- I look at how Ted Turner built up a massive movie and television library by buying MGM (briefly), Hanna-Barbera and New Line Cinema.

Just imagine a world where Cats Don't Dance was delayed to April 18 1997 and had a much better marketing campaign. It would have made $55 million domestically and $106 million worldwide.
Great video on Turner Entertainment’s history. It’s a shame Turner Pictures and Turner Animation both failed to last long as they should have as I think they had a lot of potential that they never really realized, but I guess that’s just the thing with mergers, some divisions stay active while others end up getting folded.
There’s one thing that puzzles me, though. If Turner Entertainment really cared about animation that much, then why did 1992’s Tom and Jerry: The Movie turn out as awful as it did?
I still like Hanna-Barbera Animation Studios!
Still known for making Scooby-Doo, Frankenstein Jr. & The Impossibles, The Jetsons, The Flintstones, Jabberjaw, Goober & The Ghost Chasers, Space Ghost and more!
Time Warner (now WarnerMedia) completed acquiring Turner Broadcasting System 25 years ago.
Even though MGM doesn't own their own movies anymore I want to thank Ted Turner for preserving all these classic films
@@donaldmelvin4348 Without Ted Turner, the classics would have been nothing.
He was spoofed by the creators of the cult animated sitcom The Critic as Duke Phillips
1:32 -1:38 Universal owning twenty years worth of Paramount's library is another example of this.
Through MCA
And DreamWorks animation via the post

@@dawsonnealy3196 yeah.I forgot that Universal owns Paramount characters such as Casper.

There's also A Prequel to "Gettysburg" called "Gods & Generals".
As for Cartoon Network Studios, it was originally a unit of Hanna-Barbera Before reviving in 2001.
I remember in Gremlins 2: The New Batch, there was a running gag where John Glover's Daniel Clamp kept trying to make colorized versions of classic black-and-white movies. I wonder if Ted Turner was the inspiration for that.
I believe Clamp was meant to be a combination of Ted Turner and Donald Trump (back when Trump was just seen as a rich businessman), so you're spot-on.
The scene where Clamp puts on an "end of the world" tape as the Gremlins are running amok in his building was also inspired by Ted Turner commissioning a similar video for CNN to run when the appropriate time came.
@@MrCoat I always noticed that Clamp was at least partially inspired by Trump. In fact, at one point in the movie, one of the voice-overs in the building's loudspeaker said "Mr. Clamp would make a great president." That's very...interesting in hindsight.
Nice Video!
I wish TBS was still viewable in Canada
5:13 well we got that eventually at least
Can you also do the history of Village Roadshow Pictures?
Can you please do a video discussing the short lived partnership dreamworks and Aardman had?
Video 2 of me asking: 'Can you do a video talking about the concept and some executions of Independent productions like movies, TV shows, video games, and music videos? Pleasey wheezy lemon squeezy?'.
You forgot to mention that Turner tried a second chance to buy MGM with MGM/UA Communications Co., including United Artists and its’ library, in very late November 1989 but failed and Time Warner tried to buy MGM multiple times in 2004 when they were up for sale but outbid by Sony just for their then-new Blu-ray format at the time and in 2010 when they were on verge of bankruptcy along with Fox, who was their then-home video distributor at time, and News Corp.
Well, MGM was acquired by Amazon 9 months ago.
@@DennisTamayo But he didn’t even mentioned it, he didn’t even looked up on Wikipedia.
@@ArMartz I did looked up on Wikipedia.
@@DennisTamayo Do you want Warner to buy MGM ?
@@DennisTamayo Are you gonna hate Dee Dee ?
Maybe one day there can be a new Space Jam film in which The Looney Tunes & MGM-Turner’s cartoon characters team up for a Basketball game against the Disney Characters!!!
I’d pay to see that
If it weren't for Ted Turner, we would never have been able to introduce movies and cartoons like the Wizard of Oz and Scooby Doo to a new generation...thanks Ted!

I have mixed feelings with Hanna-Barbera as much as I like Scooby-Doo, The Flintstones, Wacky Races and Top Cat, they didn't do a good job with Britain's SuperTed character with The Further Adventures Of SuperTed.
