They can still be had I expensive if you don't mind a little miles. I don't because I know they run forever with proper maintenance and complete rebuild is affordable. I bought 2 within the last year. NY first Suburban and my first Yukon. Both 4x4s. The Burban is the holy grail Z71❤
Few upgrade ideas…definitely some spot lights, Amazon has a bolt on bracket that you can add directly to your hood bolts. I added a rear step bumper from a newer Silverado with slight adjustments. Fabricating or finding some molle panels to bolt on by the rear side window would help with storage space while not taking too much space. Currently in the process of making a full length roof rack from extruded aluminum

I know this is an older video but I'm just starting to fix up my 2003 Tahoe LT 4X4. The transmission went out at 240,000 miles but I refused to get rid of it. Starting my research to get my Tahoe trail ready and found your video!
Still looking twd my trip to Vegas as soon as I can. One of my best friend just bought a c6 2011 vetted orange with a red tent to it. He was showing me your video on the touch screen that replaces your stereo and ac controls. Will send you photos sometime soon. Take care. (I corrected the c5 and replaced it with c6 )
They're hard to beat honestly...I knew they'd do well, but you can certainly do a lot with them and there is enough aftermarket for sure. I have some new videos coming with the GMT800's. Coilover conversion for the Tahoe also.
I’m building a 02 Tahoe Lt/ Z71 clone. I’ve debadged it and swapped out the valance and roof rack from the z71. Just got my fox 2.0s in the mail and have a some 3”keys and spacers for the rear. I’ve had a remanufactured transmission installed as well as the differential rebuilt which had become necessary after a 2600 mile trip and a lot of donuts (kilt my g80)😆 looking forward to some major overlanding and long road trips📍 Looking forward to more GMT800 videos from your channel🤙🏾
@@KnightDriveTV awesome I’ll be keeping an eye for the parts you design forsure! I’m very impressed with headlights you came up with for the corvettes, I’m sure you have somethings up your sleeve.
I have the winch setup and some things coming among my Corvette content. This channel is kind of split between Corvette and Tahoe....so keep an eye out!
You should...theyre great vehicles for the price. The Tahoe wheelbase is pretty short for offroad so you can really use it well, Its very capable. Even my friends suburban in other videos...we have taken that thing pretty far. They do well.
I have the same z71, I installed a 6.0 with the 470 trans added a second battery no need for solor panels. Added the trail boss weeks with new BFs with SS steering wheel. You may want to get a tracker or it will get stolen already happens to me never found my Z71 this one fixed is my 4th Z71
Nice truck. I’m surprised these aren’t more popular in the overlanding world. There’s nothing special about the 4Runner. Tahoe and 4Runner are both IFS and have an open front differential. They both have the pros and cons of IFS. Personally I’d solid axle swap that Tahoe with a set of Off Road Design custom leaf springs and a Dana 60.
I am surprised as well. When offroad, people are often shocked at seeing the Tahoe or Suburban. These Jeep guys really think they need Jeeps I guess. I like being comfy and Jeeps are too small

In the front, the drop bracket lowers the member, so the axles are good up front. Out back, the xcase remains stock, but the axle is dropped...no vibrations from ujoints or anything...it's a pretty common setup. What I don't care for is the exposed torsion bars, so I think coilovers up front are a must. The rear springs give height but they are very stiff. I really need a good damper out back with the length and compression to be ok throughout the entire range....that's what I'm stuck on.
I just bought a 2003 Chevy Express all wheel drive is that I'm converting to an overland rig and would like to collab and maybe off-road and overland with you guys one day
Any tips on first things to do? Just picked up a clean 00 Tahoe with rear locker, tow package , 4x4. Sits low for my taste. Any suggestions on bringing it up just a bit?
question for you regarding the GMT400 and GMT 800's. Im looking at picking up a 1999 GMC Yukon. From everything I'm seeing on the internet a 1999 is considered a GMT800, any parts for 400's list through 1998, but my Yukon is the flat box styling of the 400's. Anyone in the comments who knows anything about this year, knowledge is appreciated.
Good afternoon. Just watched your Tahoe and suburban video build. Are you guys still going offroad camping ? I have a 96 burb and a 05 z71 burb too. My 96 is my overland build.
Yes definitely. I have added an H2 Hummer build also, and videos on that will be releasing shortly. I have faced some changes, so I may have to take on more of a solo position with offroading, but GMT content and products are ahead!
@KnightDriveTV very cool. I was going to try to come out later prob middle of next year sometime to Vegas. I was going to see if you wanted a visitor for a camp night out with some 4 wheeling. I can confidently say I have used/abused, offroaded and angled and slapped that tent all over. It is mounted to the factory z71 bars with absolutely no issues. Where the tent mounts we did use some strips of rubber for extra grip side to side, etc but they work great up there.

When I got the truck it was trimmed already. I have increased the lift height about 1.5". Currently it is on 17x9's, et -12's. 35x12.5's of course. No rubs at all now and prob wouldnt have required trims at this height.

Tahoe and yukon match and suburban and yukon xl match. The differences are very slight, but in this generation one key difference is the Z71 tahoe/suburban comes with a better roof rack than was available on gmc. Gmc was known for a bit nicer interior. In the end, they arent much different but gmc got weird with awd models I think...dont hold me to that though.

Both our vehicles in the video are Z71's which come with a beefier roof rack than normal tahoes/silverados, escalade, etc. Even still, we questioned the ability of the rack to do the job. The Tahoes tent is about 140lbs and Lace and I have both stayed in it without issue. In the Suburbans case, he has the XL tent which is likely 165lb and he, his wife and child slept in there easily. Factory Z71 crossbars, only 2, Gen2 smittybilt overlander, the suburban is also using 2 crossbars with the gen2 smitty overlander xl. We have offroaded extensively with them up there, no issues at all.

Remove cap near swivel base, two small washers behind upper fasteners only. Couldnt handle tilt up, its awful.
