After his father is killed in a tragic accident, young Jim Craig (Tom Burlinson) has to leave the mountains, where he has grown up, to look for work. He makes the acquaintance of grizzled prospector Spur, and Spur's more respectable brother Harrison (both played by Hollywood legend Kirk Douglas -- Spartacus). When Jim falls for Harrison's daughter, however, the old man doesn't approve. But Jim is in love and won't be deterred. He will prove his worth, no matter what the challenge!
Adapted from the epic poem by 'Banjo' Patterson (Waltzing Mathilda), and filmed on stunning locations, The Man From Snowy River isn't just a glorious Australian classic: it's one of the finest family films ever made.

All the romantics today, whom still exist, will always remember this movie.
Greatest movie ever made. I’m not joking when I say I’ve seen it over 500 times since I started watching when I was 8 👀🤍

A favourite Australian classic of mine. I must also admit so many years on that Sigrid Thornton was my very 1st actress-crush

Best horse movie ever!
Man from snowy river is one of my favourite movies
Jist watched this movie for the first time in 40 years. Still amazing.
Pretty much memorized every line family favorite. I was lucky to show draft horses and draft mules in competition with my dad and brother for over 30 years and this movie was an inspiration really for me at least. We quot different lines often. Classic movie from my childhood
I was one 8-year old boy who got totally lost in Sigrid Thornton’s eyes. 😍
Agree. Shes beautiful.
I was so in love with “Jim” as a little girl and grew up to fall in love with a young man who looked a lot like him 😅
One of my all time Australian favourites. Great stuff. Tom Burlinson, Jack Thompson, Sigrid Thornton and Kirk Douglas are great. My Mum spoke to Gus Mercurio one day. He indicated a sad story to come from it was that Kirk Douglas was always complaining about never getting paid enough for playing two roles. After the last day of shooting, a stretch limo turned up. Douglas got in, never said goodbye to anyone and simply drove off. It says a lot that his first name rhymes with a word starting with the letter J.
Pity. He played such a great and likeable role with Spur.
One of many little pictures made in the 80's that studios did not think were worthless and turned around and brought home the gold at the box office.
Most romantic movie ever!
When movies were wholesome..
On my list to see now. Just discovered this one. The horses! 🙂
You watched it?
We have this on DVD in the family collection. I only watched it recently as I didn’t think it would be my sort of film but it was surprisingly good even for someone who mainly watches noir I enjoyed it. Most are Australian so not that well known other than Jack Thompson and the great Kirk Douglas obviously but I couldn’t fault any of the performances.
EPIC MOVIE ALONG WITH THE RETURN TO SNOWY RIVER!
A 80's classic.
Just the beauty of the snowy mountains and the brumbies were amazing.
Now here we are in 2021 and the government want to cull the grumbles
R.I.P Kirk Douglas
(1916-2020)
The title fits because the boy becomes a man through overcoming trouble !
One of my all time favorite movies ever made

2:20- (As the horse) I told you I don't want to pose for the ending shot to Gone with the Wind! I like Stagecoach better!
He is not a lad he is a man
I came here to see the hat they're all talking about
Does he strike the horses with that awful whip?? The horses are terrified!!
No. It cracks in the air. Animals are not harmed
it's a quite impressive thing watch stock whip cracking. it's simply noise to round up stock animals
.
Australian stockmen cracked the whip in the air. It was the sound used to startle the horses to run in the direction the stockmen wanted.
This is a terrible trailer for a great movie.
It's a bit hokey but I liked it.
