  • Does your car smell damp, or even mouldy? Don't overlook it- it's probably not just you! Today I will walk you through how I resolved that damp, mouldy smell from my Landcruiser.
    Common symptoms that your windscreen is leaking, causing dampness in your car:
    -Smells damp after being shut up for extended periods of time
    -Windows form condensation on warm days
    -Water in foot wells
    -Water under rubber mats
    -Damp carpet in your car

    Does anyone know if this is a problem for 70 series Cruisers?
    Mine in particular is a 2010 76 series. Does not have a damp smell.
    But if you leave the car standing for a few days it has a strong industrial smell. 😳
    My Dad reckons it's only the materials and glue that Toyota used that makes the car smell that way. He had a 79 series as a company car and he thought it was only his one that smelled like that. 🤪
    (The 79 series also had a lot of previous users)

    Awesome mate. As soon as summer kicks in my 105 windscreen is coming out. Fixing the small amounts of rust and no more bloody wet floor mats in winter. Had my old girl for 20 years just cant part with her . Cheers

      B. D They become part of the family after a while 😂 I couldn’t ever part with mine either. The rust does creep up on you though, and it’s important to keep an eye on that rust around the windscreen! As you said it soon creates leaks

      👍 after having the after market turbo installed are you considering beefing up the gearbox?

    • @WillsLandcruiser
      @WillsLandcruiser  3 роки тому

      B. D Not at this point in time. There’s a few things I’d like to do first. Considering I’m not making excessive power, I don’t personally see it as necessary at this point in time, but if I ever noticed problems then I would definitely get around to that

      Ill stay tuned mate and really enjoying channel. These Toyotas weren't made to throw away after 300k like most of the new ones. I lov reliability when in the middle of nowhere. Take care 👍

    • @WillsLandcruiser

      No worries mate! The windscreen replacement was a bit over $500. One of the best things I’ve done to that cruiser!

    Don't know what it is with the 100s but rust in the window frame is very common

    • @WillsLandcruiser
      @WillsLandcruiser  3 роки тому +1

      I’ve heard this a lot, which is exactly why I decided to make a video about it. Real shame but the new window was applied way better than the old one would have been so it shouldn’t be a problem again!

    Mate what did you not fix the rust before the screen went back in?

    • @WillsLandcruiser
      @WillsLandcruiser  3 роки тому

      Ran over it with a wire brush wheel and put a good zinc primer on there. The rust that was left really didn’t interfere with the windscreen. I had a complete cut and polish done recently that touched up the rust spots on top of the windscreen. Should be sweet now

    • @dancotter7050
      @dancotter7050 3 роки тому

      @@WillsLandcruiser I only ask as i have a hdj105 which had no signs of rust. Windscreen removal showed some similar bubbles to yours which i had fixed and repainted. I was burnt on a patrol in the past which over 2 years rusted away completely after a dodgy windscreen install where they scratched painwork and did not treat it.

    • @WillsLandcruiser
      @WillsLandcruiser  3 роки тому

      @@dancotter7050 I didn’t have a lot of say in the replacement as I was paying them to do the job to the quality they would on any other windscreen. I do have confidence in the way they treated the rust and the way it was resealed though. There was a fair bit of work that went into the rust off camera, and everything under the seal was wire brushed, treated and sealed to a high quality. The rust further up the windscreen was really just from stone chips and this was treated at my recent cut and polish touch up. It definitely could have all been treated at the same time, but as you can imagine, I didn’t expect the mechanics to go all out on rust repair and repainted unless I was prepared to spend thousands

    How much did the new carpet cost mate, was it genuine

    • @WillsLandcruiser
      @WillsLandcruiser  3 роки тому +2

      It was about $500 from a Melbourne company called All Car Carpets. Not genuine but it was moulded in some places. Took a bit of cutting to shape but in the end it came up really tidy! I have a video on the carpet install too
