being a Dr.j , Larry Bird,& Magic and so many others of this era I appreciate these games and what you are doing thank you this is my channel I like your move to the NBA …..
Another classic. Dave, you are always awesome.
Damn! U, the intro. Doc dunking the ball out of bounds
His athleticism was mind-blowing. Lmao. Damn.
This is amazing the color quality I love this!!!
Awesome, love to see some classic NBA. I’m not a huge basketball fan but I was pretty into it for a while in the mid 80s to late 90s when Ewing was on the Knicks.
Awesome video quality!!
Ahhhh back when travelling and double dribbling was called...
12.8% interest rates..... we've come a long way.. thanks for sharing
Before Entertainment Tonight, producing sports TV theme music, and Life coaching on the radio, John Tesh was colleagues with legends such as Brent, Dick Stockton, and Vin Scully for CBS Sports!
Love this one....... Not a Celtics fan, but respected them. I was a Spurs fan and Dr, J kid. Ironically, I am just reading the book "Wish It Lasted Forever" by Dan Shaughnessy about this era's Celtics.... Dissention brewing in Bean Town over coach Fitch. Go Sixers - Go Doctor J ! PS- More games in the mail...!
I loved this era so much, even though I was kind of young to truly understand it and get into it, was born in 76, so was pretty much a small kid who was just growing up, but looking back on it, I truly appreciate that time, it was special, having great rivalries like, the Lakers and Celtics, Celtics and 76ers, Celtics and Pistons, 76ers, Lakers, ohhh man if I could only go back, I would in a second.
The hockey highlight was the "Miracle on Manchester" and lead to the Oilers being eliminated.
Definitely a nice little added bonus to go with some of the Masters coverage
If i had one wish it would be that every person that posts classic broadcasts of sporting events had topaz and resolve so every classic game on youtube would look as clear and perfect as the videos you post
There's a bit more to it than that, but I agree :)
John Tesh! Likely composing a new theme for NBA games during his down time at CBS.
On an offshooting night for Bird, he was still the best player on the court. A great game also for Cornbread and The Doctor.
bird not starting wtf
It was following the fracture of his zygotic(sp) arch by a Milwaukee elbow. He couldn't play for 5 games (I think) and then came in as 6th man for a number of weeks after.
@@cindyknudson2715 thank you for the context
22:12 first time I've ever seen the Doc's dunk blocked. McHale should be proud of that accomplishment. A lot of centers never blocked that shot.
Gonna follow this with the '82 Masters it sets up. Thanks so much. Love how it was easter weekend then too.
I hope people send you some Masters golf. Or Indy 500s. I have '95.
They did put it up a while ago (at least the final round). In pretty good shape too.

Thank you so much!!!! These games were awesome!!!!
Larry Legend!!!
Watching this makes me want to go out in the backyard to shoot some hoops. Today’s basketball not so much.
You are awesome!
Very clear, thanks
John Tesh doing sports? Jerry Buss wanted Ralph Sampson? Love this stuff!
When people like to point out that Magic made it the finals than Bird they forget to mention the East was way more competitive. The Lakers often benefited from teams in the east duking it out and having nothing left by the finals. Most notably in 82 and 87. The best team the Lakers played in the 87 playoffs had 42 wins for crying out loud no wonder they only lost one compared to the 86 Celtics that had the same playoff record but beat much better teams.
Larry Legend.
the 70’s and 80’ had without a doubt the best network sports music intros
Zinkoff - Sixers PA announcer was legendary !!!!!!!!!!!
“JULIUS EERRRVIIING”!
Yes he was
Once Archibald was gone, so was my interest in the Celtics.
Nice 👍
Hope to see more classic nba from you
John Tesh, responsible for composing one of the greatest sports theme songs of all IMO, "Roundball Rock".
