Hi guys. Waylon was huge! He was playing in Buddy Holly's band back in the day. He was supposed to be on the plane with Buddy the night that Buddy died in the crash. He and another band member were asked to give up their seats for 2 other performers, Ritchie Valens and The Big Bopper. Then many years later there was a Country Supergroup called The Highwaymen. It had Waylon, Willie Nelson, Johnny Cash and Kris Kristofferson. As to the story telling, it has been said for many years that country is 3 cords and the truth.
The Willie in "Waylon and Willie and the boys" is none other than Willie Nelson who sings the last verse in the song and reverses it to "Willie and Waylon and the boys".
Love Waylon. You should check out "The Highway Men". It's a group with Waylon Jennings, Willie Nelson, Johnny Cash, and Kris Kristofereson. They are awesome!! And it's always good to hear Willie and Waylon together. I too used to only listen to hard rock but then I was rescued by Willie and Waylon and others. I branched into everything when I turned 50.
Waylon was one cool mother thats made him so relatable. Saw him live back in the 70's and he wasn't feeling no pain lol. Dude was a legend and thats what mattered. Waylon is my #1 Merle #2
Waylon busted open Nashville..he had his own sound and was the very first to get a platinum, triple and quadruple platinum to come out of Nashville. He lived every song..
The song refers to a couple whose position in "high society" has placed strains on their marriage ("this successful life we're livin' got us feudin' like the Hatfields and McCoys") and finances ("four-car garage, and we're still buildin' on"). Named for German nobleman Jakob Luckenbach, who helped settle the Texas Hill Country in 1845, Luckenbach is known as a venue for country music and for its German-Texan heritage. Peace out.
a song that you will probably REALLY ENJOY(now that you two are appreciating 'old time' country music) is: George Jones singing: WHO'S GONNA FILL THEIR SHOES
Waylon used to complain that the writers of the song had never been to Luckenbach and didn't know anything. Luckenbach was a dead township that got put on the national map when Jerry Jeff Walker recorded a album in an old dancehall there. He was credited with starting the outlaw country music scene with the album(Viva Terlinga). Great album.
In the 1950's Waylon played bass for Buddy Holly. February 3, 1959, Waylon was supposed to be on that fatal flight that killed Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens, and J.P. Richardson (the Big Bopper). Richardson was sick so Waylon gave up his seat on that plane to the Big Bopper. February 3, 1959,, the day the music died, "American Pie" by Don McLean
....my wife and I were driving our motorhome through Texas, heading south out of New Mexico once, and about 50 miles north of San Antonio... along an old country road we saw a sign nailed to a tree trunk....the sign said...................... DOWNTOWN LUCKENBACH
I've always enjoyed Waylon's music especially from the 60's-80's. I remember his theme song "Good Ol' Boys" from "The Dukes Of Hazzard". Some other songs I like are "Only Daddy That'll Walk The Line", "Mammas Don't Let Your Babies Grow Up To Be Cowboys", "Don't You Think This Outlaw Bit's Done Got Out Of Hand?", "Are You Sure Hank Done It This Way", "Good Hearted Woman", I'm A Ramblin' Man" etc. He was part of the legendary Highwaymen supergroup with Willie Nelson, Kris Kristofferson & Johnny Cash.
I think that does some Willie Nelson plus plus Waylon Jennings get him together again let's still have good hearted woman good hearted woman that's the song it's willie Ann Wayland h*** yeah right now
I don't know brother but if you ever watched the Duke's a hazard TV show? Well it's got a kick a** song starting out this show and Wayland jennings is the one that does that song the theme song from a doksa hazard by Waylon Jennings had to kick your a**

Willie has collaborated with many a folk. One great tune, with Merle Haggard, is their version of "Pancho And Lefty''. The "Jerry Jeff" mentioned in the last verse is Jerry Jeff Walker, best know for "Mr. Bojangles", but he does a heart-felt "Desperados Waiting For A Train".
Do you know everything about the Duke's hazard was good stuff Daisy of course the fast cars moonshine mountains hail hot more cool to my grandma but the d*** song the theme song from a doksa hazard while in Jennings does that when the attic is stuff like just some good old boys yeah
Such a wonderful song. Waylon Jennings really struggled with survivors remorse because Richie Valenz was sick and they had a plane that three could go on and the rest had to take the long bus ride home so Waylon gave Richie his seat on the plane. The weather was bad and the plane crashed and killed Richie, Buddy Holly and The Big Bopper The line in the song American Pie talks about the front page of the paper and refers to it as the day the music died.
It feels like grandma's house because....You're from Bakersfield...I saw him there a couple of times, and other places as well over the years (Bako born and raised myself👍)
Yes, that other voice was Willie Nelson himself. I saw your face perk up when you noticed it wasn't Waylon singing this verse, but I guess you didn't pick up on it being Willie Nelson himself. Those two are longtime friends from way back.
With my name being Wayland (the original old English spelling), when this came out people started asking me where Willie was and if we were on the way to Luckenbach. LOL Waylon, a true musical pioneer from rock & roll to outlaw country. Please, please expand your exposure to music in general.
How do you like that well a nelson? On the road again I gotta have that every time I go on a road trip Blair and Willie Nelson doing a song called on the road again all right now
Have you ever heard that theme song from a Duke's a hazard? That's a good while and chatting sweat there just some good old boys Hey just like me just go
Waylon is a Country Music legend, from back in the day when Country was still Country. (Not like this new stuff they call Country.) When you're up for another helping of Waylon's music, "WURLITZER PRIZE" ua-cam.com/video/ysbqVwVqDIE/v-deo.html is the epitome of a Country Music song. My personal favorite is a Bob Dylan song that Waylon covered, "DON'T THINK TWICE IT'S ALRIGHT ua-cam.com/video/2GTl6-BJhvc/v-deo.html. Both are fabulous, so don't deprive yourselves. ;)
Waylon Jennings and Elvis actually started out together with Johnny Cash at Sun Records in 1955. None of them were known to anyone in the world at that time starting out as 18 ear old young men. There is a famous picture of them, that was taken in the recording studio of this little just started, small new record company named "Sun Records." Can you imagine what they had standing in their little recording studio, with Elvis, Waylon Jennings, and Johnny Cash all together as young men of 18 to 20 yrs. old? If they only knew what all of them would turn out to be in a couple of years, and Elvis in a couple of months after his first record went Platinum! Thanks folks
