The cutting of the video , the camera effects the lighting , fuckin everything , the sound quality , the pondies jumping jumping this is fuckin crazy it takes me takes me back to the days those happy days circa 89-91 I’m still obsessed and my mind has been blown even further apart by this display which is of course worthy of complete and utter laudation , thanks whoever put this together and posted it what a gem to treasure for ever and ever through the days and through the nights . Miss you Tim
My parents met in the Surbiton Assembly Rooms in 1962. My sister had her wedding reception there in 1995. I wish I’d had been a teeeeeeny bit older when this gig happened (I was 12). Because we were huge fans of the band from when A Little Man album came out, in fact it’s what turned the corner away from thrash metal to other things. I saw them in either 1989/90 or 91 (not sure I usually keep stubs scrupulously but not this one) thank goodness. I miss this special band. I think it’s jolly selfish of Timmy and Tim to just fuck off like they did. Bastards. Wonderful wonderful bastards.
I do think we have some pretty good bands still nowadays. Black Midi comes to mind. But Cardiacs have claimed a very chunky place in my heart, despite only finding out about them last year. They’re my favourite band since my first proper listen of Sing to God.
@@martijns.9774Black Midi are great. A bit repetitive and jam sounding to me though. Also, they seem to be wanting to make an album that Fantano would rate 10 😅 Is that youth? 🤷🏻
Fantastic to see this version all put together! I think this is basically the version that Mark Francombe and I (Nick E) filmed on 2 U-Matic cameras and then Edited as part of our film course at the Portsmouth Video Workshop with lots of help from Tim and the band. The master and rushes disappeared into the Cardiacs mire at some point, never to be seen again and I only had VHS snippets. Gehenna the Horse then showed up with more snippets (who is Gehenna the Horse? - nobody knows except the horse). This is definitely better than any other version I have seen before. The sound sounds like the audio we used which was recorded on a Nagra 2 track Film audio recorder with one track being a Mic near the desk and the other being a mono feed from the desk. We also had audio recorded on the Umatic cameras. I am pretty sure that no other recording was made from the desk because we would have used it. Unless that is what you have Chasing? We used the Nagra because it was supposed to be crystal synced to the cameras. It wasn't so I had to vary the speed as we were editing to get it to match the cameras - hence the delay you can hear quite noticeably in some tracks. This was shot just under four months before I was born. A Little Man (etc) was fully formed before I'd even sprogged out into the world. A glorious and marvellous record of a weird, pre-apocalyptic grey cold war nuclear panic time. GNU Dr Tim Smith ❤
What a brilliant night it was a few drinks in the Waggon and Horses then a sublime night in the Assembly Halls. I saw the The Cardiacs so many times over the years from their Cardiac Arrest days to as far as I can remember but enjoyed the local gigs around Kingston, Surbiton and New Malden. RIP Tim. Thanks for this version, so good.

Can you, answer this question. Why can you not finish the set list? There is a full version with the last 4 tunes, it does exist. What is stopping you from finishing it, what can be done ? Thanks x
I was wondering what happened to Tarred and Feathered. I saw them lots around that time and supported them a couple of times. It was usually their penultimate song.

I challenge any modern band to get anywhere near this level of artistry and musicianship.

You turned me on to Black Midi, good band. Different, compelling. @@martijns.9774

@TheBigMaclargehuge No one can make songs this original and good simultaneously. That’s for sure.
i remember reading somewhere someone saying they have more talent in one song than a lot of bands have in their entire repertoire
