- It’s fantastic to see these aircraft now operational with the 495th Fighter Squadron, part of the 48th Fighter Wing at RAF Lakenheath.
These two aircraft were under the callsign VALKYRIE01 (19-5474) and VALKYRIE02 (19-5476)

Had two of these flying over us doing manoeuvres while fishing on a boat in the middle of a Welsh reservoir yesterday. Bloody terrifying they were so low.

Surely these are US aircraft and pilots, the UK does not operate the F35a variant. The UK only has 19 operation F35b variants.

Badass fighter jet, we just had an airshow yesterday and they brought the F35 Lighting demo team, and boy you could feel the power of the aircraft. If I were a dictator I would be shitting bricks seeing this jet in my country.
The F35 is not a fighter and could never cut the mustard against modern fighter jets or even 3rd/4th generation fighter aircraft. The F35 is a jack of all trades and a very slow one at that.

How do you find out about all the movements such as the u2 and b52. Can't see it on adsb exchange. How do I track them too?
I use ADSB but the U-2s never show on there. There are various Fairford FB groups too bud 👍
These are just great to see here. However, can somebody please tell me why you dont get to see them on Flight Radar24 or the Military Freedar? That also goes for the RAF F35's.

I wonder in the F-35 is power applied during the flare to arrest the rate of descent as that’s something not done in any other fast jet?
It does but because all 3 airframes have the inherent strengthening from the naval variant the pilots tend to plunk her down because she can take it

Good question bud. Lakenheath is an RAF station but the USAF runs and operates the base. The same is true with a few other RAF installations around the U.K. such as Fairford and Mildenhall. There were a lot more during the Cold War, like Alconbury, Bentwaters, Woodbridge and Upper Heyford, but after the US left they have mostly fallen into disrepair, which is a great shame. They all have histories spanning several decades and in many cases were important bases used in WWII.

@@andydoney5581 The RAF do not operate Tornados and the two UK carriers can only operate with NATO (USMC) aircraft as the RN have none.
@@andydoney5581 the UK has only got 19 F35b, the slowest and weakest variant as the QE class carriers can not launch any other aircraft type due to lack of a proper launch system, the UK carriers use USMC aircraft and pilots mostly, The typhoons are excellent aircraft but they are getting sold of gradually as they are getting on now and can not be used on any carriers, the last 72 RAF T1 Hawks have already been sold of this month.
@@andydoney5581 Yeah, only 19 aircraft to be split between 2 carriers and the RAF, 6 each for the carriers and 7 for the RAF, that is laughable at best plus the fact that the RN only has one operation destroyer leaving the POW having to be escorted by Dutch and Norwegian vessels, no idea why it even needs an escort as it has not got one single fixed wing aircraft on it. I can assure you I was not around in 1940.
@@andydoney5581 LOL, the RAF had over 30 times the aircraft in WW2 than it does now, the UK does no even have a single bomber to its name and as for you comment claiming that the UK has the 5th largest army in the world, that is also nonsense, the UK is not even in the top 25 by size of its army, you are clearly deluded in thinking that the UK has an airforce or a navy worth a mention, it does not and its silly little helicopter carriers are nothing more than NATO taxis for countries that actually have aircraft that can fly from them.

F-35's single exhaust always looks weird - so different than what we've seen for decades with twin-engine birds. Well, there's the F-16, but . . . something's just weird, like aliens helped design it. Don't worry, I'll get used to it.

The best thing about F35 is when a runway gets taken out, the F16s, F15s and others are grounded. The F35 has VTOL. Don’t need no stinking runway.
Be aware that not all variants of the F-35 have VTOL capabilities. It's only the F-35B that can do that. The F-35A and F-35C will both be grounded too in such a scenario.

@@lantrick There is no need for user manuals per se. The 3 military branches of the United States fly the 3 different variants of the F-35.
The F-35A for the Air Force.
The F-35B for the Marines.
The F-35C for the Navy.
These branches know exactly which F-35 variant they are operating, considering they spent billions of dollars developing and procuring their particular F-35 variant. Pilots from each branch spend months training how to fly their particular variant of the F-35. So, it is highly unlikely that one of these pilots would mistake the F-35 variant they are flying. They all know very well which one is the VTOL variant and which one is not.

REAL 6th Gen fighter along with its cousin the F-22. Glad we got the "kinks" worked out. russia/china can not match them.
The F35 would down any of that Chinese or Russian junk before they were in visual range.

They are 5th generation aircraft and both are outclassed by 3rd and 4th gen aircraft. The "kinks" have never been worked out yet especially of the F35 (never ready) models.

The Brits are capable of building their own aircraft. They just prefer sharing the costs with others by partnering when they need an aircraft : e.g. Typhoon, F-35, Tornado

It seems funny as if the F-35 is so successful why is the US navy concidering bringing back the F-14 to replace it. The navy is so unhappy with the aircrafts performance , cost over run , and delays they are negotiating to bring back an updated F-14 production run.

Rolling start with low thrust, then smoothly increasing to full power on 2800 metre runway. Technique looks correct to me.
I don't see the importance of how much you spend vs. distance it takes to take off? Why is this important do you think?
If JRL Charts is a big fan of short takeoff distances, rather than the complex multivariate optimisation problem that is fighter jet design and engineering, then he/she should stick to watching videos about helicopters (or the F-35B VTOL!).
