  • In this vr devlog, I wanted to show off the digging system in my scifi indie vr game. It is the basic mechanic for the game with a lot of mechanics that still need to be implemented. Instead of using a voxel world with marching cubes like minecraft, or wave function collapse algorithm like phantom brigade or townscaper. I created my own dirt digging system in this immersive vr game in the metaverse, that would fit the needs of my vr game. Stick around for more details on using the dirt system in later videos. For now check out the resources below.

    The intro was super nice and got me immersed and intrigued in the game’s world. I honestly watch your vids religiously now 😂 Who needs sleep anyways, trash begone!

    Great intro, had me thinking I was about to start a d&d campaign. I'm already sizing up the trash be gone to see what I can fit in there to be gone.

    Looks great! From your explanation of the lever, will it move down if you just hover your hand over it or do you have to move your hand?

    • @Blekoh
      @Blekoh  2 роки тому +1

      Thanks! So basically the lever has a collider that is fairly small (on the red part), when you stick your hand on the lever collider it moves it down but it stops moving down once it moves down far enough to where the collider is not touching your hand anymore. Which while you aren't touching the collider it slowly moves back up (until you are touching the collider again). So in order to move it all the way down you have to move your hand down to follow the collider. So it feels like you are actually pushing it down.
      Its kind of a trick so that for levers that rotate as they get pulled/spun (like a wheel), I don't have to do any inverse kinematics to keep the lever stuck to the players hand (I just use the built in animation)

    You may have already noticed this, but the TRASH B-GONE mechanic as shown in the video has a limitation/flaw. I don't know if there is a term for it, but as the player digs out further they have a longer travel distance. This video covers the concept well: ua-cam.com/video/AM6nVgKjBQo/v-deo.html. There are probably dozens of ways to work around or with that limitation, just thought I'd share my thoughts.

      There is more than 1, so essentially as you go you have a new “home base” since there are multiple pods and the larger pods have a trash-b-gone

    Maybe the machine could extract some tiny amount of metal or other minerals from the dirt? To be honest, otherwise it kind of feels like the machine and inventory restrictions are just busywork for the player, and doesn't really add any more depth to the game, but on the other hand, I don't know the long terms plans you have for the game.

      Yeah thats definitely a good idea 👈👈 and yeah haha I definitely do have a lot more planned for the game which hopefully will tie it all together.
      It is still early on and currently the feel of the game is going from more of that tech demo feel to more of an actual game feel but there is still a long way to go 🤖

    What an intro!!! Did Ex Versa went in the "trash begone" or is it still a thing?

    • @Blekoh
      @Blekoh  2 роки тому

      Haha I’m still deciding things on Ex Versa… There’s been a lot of 2d rpgs and fighters in the past year or so that have been pumped out (a lot of them are pretty meh) and so I felt like I needed to rethink some things around it a) so it can stand out a bit and b) so it doesn’t truly end up in the trash begone lol
